RSS Feeds are the latest in cutting-edge tools for alert webmasters. Globally, consumers are gobbling up this latest trend. The convenience of being able to monitor all of their favorite feeds in one place carries tremendous appeal. Webmasters and marketers find RSS feeds equally as attractive. The instant widespread distribution of content updates becomes a breeze with RSS feeds. Many believe that in the near future, webmasters who don’t utilize this optimal communication tool will be in the minority.

Joe banged the desk next to his keyboard, making his coffee tilt precariously. He was irate to say the least. For the past 15 minutes he’d been browsing websites looking for that tidbit of information he needed to complete his presentation due in 25 minutes. His growls would have intimidated anyone less courageous than the typical mountain lion, but Joe was fed up. To make matters worse, he knew that he’d recently visited a site with the information. His inability to recall which of the thousand sites he’d perused in the last weeks had him boiling.

In the cubicle to the right sat Sally, “always-on-time Sally.” How did she do it? It seemed that everything she looked for was at her fingertips and only a minute or two away. If he weren’t so galled by his inability to find that one lit bit of info, he’d ask her. Of course her eyes would light up, she’d snap her fingers and say, “Oh I know where we can find that!” The thought irked him.

The secret to Sally’s seemingly pristine organization skills…you guessed it - RSS feeds all posted to one page. She had her favorite news feed, her favorite blogs, the latest marketing and computer tech feeds, and even Garfield - her favorite cartoon - all posted to one page. When it came time to look for a tidbit of information, Sally knew right where to go. In fact the last time, she’d had to spend time using search engines was when her cat had fleas, and she wanted to find out which flea shampoo was most effective.

Now, as a webmaster this information is highly valuable. Wouldn’t you love to have direct contact with your consumers on a daily basis? You would no longer be fighting with overzealous spam filters who ate your valuable updates for dessert! Your loyal consumers would never have to search, and be distracted by other appealing adds. Your latest news and products would before their eyes immediately and unhindered.

Okay, so you’ve made life easy for your consumer and found some room for profit in the process. How much do RSS feeds really benefit you? Literally, they will save you a fortune in time and money - not to mention a hefty profit from increased web traffic. Let’s look at a few of the reasons why.

RSS feeds are easily changed and make updating your content so much easier. Not only can you make your loyal customers aware of your updates quickly, your updates will entice the spider to your web (a bit of a different twist, eh?). Literally, search engines are hungry for material that changes often, and will be drawn to your website more often by RSS feeds. This means more exposure, free advertising, more traffic, and more money for you. A pretty good deal!

All right, now you know the secret to making life easier for yourself, and making a lot of extra money to boot. Enjoy, and…uh…you might want to wipe the coffee stains off your desk!

Thomas R. Cutler, spokesperson for the ETO Institute
(www.etoinstitute.org) noted, “The Institute recommends that
manufacturers investigate three levels of technology to help
achieve their business goals. First, point solutions, such as
CAD systems for the engineering department, to improve the
accuracy and speed of engineering functions or
project-management software may be needed to plan and control
projects. Second, manufacturers should consider an integrated
solution that would allow data to flow seamlessly throughout the
organization and give management the timely information it needs
to make informed decisions while improving data accuracy and
eliminating re-keying of data. Finally, the ETO Institute
recommends that manufacturers develop an optimized solution that
would encompass a program of continuous improvement while
removing non-value-added activities, cutting lead times, and
driving waste and cost from the organization.”

Engineer-to-order manufacturers face intense pressures to reduce
costs and shorten cycle times, while maintaining high quality.
The ETO Institute points out that, to stay competitive, domestic
engineer-to-order and project-based manufacturers must turn to
technology to stay competitive. However, their special business
challenges cannot be resolved by traditional,
repetitive-manufacturing solutions.

Successful engineer-to-order manufacturers have developed new
business strategies rather than relying on old business models
that may be better suited to repetitive manufacturing. For
instance, successful engineer-to-order manufacturers do not
compete with commodity machine builders, but rather develop
niche-market expertise that creates product and industry-sector
distinction. Typically, larger, more expensive machines need
more services and support, and generate alternative revenue
streams.

According to the January 2006 issue of the Penton publication
American Machinist, “Engineer-to-order products usually are
complex and, unlike repetitively manufactured products,
customers are involved extensively throughout the design and
manufacturing processes. The steady stream of engineering
changes, and rework that results, makes project planning and
control difficult.”

The best things in life may be free, but the headline above brings into focus a pervasive and invasive trend on the web.

We all know what free means; I shouldn’t have to drag out a dictionary definition to spell it out (no pun intended). It looks like, however, that the generally accepted meaning is being twisted into something that’s not quite free.

Let me explain…

You’re at a website and you find a free e-book you like…you click the link and up pops another annoying box asking you to send a viral email to some of your friends or associates; or…

You want to subscribe to a free ezine, so you click again…but, again another popup box, please send a viral email to your friends; or…

You’re offered a free trial of a piece of software, but before you can get it, there it is again…another box soliciting a viral email to your friends.

So…what’s wrong with all that, you ask?
Let me answer that with a question: When that telemarketer offered you a free trip to Florida, for a week, and all you had to do was listen to a sales pitch for land, what did you do? It’s OK…you don’t have to answer that.

Some take up such an offer, of course, but I’ll bet most don’t. Why? Because it’s not really free! It’s what I call “free…but”.

The point has now been reached, I think, where few “free” offers can be trusted. And, I think it’s about time that marketing pundits particularly took note of the fact that free really does mean free.

Oh…there are no free lunches, you say? Apart from the creation of the cosmos perhaps, you’re right. But, if a seller insists on offering a “free…but” product, that seller should make sure the prospect knows that before the prospect clicks through. What’s so hard about that?

Look, it comes down to this: If a seller wants me to do a sell job, then pay me. Don’t offer me a book, software or whatever “free”, and expect me to blab about a product or offer when I haven’t even read or tried it yet.

Now, if you think I’m wrong, then go ahead…keep doing the other guy’s job and keep running the risk of being accused of SPAM. It’s your website and reputation that’s on the firing line…not mine.

As for me…I don’t buy that type of “free” anymore. It’s getting to be too expensive. ;-)

If you are a teacher or a professor, obviously you will be vexed when one student gives a sneaky yawn in your class. Don’t hastily blame him but think twice about your lecture: may it lack a small fire of passion and creativeness?

If you are a student, you cannot wait to become a Jack Black’s pet in “School of Rock” as you can memorize a mathematical formula by a song and get A mark not because of any force but your true love.

All is about new pedagogy.

No student wants to listen to a rambling speech and many teachers try to add some games, small contests, etc. into the lessons with the hope that their class becomes more vivid. However, this world seems to be not enough without the wise recognition of the new technology’s usage.

Voice changer software (VCS) is one of the modern tools which can perfect your educational audio projects. With the function of a recorder, MP3 player and especially voice changer and voice simulator, VCS can support you to prepare lesson plans. Imagine that in your literature class, you don’t need to finger-point at any student to ask him/her to read an extract of Romeo and Juliet but turn your recorded file on. Your multi-voices in multi-characters will bring an enjoyable feeling to your students as they can live in a real world of Shakespeare and all characters’ accents sound like in the 16th century.

VCS is also a useful teaching aid for any music teacher. With a bit creativeness, you can morph music, edit melody, add effect and so on to make all your students goggle with an interesting mixed CD of their favorites.

The list of those benefits can be much longer, but it is up to your own pedagogy. Simply visit http://www.audio4fun.com or use the phrase “voice changer software” in Google search engine to find more information. You can do all, but remember that your students are future’s seeds, so your educational projects must be from the needs of them.
