You just received an invite from your software company for the “Annual Client Software User Meeting”. Which of the following will you do?

  • Jump for joy and immediately begin making arrangements to attend! You have been waiting for this great opportunity all year long and the excitement generated can hardly be contained!
  • Put the invitation aside. If you have nothing better to do you may go, or you may send someone else from your company that might benefit.
  • Toss it into the “circular file” without opening it. “Those things are a complete waste of time”. What could you possibly gain by attending? You throw it out every year.

There are many different perspectives when it comes to a client software user meeting. Some viewpoints are based upon favorable or non-favorable experiences at past meetings. Others are opinions based upon how “the individual thinks the meeting will be”. Last, you have a group that doesn’t think there is any value in going to a “software meeting” because they are not “technical people”.

Why do people go to these meetings anyway? What is the profile of these “user meeting attendees”? Are they a “technical bunch” that enjoys talking about “software stuff”? Who really can benefit from a software client user meeting?

To find out answers to all of the above, it’s best to attend the next software client user meeting that you are invited to. Each software firm runs its own meeting and has its own style and focus for a user meeting. The common thread is that all software firms run these meetings in order to educate the users of their software. What varies is the style in which the education takes place.

The meeting agenda should provide you with good insight as to what to expect. Typically, software firms gear these meetings at owners/managers of their client companies. The goal is to educate the “top brass” so that appropriate decisions can be made at the top relating to the software used. This also means that the sessions will not be as technical as you might expect.

The goal of every software firm is to produce software that the users will benefit by using long-term. A software solution purchased today can quickly become irrelevant tomorrow. The world changes and software must change too. In order to service the needs of the client, it is important the software firm have some dialogue with its clients. This is important throughout the year, but can be especially meaningful at a client user meeting. A client user meeting takes people away from their busy day to day activities, and allows for thought and discussion amongst people who have a common goal.

Though no one really has time for these meetings, it is an investment that the client and the software firm will make. It has been proven that clients that take advantage of the opportunity, always do better with the software.

Your typical client user meeting will offer a blend of a few of the following components:

  • new product introduction
  • existing product enhancements
  • education on how to use current products
  • speakers offering insight on general business issues such as marketing, industry topics of interest, and management/financial
  • roundtable discussions among users
  • workshops
  • food and good company.

“Hobnobbing” with other folk who use the same software can be extremely valuable. Information sharing, networking and building relationships with others users can offer great insight and improve the way you work with the software.

A software user meeting allows you to work with the software firm at a different level. You’re giving advice and in a sense becoming part of the development team. This allows you to protect your investment by getting more of what you need and want. Your industry changes and you have to explain to the software firm what you want so that they can give it to you in the form of new products and enhancements.

Most meetings offer learning sessions to improve your use of the features that you have. Users walk away from meetings almost in disbelief that they have some wonderful features that they didn’t realize they had. More than likely it was covered in training, but with so much to absorb, who can remember all of the tools and whistles and bells that are built into a comprehensive and extensive software suite.

It’s a great opportunity to meet the voice over the phone that services you. It’s also exciting to be one of the first to see new enhancements that will soon be released. It’s possible you will have learned about some dynamic new ways that your firm can be using the software to increase sales and marketing, service clients and employees better or expand your business. People always walk away from a client meeting richer than when they came.

So, the next time you receive an invitation to a client software user meeting, what are you going to do with it?

There is a new little scam going on, and it relates to link exchange requests.

It goes like this:

You get a request from somebody to exchange a link with their site and they offer in return a link to your site. But the catch is that the link they offer is actually one of your old links they found on another site you’ve exchanged links some time ago! So basically they are offering you a “useless exchange” for nothing in back as your link has been posted before by the True owner of the site.

Let me give you an example: 2 days ago I got a submission to my Craft site to put a link to a poker software site! Although I Specifically state I only except links from Industry Related sites it didn’t deter this retarded person to submit his/her request - which raised the first flag right away. Then of course the person entered a total nonsense instead of the name on the submission form.

And when I checked the supposed link-back, I found out it is one of the links I’ve exchanged with the owner of that site long time ago. How do I know it was not a “new” link? The description of that link was long time not accurate as I have changed it since, even the number in it was not accurate as I increased the commission I offer my affiliates to 60% instead of the 40% like those years ago…

Then yesterday I got another submission to the same site again from the same scamster, again pointing to another of my old links on the site I also exchanged links some time ago. When I’ve contacted the owner of the supposed link exchange request he was very surprised as he never did that new submission.

But wait:

Today the same person was brazen enough to send me a request to another of my sites and as a “link back” even stated my own Article I wrote long time ago and has been posted in one of the article directories! Can you believe that nerve?

In case you are wondering all the submissions came from the domain name @zettwalls.com, so pay a close attention if you get a submission from this domain name.

However since I doubt I was the first one this shameless scamster tried to trick, and obviously it had to work for him/her before, I’d recommend check those Link Exchange
requests, and if you Do link exchanges check the site of the submitter and also the link-back they are offering.

Homeland Security - Protecting our Borders and Ports through
Biometric, RFID, Sensor and Surveillance Technology

Homeland Security Focused on Addressing Illegal Immigration and
Terrorism through Stronger Borders and Ports

By Ann-Marie Fleming, www.BorderandPortSecurity.com ,
www.HomelandDefenseStocks.com November 2005

Securing our ports and borders has become a major focus of
Homeland Security, in particular since the events of 9/11.
President Bush has made addressing problems with illegal
immigration, terrorist activities, and illegal smuggling of
weapons and drugs a high level priority of border and port
security. In October, the President signed the Department of
Homeland Security Appropriations Act for 2006, which allocates
$30.8 billion in discretionary funding for the 2006 fiscal year.
The bill apportions $7.5 billion towards illegal immigration and
gives $139 million towards the improvement of border technology
and intelligence capabilities to include cameras and sensors
among others.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff stated before the
US. Senate Judiciary Committee, “President Bush has placed
ever-increasing importance on border security and has devoted
significant resources to this challenge. The President believes
- and I agree - that illegal immigration threatens our
communities and our national security. The ability of
undocumented individuals to enter our country represents an
obvious homeland security threat. Flagrant violation of our
borders undercuts the rule of law, undermines our security, and
imposes particular economic strains on our border communities.
When we do not control our borders, we also risk entry into the
U.S. of terrorists or others wishing to do us harm.”

RFID Biometric Convergence:

A key initiative towards the achievement of secure borders and
ports to ensure the facilitation of lawful travel and trade, an
accurate immigration system and the overall protection of
visitors and citizens is the U.S. Visit program. Under this
program, foreign visitors are required to have their index
fingers scanned as well as a digital photograph taken for travel
document identification matching purposes. According to the
Department of Homeland Security (DHS), US-VISIT entry procedures
are currently in place at 115 airports, 15 seaports and in the
secondary inspection areas of the 50 busiest land ports of
entry. Exit procedures are operating at 12 airports and two
seaports with procedures to be deployed to the remaining land
ports of entry by December 31, 2005.

Under the Visa Waiver Program, 27 nation’s such as Australia,
Austria, Norway, Belgium, Japan, the United Kingdom, France,
Germany and many more countries, had to meet a congressional
mandate that required, as a first stage in the multi-stage
border and port security strategy, for passports to have the
digital photographs in passports by October 26, 2005. The next
step according to DHS is a policy requiring these countries to
produce ‘e-passports’, which entails an RFID chip that can store
biographic information, a digital photograph and other biometric
details to be integrated into passports by October 26, 2006.

This technology, under the U.S. Visit Program, allows for faster
and more secure identification of illegal activity, and provides
for more efficient border and port travel for visitors to the
United States, while increasing the ability to share information
among federal, state, local and foreign agencies.

Homeland security technology expert Brian Ruttenbur, Equity
Research Analyst, Morgan Keegan & Co. explains, “What really
pushes countries and government officials to move are mandates
with deadlines and funding attached to those. The US Visit has
really pushed that along in enforcing the requirements set forth
in the program in terms of biometric authentication, and
governments have found the funding for those types of issues.”

Sense Holdings, a provider of biometric and micro-sensor
identification systems that target the homeland security market,
sees the convergence of RFID and biometric technology as an
effective security solution. The Company’s CEO, Dore Perler
explains, “The use of RFID and biometric technologies is almost
a perfect fit in the development of an easy to use intuitive
security system. As a layered approach, the RFID requires little
or no action from the end user, leaving only the biometric
component. Essentially this doubles the security of the system
without requiring any additional effort from the end user.
Incorporating multiple RFID triggers facilities notification to
the end user that they are not authorized prior to using the
biometric or approaching the system terminal, thus minimizing
the wear and tear on the biometric while correspondingly
allowing the process to proceed faster for those authorized.”

Domestic and International Opportunity:

“The biometric side of the business is going to grow extremely
fast all because of the enhanced border and visa security act
that was passed in 2002 by Congress, which is forcing every
country in the entire world to go with biometric sensors and
biometric travel documents. I see the EU Visitor Information
System and UK e-borders spurring into multiple programs and
there is going to be biometrics on every travel documents in
five to ten years down the road and that’s going to be National
ID Cards, Visas, and Passports all with biometrics. The U.S.
will be one of the last nations of the first world countries, to
adopt a biometrics national id card,” describes Ruttenbur.

Two key the goals for the integration of biometric and RFID
technology in terms of border and port security entails both
accuracy as well as efficiency to help facilitate faster border
crossing with an increased level of security. “The competitive
advantage of implementing a technology based solution, such as
RFID, biometrics, or a combination, comes not from the
technology itself, but from the improvements to business
processes that would be impossible without the devices. We are
very excited about the future of RFID integration with
biometrics and as a stand alone technology. Issues that have
plagued industry are now able to be resolved with the
incorporation of wireless LANs, RFID, and biometrics. Sense is
positioning itself and developing new product lines to address
these long time burdens,” states Perler.

Surveillance Systems:

The tragic events that took place in London with the bombings
within a major transit system have placed a growing sense of
urgency on the need for effective surveillance technology. As
Ruttenbur discusses, “I think that the next step to see across
the borders will be camera systems getting rolled out. We have
seen a number of announcements from the New York Transit
Authority, the New Jersey Transit authority that they are
starting to implement camera systems that monitor the platforms,
trains, buses etc.”

According to Corby Lawrence, Director of Business Development
for SYColeman, a division of L-3 Communications, “The roll-out
of such camera systems must be planned, built, and implemented
with a major focus on real-world operational effectiveness.
Simply installing huge volumes of cameras and sensors and
displaying the information on dozens of CCTVs exceeds the human
capacity to detect threat activities within an area of concern.”

L-3 Communications has addressed this global problem with its
PRAETORIAN surveillance software. Created by Sarnoff
Laboratories and recently purchased and commercialized by L-3,
PRAETORIAN is the industry’s only surveillance system capable of
integrating multiple cameras and sensors into a single, 3D
“game-like” display, permitting fly-through abilities. “With
PRAETORIAN, operators can finally have full situational
awareness, even in complex security environments such as borders
and ports,” stated Lawrence.

As the war on terrorism across the globe expands, and public and
private “homeland security” and related funding increases, the
demand for surveillance is anticipated to continue its growth.
Law Enforcement Associates (LEA) is working to take advantage of
the intensified need for surveillance technology through the
Company’s Under Vehicle Inspection System. As described by the
Company, the Under Vehicle Inspection System views the underside
of vehicles entering and exiting secure areas/facilities for
explosive devices and contraband. It is deployed on military
bases, oil refineries, ports, United Nations and NATO Locations,
embassies, nuclear facilities, and government installations.
Paul Feldman, LEA’s CEO, reveals, “Providing the needed security
at border entry points and ports is a very tasking job. Our
borders are vast and are difficult to fully monitor. The amount
of freight that comes into our seaports is staggering. LEA has
proven that their security products can play be an important
part of the “overall security” plan to help in border and port
security.”

Sensor Technology:

The focus on sensor technology with applications in border and
port security is increasing. Ruttenbur anticipates growth in
sensor programs for cargo screening, which are just starting to
emerge, as well as rollouts in the next several months for
additional sensor programs that entail body scanners first in
airports, then in other locations.

Sense Holdings is currently developing explosives sensor
technology based on Micro Electro-Mechanical Sensors (MEMS) with
plans on integrating this technology with biometric
identification. “As the needs for Homeland Security escalate and
become more complicated, there is a growing demand for
innovative detection technology to ensure and enable security on
a variety of levels. Along with developing technology that can
accurately identify explosives and harmful material, the use of
this technology must also be secured. The integration of
biometric identification with effective explosives detection
ensures that the activities are monitored, tracked and that the
technology is only being used by authorized personnel, while at
the same time helping to facilitate secure communication of
sensor activity,” describes Perler.

Law Enforcement Associates has entered the detection market with
their explosives detection kit, the EDK123, which according to
the Company provides a fast, reliable field test for detection
of trace nitrates that are found in 85% of all explosives,
including TNT, Dynamite, Sentex, RDX and ammonium nitrates. It
is currently being used by our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Global Security:

As the United States works towards an actionable security plan
to protect our borders and ports, it is becoming clear that
homeland security is more accurately defined as Global Security.
With the continuation of worldwide terrorist activity, it is
clear that security can no longer be understood and evaluated in
a domestic context alone. With a global perspective on security
and the potential threats that we face, innovative and effective
technology can be more clearly identified to address the needs
for securing travel and trade. This quest points towards an
industry that will continue to grow; one that will be here for
the long run as it continues to evolve to meet the diverse
challenges that global security demands.

You would like to have artworks of your own, perhaps start an art collection, or buy a special art gift. How do you start?

First, second and last: look! Go to galleries and museums, (even if at first they seem cold or intimidating, they are there to be seen), art fairs and shows. The Internet has become a great place to explore and buy contemporary art and has its own special advantages: comfortable to see, easy on the gas bill, no pressure, easy to purchase, easy access to information.

Don’t buy right away. Take time to develop your eye and know your heart. Come back to the same place or site many times, each time picking your favorite. You will probably see that this changes over time, and that you notice more and more interesting aspects of the artwork. Ultimately, what you like best always includes an element of mystery that can’t be totally explained. That makes buying art different from buying anything else. But whether for an investment or purely for pleasure, experience in looking and information about the artwork and artist can inform your decision.

Your opinion is what matters, not that of a salesperson or a critic. Even so, reading about art can sharpen your opinions and accustom you to the special vocabulary of art: tools for enjoying art more.

When you’re ready to buy, think why.For a specific place in your home? To “capture” something beautiful? For the positive emotional experience, spiritual uplift, intellectual stimulation? For an investment? All of these separately or in any combination as well as other reasons are good reasons to acquire an artwork. In doing so, you also contribute to society by supporting artists who access and enhance our culture. Clarifying your goals will help you choose the right artwork at the right time.

Budget and Prices. When you have educated your eye and taken an interest in what you see; when you are ready to find the artwork for you, you must consider how much you want to spend and how works of art are priced. Price is somewhat subjective, as is what you will like. It is difficult for most artists to set a monetary value on an expression from their heart. An artist may ask a lot for a favorite piece, being reluctant to part with it. Another may lower prices because of a need for cash. The price of most works, however, is indeed connected to objective variables:

Medium. The graphic media: sketches and prints are usually less expensive, as is watercolor on paper. You can, therefore usually find good buys of fine art in these media. In general, oils on canvas will be more expensive, as will sculpture. Photography in recent years has been going up in price, but is still a place where beginning collectors can find wonderful art for reasonable prices.

Work involved. The amount of work put into a piece, connected to medium, can be a factor—more work being more expensive, but not always. More time spent on a work of art does not necessarily make it better. A sketch that Rembrandt did in minutes can be worth a fortune!

Size. In general, the larger, the more expensive (large works involve more materials, although this is usually a small part of the cost, but they are more difficult and involve more work.) Miniatures are a category of their own, where the artist makes a “window” to a tiny other world.

The Artist.Younger and less well-known artists will generally charge less. This is the point at which the sharp-eyed buyer who knows what he/she likes loves to buy. Here are opportunities for good long-term investments, as well as encouraging upcoming creative forces.

The Market. Site and gallery managers will guide the artist in determining value by knowing the present market.

Don’t forget that in your final decision, what is most important is your own response to a work of art. Without a doubt, art is a whole world waiting to enhance your home and enrich your life. Enjoy the variety of choice and the very unique pleasure of finding your own special artistic creations.

Buying art is different from acquiring other products. When you buy something that you like very much, you will usually find yourself loving it more and more. A complex and mature work of art reveals many layers of meaning and appeal as time goes by. You are enriching your life and shaping your environment. Enjoy!

Beverly and Chris were married for 7 years. Chris was a recovering alcoholic and drug addict who had been clean and sober for several years before he met Beverly. Beverly was a successful professional, and Chris was a hard-worker in a blue collar job. After several years, Beverly suggested that the couple start a business of their own. They decided to invest in rental properties which they hoped would help grow their savings and allow them to travel and enjoy life more. They got a second mortgage on their home and bought several fixer-uppers in the same town where Chris worked. Things did not go as smoothly as expected, but they kept working on it and trying to deal with the stresses of a new business together.

After about a year, Beverly came home to find Chris crying and upset. She asked him what was wrong and he said he had to move out and “see what he wanted in life”. Beverly was caught totally off guard and was devastated, but had no choice but to let him go. He left immediately and, in a week, came back to pack up his personal belongings. He told Bev he was staying with friends.

In the meantime, Bev worked the business on her own. About a month after Chris left, Beverly received a call from the bank that her business account was overdrawn. After meeting with the bank, she discovered that Chris had been funneling money out of their business account for some months before he left. When Beverly finally reached him, he minimized the theft, but said that he would reimburse the account. A couple of weeks later, Bev found out from friends that Chris was seeing another woman, someone he had mentioned as a new acquaintance at work. After two small checks, Chris stopped paying Beverly back.

Can This Relationship Be Saved?

There is not much hope for this relationship. Chris has a history of addictive behavior. While he had been clean and sober for some time before he married Bev, he is fragile to reacting to stress with a relapse. Obviously, Chris had been secretive about his feelings for some time. By the time he decided to talk to Bev about it, he was ready to leave. Not talking and keeping secrets is definitely a red flag.

It looks as if Bev was the codependent in this relationship
because she was the one who made the suggestion to start the business. Reading between the lines, she takes the lead in “helping” Chris by trying to make him into an entrepeneur. She married a blue collar worker and then wasn’t accepting of the limitations that might mean in terms of their lifestyle.

When the business started to flag, Chris wasn’t equipped to deal with it in a direct way with his wife. Instead, he started seeing another woman and lying to Bev about it. Alcoholics
are extremely adept at rationalizing destructive behavior.

I’m not sure how Chris was justifying betraying his wife, but by the time he began to steal money from her, there is a very strong chance he had started drinking, drugging, or gambling. This was the point where he was in in a complete relapse, and it was only a matter of time before he would be found out. Chris bailed out with more lies before he had to face that consequence.

The negative prognosis for the marriage is cemented by the fact that, even after he was found out, Chris made no attempt to be honest, apologize, or take responsibility for his actions. He resorted to addictive behaviors like rationalization, minimizing, and more lies. Bev should move on and deal with her own issues around this marriage. Let Chris continue
to run the course of his relapse. Hopefully, he will get back into recovery before he hurts anyone else.

A postscript for Beverly: She can take steps to stay out of the codependency role by being completely honest about Chris’s behavior to family and friends. To do otherwise would be a continuation of caretaking, “protecting” Chris from having to face the consequences of his actions. By the same token, Beverly will be extremely vulnerable to Chris’s “charming”
side should he try to reconcile with her. Chances are also strong that he will attempt a reconciliation because addicts are very attached to their codependent partners.

Another postscript: I don’t want to give the impression that recovering addicts are bad partners. Recovering addicts who are actively working a program can be very good partners because they have been forced to look at themselves closely, are used to talking about and listening to feelings (in group meetings) and can be insightful about behaviors and motivation.

In the movie “Forest Gump” we see Forest succeed
in just about every aspect of his life. What we
admire most about him is his ability to overcome
physical obstacles all throughout his life. But
what we didn’t see is Forest had much more going
for him than just being naive and gutsy. We first
see this in a scene where he is a child with
braces on his legs. His best friend Jennie and him
are walking home one day and some boys are picking
on Forest and throwing rocks at him. Jennie yells
out, “RUN FOREST RUN”, so what did Forest do? He
ran, and ran and ran. He ran so much and so hard
that his braces broke from his legs and he never
had to wear them again.

A real close friend said to me recently, “Drawing
closer to God and having a relationship with him
is like running a race. You focus on the cross and
you run, run and run. And on occasion you look to
your side and see who is running along side you.
It may be a friend, it may be a family member, or
an accountability partner, or your spouse,
girlfriend. But if you notice competitive runners
they don’t look back and wait for their
competitors to be along side them. They stay
focused on the course ahead. In the end, Forest
Gump lived every experience with Jennie right by
his side. While she wasn’t there physically all
the time, she was there in spirit; loving,
inspiring, and encouraging him to run his race
that only he could run.

So it is with God, the bible says in Hebrews 12:1,
“Therefore since we are surrounded by such a huge
crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us
strip off every weight that slows us down,
especially the sin that hinders our progress. And
let us run with endurance the race that God has
set before us. (NLT)

Yes, we want our loved ones to come along and yes
if we are single we want a mate, yet the funny
thing is this. When we take the attitude God wants
us to take and focus on the cross, you may be
surprised one day just like forest was when he
looked to his side and saw all his hippie friends
running along side him across country, that
someone that God wants in your life will be right
there with you running the race.

Run a race this week! Focus on the fact that Jesus
gave his life for us on the cross. Crank up the
intensity, sign up for a building U course, take
an ABF class, and invite someone to your house for
fellowship.

Whatever it takes, RUN, RUN, AND RUN TO THE CROSS
THIS WEEK.

Buying a new home is an exciting and tiring ordeal. However, the
thrill of moving into a new home can often overshadow the
frustration that comes with searching, negotiating, and being
out bided. The home buying process is very lengthy. Thus, you
should be prepared to devote a lot of time and energy to making
your dream a reality. Here are a few tips to help smooth the
home buying process.

Fix Credit Blemishes and Errors

Credit reports are critical to the home buying process. Sadly,
many young adults and first time homebuyers minimize the
importance of maintaining a good or fair credit rating. Although
various mortgage programs exist to help bad credit applicants
get approved for a home loan, these loans have higher interest
rates. To ensure a low rate mortgage, which will also lower your
mortgage payments, improve your credit rating.

If your credit score is at least 680, lenders consider you a
prime candidate. As a prime candidate, you qualify for a low
rate mortgage. On the other hand, those with credit scores below
600 can expect considerably higher rates.

Before applying for a home loan, check your own credit score. If
your score needs a little improvement, delay purchasing a home
for at least six months and raise your rating.

Choosing an Affordable Home

Naturally, pricier homes are more appealing. However, if buying
a new home, realistically determine what type of home will fit
into your budget. Many mistakenly purchase expensive homes, and
can barely afford the payments. Avoid becoming “house broke.”
Ideally, mortgage payments should be no higher than 36% of our
total monthly income. This way, you can comfortably pay your
mortgage and care for other household expenses.

Get a Lower Interest Rate with a Down Payment

Although down payments are not mandatory when purchasing a home,
they will help you secure a low rate mortgage. Moreover, with a

The ability to perform naturally and instinctively is critical to performing well. The reason why you practice is so you can trust your game when it’s time to play. As you progress through the stages of learning, with practice you develop a memory program for each movement. With more practice (or over-learning), your performance becomes instinctive, natural, and starts to feel effortless. The feeling of automatic and effortless movement is essential for superior performance for all skill levels. The problem starts when you don’t allow your natural ability to surface when you perform. If you focus too much on technique or control the path of the bat, club, and racquet, you will lock yourself up and feel uncoordinated.

In pressure situations, the tendency is to tighten up and not trust yourself. Focusing too much on how to make a good swing for example makes you guide the bat, club, or racquet and consciously force it. All this does are mess up a well-grooved swing (through repetition) and throws off your natural rhythm. The purpose of practice and repetition is to make it feel reflexive when you perform in competition. When you play, let your instincts built on practice take over.

Some players can trust their ability better than others. Trusting your ability means forgetting about the HOW TO perform a motor skill and reacting to your environment. During competition, you need to let your creative mind take over. When the whistle blows, it’s time to trust your practice and play be feel. If you think too much about how to perform, such as trying to make a perfect stroke during a free throw, you will lock up and ruin your chances at making it. React to the target and allow your body do what it knows how to do. I call this performing from the input through the eyes and sensory system and skipping all the analysis and trying that interferes with the automatic process.
