Have you seen Michael Moore’s movie Fahrenheit 9/11? The
fantastic lesson in this movie, as I see it, is the opportunity
to see how many ways you can write history while an element of
truth is still present in each story and point of view. For
example, after watching this film, I can easily say how much of
a dope President Bush is, yet if someone who liked the President
would make a film, the story would be completely different.
Selective use of “information” is what creates the story either
way. It is important to keep this in mind because this is the
same method we use to create the story of our lives!

President Bush may have gone to that elementary school the day
the bombing occurred, but did he really sit in there like that?
Where did that clip come from and who filmed it? Is that really
the bigger picture of what happened? Who knows? I certainly
don’t. He is sharing a piece of information which may be truth,
but the context is gone. Even if we could have been there to
actually see what happened in the classroom itself, would there
be agreement amongst us as to what “really” happened? I think
not!

I imagine us all as computer programs that are constantly in the
process of qualifying, analyzing, pigeonholing, and assessing
everything we perceive with our senses. The mind is a wonderful
gift of being human, yet we do not put this gift in the “proper”
context. Just because we run something we perceive through our
mind/computer doesn’t mean the conclusion the program comes to
is the truth. The conclusion is simply the result the multiple
permutations the program goes through based on learned formulas.
In other words all the stuff you “know” and what you believe you
have experienced (from your point of view of course) is
qualifying what you are currently seeing and experiencing in
every moment! How can the conclusions of a slanted computer be
accurate? It simply cannot.

Based on this, I recognize that everything I perceive and run
through my program is no longer the truth. It is truth from my
point of view of course, but not “the truth.” By “the truth” I
mean simply “what is,” without the world of concepts
superimposed upon it. Once you put concepts upon the “what is”
you distort it and make it into something else - a story. Of
course, the cleaner the information in your program is the
easier it will be to move through your life seeing what is,
rather than seeing what you want to see! I am guessing right
about now that you are wondering how you can possibly walk
through the world without your mind telling you what’s going on,
but you can do it!

If you can practice just seeing, without the judgment and
commentary from your mind (better known as thinking), you will
find that you must use your feelings and heart to interact with
the world. The trick to doing this is having total detachment
from the mind; otherwise you will feel all kinds of emotions
based on what is in your subconscious mind even if you “think”
you’re not thinking! To gain clarity about your life, it’s
necessary to see all points of view for what they are. Detach
from all the concepts and agreements you’ve made about
everything in your story or anyone else’s story. Go ahead - take
a chance and experiment with perceiving life from a different
point of view!

The basic attraction of a mobile phone is the concept of staying connected with family, friends and acquaintances, even when a person is on the move. People love interacting with their social circle of friends and family, and a new generation of mobile phone games, that enable users to do just that, would no doubt prove to be popular. The interactive mobile phone games are thus expected to become a welcome addition to the fold of already popular mobile phone games and Java games for mobile phone in a multitude of categories.

The mobile telecommunication sector is booming with activity. A lot of work is being carried out to design and develop mobile phone handsets that have advanced capabilities to support a host of mobile phone games and mobile Java games as well. As a matter of fact, the latest models of mobile phone handsets are empowered by third generation and Blue tooth technologies to provide a lot of user friendly features to a general mobile phone user. Many of these features could be utilized in devising games with interesting formats and intuitive layouts. And developers of mobile phone games and Java games for mobile phones are doing just that. They are taking advantage of the large number of advanced features of some of the best handsets and designing games that are a treat to an enthusiast of mobile gaming.

There are two aspects of interactive mobile phone games. For one, such games enable a user to develop a unique relationship with their handset. Special categories of such games would for instance have an animated character that the gamer would care for. Or maybe certain games would involve the building of a castle or building that the gamers would take care of. The amount of time that players of these mobile phone games would spend on decorating their castles and the quality of the same would decide the points that they would be getting. This would lead to a greater level of association between users and their handsets.

Secondly, many of the mobile phone games and Java games for mobile phones help people in establishing their social links more firmly with their immediate family, office colleagues and other acquaintances. A large section of mobile phone users do not give that much importance to graphics, the social interaction that is possible through different types of mobile phone games, is what appeals to them. They could, for instance, establish a connection with each other by joining gaming leagues in mobile phone games and mobile Java games. What happens in these leagues is that a large number of people playing mobile phone games sign up; although they play by themselves, they get to know their overall social ranking, which in turn motivates them to play better.

Mobile phone games that appeal to the basic “social” nature of humans can in no way be ignored. We can conclude by saying that interactive mobile phone games and Java games for mobile phones are here to stay for a long time to come. Developers of mobile phone games are taking special care in devising games that conform to these characteristics and are looking at the revenue earning potentials of this specialized category of mobile phone games or mobile Java games with a lot of hope and enthusiasm.

Every time I give a talk about life transition, someone invariably calls to say, “I believe happiness is inside us. If you can’t be happy here, you can’t be happy anywhere.”

I have to resist the temptation to shout, “Aaargh!”

We all know people who never seem to be happy. They move from one town to another. Maybe they keep changing jobs. It’s tempting to say something like, “People your age always have trouble when they move to a new community.” Or, “Very few people enjoy their jobs — get used to it!”

Both of those statements are true. However, some people really will be happier in New York City than in a small town in Iowa, and vice versa. Some people have managed to choose a career that clashes with their personalities, talents and needs. When they move, they’re happier almost immediately.

But don’t be too quick to tell yourself (or your friend), “So, move already! Stop complaining!”

If you’ve had several unhappy moves, identify the underlying cause. You may simply be a restless person who needs a career and lifestyle that offers variety. You may be an outgoing, lively person, in a career or town that rewards quiet, reserved communication styles. You may be a morning person in a world that demands staying awake past midnight and sleeping till noon.

At the first sign of discontent, begin some reality-testing. Ask at least six people (the Goodwin Rule of Six) how they feel. Word your questions carefully: “I love it here. What do you think?” Newcomers can find themselves labeled M for “malcontent,” even when they ask the most innocent questions.

You may need only a quick fix. I’ve seen people blossom when they transfer to a new department or move six blocks away. But you may have identified a deeper discontent.

Once you’ve identified the source, find a friend you trust. Tell that friend, “If I tell you I’m tempted to move again, remind me why I was miserable here.”

Most friends — along with many professional advisors — are reluctant to become wet blankets who smother your dreams. Yet if you’re trying to avoid repeating a mistake, a large bucket of ice water may save you from drowning when you dive into your next pond.

If you have been considering making the switch from cable to satellite TV then chances are you have seen or heard of the satellite company Dish Network. It can be overwhelming with all the different ads and sales pitches you see online, on TV and also hear about from friends and family. The purpose of this article is to educate you on Dish Network – who they are, why you should choose them for your satellite provider and more! Continue reading below to find out more about Dish Network:

Dish Network is a direct broadcast satellite (DBS) service that broadcasts satellite television and audio to households in the U.S. Dish Network is owned by Echostar and was first launched back in March of 1996. Dish Network is DirecTV’s number one rival and primary competitor within the U.S. for satellite programming.

In 1996 when Dish Network was originally created they used an 18-ince satellite dish called Dish 300 that allowed satellite subscribers to receive a satellite signal from one satellite location. Currently, Dish Network employs 20-inch satellite dishes called the Dish 500. The Dish 500 allows satellite subscribers to receive satellite signals from two different satellite locations simultaneously.

Most recently, a slightly larger satellite dish (36-inchesx20-inches) referred to as “Super Dish) are being introduced to the satellite market with the capacity to receive satellite signals from three different satellite locations simultaneously. Both the Dish 500 and the Super Dish are dominating the satellite industry as Dish Network is attempting to allow more programming on their expanding satellite systems. This is particularly popular through local, national American television networks and foreign programming.

In 1992, Falun Gong also known as Falun Dafa, an ancient holistic practice was introduced to the public of China. Falun Dafa teaches one to be more truthful with our thoughts and feelings, to be more kind and compassionate to others, and more tolerant and rational in daily life which helps one to endure the hardships of life.

The practice also consists of five gentle yet very powerful exercises that help one to improve health. Holistically, Falun Dafa improves mind, body and spirit. The teacher, Mr. Li Hongzhi, was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize three times, and presented numberous honours worldwide.

Falun Dafa spread rapidly to more than one hundred million people in just a few years. Falun Gong activities are always free. The books and exercise video can be downloaded free from the internet or ordered through major book stores.

Falun Gong is practiced in sixty countries around the world, but has been persecuted in China since 1999. To find a local contact and for more information www.falundafa.org

I have been practicing Falun Dafa for only one and a half years. Falun Dafa has taught me to be a better person in my relationships and daily life. The exercises have helped me to become more healthy, relieve stress and have more energy. Falun Dafa is the most complete holistic practice that I’ve come across. This awesome practice answers all the questions about life, and our relationship with the universe.

Just stress testing one of the latest Linux distributions. Been testing it for about two months. You know, Linux has advanced some distance since 1992-1993. It looks great! Because Linux is customizable, I decided to change a few of the resident commands. These were not wholesale changes and everything worked out o.k. So I started thinking again. You know, that can lead to solutions you can’t get out of. In this instance, everything worked like a trusty timepiece.

Why customize it? It’s much easier to navigate all of the menus within KDE or Gnome. Set-up most commands with my personal, seven set-ups. With seven set-ups, my self scribed moniker for the upgrade; most applications are accessible with no more than seven key combinations. Open a file? Ctrl-Alt-A. If you want to search inside a sub file, just click, Ctrl-Alt-A, Ctrl-Alt-B.
This might look a little complicated. After you learn the several key combinations, it’s a snap. Forget the mouse, unless you’re designing high dollar graphics. Maybe something like this could give KDE, Gnome desktops that something extra.

Another something. If you’re developing the next generation platform, why not develop the programs/applications on older machines? This goes against conventional thought, but it works. Anything that runs at decent speeds on older machines, fast streams on newer chipsets. Be sure to keep that a secret! Now, who stole my keys?

1. You’re browsing the web. You don’t use tabs. You’re not the multitask, new generation, modern teen. And for some unexplained reason, your powerful, macho, new computer is lagging. You’re not playing. No downloads. Is it sick? Maybe it had unsafe sex with a freeware, file sharing software and got infected with spyware…

2. What are the symptoms? High CPU activity, disk usage, and network traffic not justified by the user’s activity. Frequent stability, application and internet connection issues. Does your computer suffer from any of these symptoms?

3. What is adware? What is spyware? Adware is software that displays advertisement on your pc. Spyware is software that sends information from your pc to a third party without your knowledge and explicit consent.

4. How does adware and spyware get installed into your computer?

(a) Have you ever browsed a website and a windows dialog box pops up asking you a question? Have you ever clicked the cancel button? Well that’s how someone can trick you into installing adware and spyware into your computer. (b) Have you ever downloaded freeware? Marketing companies pay freeware software authors to include adware and spyware in their freeware software. So when you install freeware software, you’re probably installing adware and spyware.

5. What can adware and spyware do to harm you? Adware just displays advertisement on your pc. Most adware software is also spyware software. Beside dispaying advertisement, it tracks your browsing habits and sends that data to a marketing company, so that the marketing company can display targeted ads on your computer, based on your tracked consumer activity. But it can also send your username, passwords, credit card information and other sensitive data to a third party…

6. How can I prevent installing or remove adware and spyware?

(a) Install Anti-Spyware software. Ad-ware from Lavasoft and Spybot are great tools. They remove spyware and prevent spyware from installing on your computer. Google these keywords, download the free versions of these programs and always update them.

(b) Make sure that the freeware and shareware software you install does not include adware and spyware. Read the license agreement carefully. Search Google Groups for the name of the program plus the keywords adware and spyware.

(c) Install a pop-up blocker

Who needs all this protection anyway? The answer is everyone,
well at least everyone who connects to the internet. Lets face
it, there are a lot of nasty people out to spoil your day by
infecting your computer with a virus or worse retrieving all of
your personal information and even stealing your identity. To
avoid this, like most people you will go out and buy the best
firewall, spy-ware and anti-virus software you can find, it’s
not cheap, but you don’t care so long as your protected. You
will pay to be protected because you have no choice, or do you?
What a lot of people don’t realize is that there are many good
down loadable free software programs on the internet that rival
there expensive counterparts. You don’t have to spend a lot of
money to be protected as a matter of fact you don’t have to
spend any money at all, because these programs are totally free.
May I suggest the following four freeware programs, they are
easy to use and give excellent protection against hackers and
viruses.

Avast Home Edition is a complete anti-virus package, that is
free for registered home non-commercial users. It contains an
on-demand scanner with two interfaces (simple for novices and
advanced for experienced users), an on-access scanner with
Standard Shield (which protects against execution and opening
malware programs) and an embedded e-mail scanner which scans
incoming and outgoing email messages. avast! Home integrates
with the Windows Explorer right click menu and also includes a
special screen saver which is able to scan your system while
your computer is not in use.

Spyware Blaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware,
but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It
achieves this by disabling the CLSIDs of popular spyware ActiveX
controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via
a webpage.

AdAware is a privacy tool, that scans your memory, registry,
hard, removable and optical drives for known data-mining,
aggressive advertising, and tracking components. It then lists
the results and offers to remove or quarantine the components.
The program detects a wide range of adware/spyware related
issues and can be updated with the latest signatures via the
built-in update utility.

Sygate Personal Firewall is more than an advanced, user-friendly
personal firewall — it is a bi-directional intrusion defense
system. Sygate Personal Firewall ensures your personal computer
is completely protected from malicious hackers and other
intruders while preventing unauthorized access from your
computer to a network. In essence, Sygate Personal Firewall
makes your protected machines invisible to the outside world.

I use all of these programs on my own personal computer and have
found that they give excellent protection against hackers and
viruses and are as good or exceed any software out there
regardless of price. To learn more about and to download any or
all of these free programs for your own personal use go to

I’m in software development for 15 years and I can tell you one thing for sure: misunderstandings are costly in software development. If you are not careful, you could find yourself aiming at the moving target or even end up building the application nobody needs or wants. I’ll show you how to properly apply screen prototypes and avoid this trap, while having fun in the process.

There are many tools commonly used for software prototypes and GUI prototyping. Over time I have used most of them and what I have found is that they all lack in two things: speed and ease of use of paper sketches (which you can’t maintain, so they are not really a solution either). Now with Mockup Screens I’m satisfied with both, and I can focus on the real problem: to quickly engineer clear requirements for a software application.

Note that Mockup Screens is very capable of solving whole category of tasks quickly and efficiently. You can use it (and many do) quite differently than I’ll explain here, just experiment with screen prototypes and find what works for you.

1. Recognize Scenarios To Build A Wireframe for Requirements

Think what the users want from your application. Choose and create scenarios that people will use most often. Don’t aim for perfection, right now prototypes are more important things to do. Try to work together with your customer. If this works out fine, continue teamed up this way: it’s very effective. More probable though, you’ll have difficulties so don’t push further - involve the customer where it counts the most, with screen prototypes you’ll propose later.

2. Sketch Screen Prototypes For Important Scenarios

Decide which is the most important scenario and sketch screens for it. Imagine these are paper sketches and focus on speed, not on design or perfection. Populate screens with data that will provoke reaction. Remember what Wikipedia says on software prototyping: “[Prototyping] is not a tool to prove that we are right. It is a tool to show us where we are wrong.”

Repeat this for the next most important scenario and the next one. Copy screens from existing templates or finished scenarios wherever you can. Choose two or three scenarios you want to discuss with the customer. Don’t decide on too many or you’ll get poor feedback.

Before the workshop, skim through scenarios yourself, they are your prototype. Put marks and comments where you have questions or want to emphasize something. If you want to make changes interactively and experiment together with the customer, present the prototypes with the “slideshow” option on your notebook (just remember to save the file under different name first). Otherwise just export scenarios and discuss them in your web browser or over a printed hard-copy.

Of course, the same process applies to web pages and web application prototypes. Liberate use of predefined dummy pictures really speeds things up here.

3. Discuss The Requirements Implied By Screen Prototypes

On the workshop with customer, present your ideas for each screen: what particular elements mean and why they are there, what happens when user clicks a button, etc. Determine for each piece of data where does it come from. For example if the table has a “Date” column, which date is it: the creation date, date of the last update or something entirely different. These are real software requirements, nail them. Pay special attention to data which has to be calculated or comes from other systems.

Be prepared to listen, and get the customer do the talking. Your goal is to get feedback, just moderate a bit to stay on the topic and always get back to screen prototypes.

4. Improve Screen Prototypes With New Requirements

When you get the feedback, improve your screen prototypes and requirements accordingly, and always send them to customer for confirmation. If you got through to the customer, her mind could still be processing those screen prototypes and could come up with quite a few surprises.

5. Specify Requirements To Complement The GUI Prototype

When a scenario is finished, invest five more minutes and “empty your head”, go through screen prototypes and document screens one by one. Focus on getting everything on paper as it comes to mind. Don’t analyze or structure anything, let the associations flow and take quick notes. Then apply some minimal structure, but don’t do anything that doesn’t improve the information. In this two-stage manner, you will be able to do this extremely fast. One particular way is to export the scenario, print it (web page will open automatically) and write notes on the paper copy. Then copy screens to Microsoft Word and structure these notes while typing.

When you are finished, you will have a large part of both software requirements and user interface specifications. For smaller applications that might even be all you’ll ever need.

This article doesn’t cover everything about GUI prototyping, and I had to avoid many important aspects of software requirements discipline. But it is effective and you’ll find this particular approach very rewarding: I surely enjoy my work better this way.

In short, experiment, find what works for you and have fun!

Igor Jese works in software development since 1990s, with emphasis on software requirements and development methodology. He is a certified Software Requirements Expert and the author of Mockup Screens, a popular tool for quick GUI prototyping. Find out more on MockupScreens.com

Small to medium companies that want to increase sales or profits and find it is possible to outsource sales should - do it! At this point most business owners and executives either become overwhelmed with doubt or fear.

Here’s what we hear: “We can’t give up control of sales, that’s too risky.” Or “Our products can’t be sold by anyone but us, they are too complicated for anyone else to understand.”

Many small companies outsource accounting and legal work, but still find using contracted sales professionals universally out of the question.
Unfortunately, most small to medium sized companies are good at one thing: making a particular product or providing a particular service - not selling.

Hence, many companies find themselves dissatisfied with the salespeople they hire. They tend to hire people who have experience with a product or market and figure they can teach them how to sell.

This, rarely works, and the company ends up with a product expert who just is not selling. A lose-lose situation is born.

There are many industries that have a preponderance of willing and able partners that are looking for new and innovative (read profitable) products to sell.

The vast majority of these re-sellers operate on a regional basis, other work on a national or even international level.

There are even companies that will set up and manage the entire process for you, and some will even manage your marketing activities as well.

So what makes this approach so good? Here are seven reasons:

* Pay for performance.

Contracted re-sellers do not get paid unless they sell something. They will either receive a commission on the goods sold, or be sold the goods at a discount which they in turn mark up and sell for a profit. This lowers your risk of having to pay salary and benefits and can also allow you to put more feet on the street faster because you’re not handcuffed by these costs.

* They already know how to sell. Professional sales organizations, whether they are called reps, agents, distributors, wholesalers, partners - whatever - have one thing in common, if they don’t sell they don’t get paid. This pretty much ensures that resellers who’ve been in business for any length of time already knows how to sell.

* Specialization.

Re-sellers tend to pick a niche and specialize in particular industries and markets. So they spend their days in this environment and know what needs to be known from a business and technical standpoint. Therefore, if you pick the right ones they surely can handle your “complex” product.

* Instant credibility.

An established re-seller has been calling on companies in their market or territory for years and has long standing relationships in place. These relationships allow them to call their contacts within a target company and easily get some time to present a new product or service that they are now handling. This is, obviously, a lot more effective that having an inside salesperson from the your company cold calling on the same target companies. These existing relationships, therefore lead to increasing a product’s speed to market.

* Other lines bring leads.

Almost all re-sellers have other products to sell. In selling these other products they will uncover opportunities for selling yours.

* They will tell it like it is.

They need you to be doing the right thing because they need to make money, not secure their job. Therefore, you will get candid and timely feedback from the field, allowing you to serve you customers better. Often, feedback received from a rep and one territory can be used to improve relationships and increase sales in all territories.

* An enhanced sales function.

This approach can replace or enhance your current sales function. In some cases it is appropriate to disband an existing direct sales force and commit fully to an indirect or outsourced sales strategy. In this instance you would have a sales manager working directly for you or hire a sales management agency to recruit and manage your indirect sales force. In other instances a company may choose to retain all or part of its direct sales force to certain markets, or manage certain accounts, and outsource other pieces. Despite the many virtues of outsourcing there are some caveats.

First, you’ve got to pick the right ones. Independent re-sellers need to be selling products and services that line up with your offerings. They also need to be selling to the right customers, and the right players within those companies. (Example: You don’t want a re-seller that makes its living calling on purchasing agents if engineers or CFOs are responsible for making the ultimate buying decision for your offering.) Taking the time to find the right reps is more productive and cost efficient than taking the first that express an interest. You don’t want to spend the recruiting and training resources twice if you don’t have to.

Secondly, treat them well and they sell. Simply put, re-sellers follow the money. If your commission rates are on the low end of industry average, you give no added incentive for meeting quota, or you just make doing business difficult, an average agent will spend his time selling other products.
If your commission rates are good, you offer attractive incentives and you make their lives easy, you’ll have agents that turn over every stone in effort to sell your products.

Three other major factors in using an independent sales force are: Support, support, and support. A good rep will know a lot about your product, they will also make sure they know what they don’t know. When faced with a question from a customer for which they don’t know the answer, a good sales agent will say, “I don’t know, but will have you the answer tomorrow.”
It is your job to make sure that you provide them with assistance in finding such answers in a timely fashion. You should also make it a practice to share these questions and answers with the entire sales channel, because questions usually arise in multiple places.

Lastly, outsourcing sales is a commitment. You need to realize that it is going to take some time to establish the sales channel. Usually the same year to eighteen months it takes to get a direct sales person up to speed. With this approach, however, you can have twenty to forty individuals up and selling for you, rather than a handful. Also, with regard to commitment, you cannot vacillate between direct and indirect selling. If the independent channel feels you will be selling direct again soon, they will slow their efforts to a crawl. Plus, word travels fast, if you went from indirect selling, back to direct, agents will be hesitant to engage you if you decide to go back to the indirect approach.

Outsourcing, or indirect selling has been going on for ages. As companies become more conscious of their bottom lines and to sticking to their core competencies we are seeing a renewed vigor in this approach.

If you’re a small or medium sized company that is looking to grow sales and you’re in one of the many industries that lends itself to outsourcing the sales function, it is surely worth investigate.
