What do burglar alarm systems do?

A burglar alarm helps detect unauthorized entry onto your company’s premises. When tripped, the system sends a signal to a central monitoring center. These monitoring centers provide 24/7 service and will alert local police to dispatch authorities to the scene.

Burglar alarm system misconceptions

You may be asking yourself all kinds of questions about burglar alarm systems. Are they for me? Can I afford one? Are they difficult to use and install? Let’s run through the myths and try to put your concerns to rest.

Myth #1: They’re too expensive. These days, a burglar alarm system for businesses are quite affordable - a small business can get a basic system for a few hundred dollars. Many vendors provide the equipment and installation for a modest fee and charge a low monthly monitoring rate.

Myth #2: There’s no value to my bottom line. You may never need it, but the small total cost will pale in comparison to the losses you could realize without protection - your equipment, merchandise, customer information, operation uptime, and even employee confidence that you run a safe work environment.

Myth #3: They’re too hard to use. Operating an alarm system can be as simple as memorizing a few numbers that make up your passcode.

Myth #4: I don’t have time to train employees. It typically takes under an hour to explain and demonstrate how a burglar alarm system works.

Myth #5: The system won’t work if my phone lines are cut or I lose power. Most burglar alarm systems are equipped with sophisticated battery and/or cellular backup systems that kick in right away should your power or phone connection fail.

Myth #6: False alarms will have us “crying wolf.” Many systems allow you to cancel alarms yourself. There are also audible delay features to give authorized personnel time to prove to the monitoring station that they belong there.

Myth #7: They take too long to install. A burglar alarm system for a small-to-medium sized business can be installed in 4-8 hours. A provider can have your alarm up and running and your staff trained within a single workday.

Myth #8: I don’t need one; I have insurance. Insurance exists to replace lost, stolen, or damaged property. But it can’t replace the losses your company experiences due to downtime. What happens if an intruder rips up your phone system or smashes your servers? How about if they steal confidential information about your customers or partners? Insurance won’t reimburse you for business lost or the fear your customers experience from having their identity tampered with.

With a monitored burglar alarm system installed, your business benefits are two-fold - you prevent people from breaking in and stealing or damaging your merchandise, equipment and information, and you also maintain your ability to keep your business running.

How do I find a burglar alarm system vendor?

Talk to a few different companies before having anything installed. Burglar alarm providers will examine your facilities and suggest appropriate solutions. It’s best to get quotes from three to four providers to find out who offers the best balance of price and security.

Aa…Allowance is a rare thing these days. Let your child match socks for a dime. Maybe he could put away clothes for a nickel. Letting a child earn a little here and there teaches responsibility. Make a list of all the things the child can earn money for. Do not pay your child as a way of getting him to do things though. That defeats the purpose of learning.

Bb…Banks can be made out of anything. An oatmeal container, a can with a plastic lid, anything that can have a slot cut into the top will make a perfect change bank. Let your child decorate the outside of the container. By saving up money, your child can learn how to make her money add up.

Cc…Collecting can be fun and very inexpensive. First, talk with your child and discuss what to collect. Get a notebook or an album to keep the collection in. Have relatives in other places send additional items for the collection. Make sure that you write in who sent it and the date. Years from now your child will love going back through the book.

Dd…”Do’s and Don’ts” is a neat game. You tell your child a “do” thing…Like do brush your teeth before bedtime. Then, let your child tell you a “do” thing. Next, tell your child a “don’t” thing…Like don’t talk to strangers. And so on. You can even make this a silly game with a statement like, “Don’t stand on the roof with peanut butter on your toes.” Children love silliness.

Ee…Egg coloring can be done at any time of the year. A few drops of food coloring in a glass of water with a tablespoon of vinegar will create some beautiful eggs to dress up a lunchtime table. Help your child to mix the colors to come up with new ones. Make sure the eggs have been boiled and are completely cooled before hand.

Ff…Feet and hands are fun to trace and can be made into a lot of different pictures. Let your child trace your hand…Then let him turn the hand into a picture of a turkey. See how creative you both can be. A foot tracing can be made into a radical streetcar! Neat, huh?

Gg…Go for a nature walk with your child. Take along a pencil and a notebook to write down all the amazing things you’ll see. Squirrels running up a tree or a big butterfly are beautiful sights. When the walk is over, read what you’ve written down. Then you and your child can draw pictures of what you’ve seen. Put the pictures in the notebook to look at later.

Hh…Hula-hoops are something that not all of us have a talent for. However, they don’t have to be used for spinning around your waist. Lay it on the ground and see how many times you both can jump into the circle and out of the circle. Let your child pretend it’s a steering wheel in the world’s biggest car. Vroom all around the house! Your child will find a zillion different things to do with a hula-hoop.

Ii…Illusion games are a blast! Drape a sheet over an open doorway. Set up a lamp behind the sheet so that it creates a shadow onto the sheet. Take turns with your child holding items up behind the sheet and then guess what the item is. Make sure your child knows not to touch the lamp.

Jj…Jungle animals make a variety of sounds and noises. Play a game of “Jungle Charades” with your child. Take turns acting like an animal, making the appropriate noises. Remember, you are only allowed to do the movements and noises that the animal would make. Parents usually have a hard time because we look so silly doing this but this is a great chance to cut loose and laugh with your child. Just a quick note, children are usually better at guessing and acting out than the parents are.

Kk…Kangaroos hop, crabs walk sideways, and elephants swing their trunks. How many animals can you and your child imitate? Can you come up with an animal for each letter of the alphabet? It’s not totally impossible! Let your child make up some animals and what their movements would be. Maybe they will be an eight-legged monkey from the hidden reaches of the world! Nothing is too outrageous when you’re imitating animals.

Ll…Let your child be the teacher and you get to be the student. What will you learn today? Make sure you raise your hand when you have a question. Children love to be in charge. This will also encourage your child to be a leader.

Mm…Make a picture using your toes to hold the pencil. Can you write your name this way? Can you draw a picture with your toes and a crayon? Children love to try new things and this task is often very comical.

Nn…Newspaper is a great art medium. Mix a small amount of flour and water to make a thin paste. Tear the newspaper into strips and dip them into the paste. The newspaper will be pliable and can be squished and shaped into any form. Let the creations dry for five days. Then you can paint and color your creations.

Oo…Overnight parties are a fun treat. Have a special slumber party! Let your child stay up with you and play games, watch a movie and eat popcorn. Your child will love the extra attention. If your child is older, let a friend or two stay over also.

Pp…Play a game with your child. When was the last time you played Hide & Seek? How about Tag? Or even Ring-Around-The-Rosie? Try to think of games that you played as a child. Children love to do things we did as children!

Qq…”Quiz Me” is a neat game. Have you child put an object into a paper bag. Your child says, “Quiz me”. You ask “yes” or “no” questions until you have properly guessed the item. Switch positions and let your child be the quizzer.

Rr…Races have been around forever. Get creative with different kinds of races. Race bubbles in the air. Race pudding on a plate. Almost any item that has movement can be raced.

Ss…Snakes can be made out of almost anything. Sockie snakes are easy and fun. Take a sock and draw eyes on it. Then put it onto your hand and make it talk. You and your child will have wonderful “snakie” conversations with your sockie snakes. Make sure you exaggerate the “sss” sounds.

Tt…Take a minute each day to tell your child how important he/she is to you. One compliment every day will build a lot of self-esteem in your child.

Uu…Use an old album or notebook as a memory book. Let your child put pictures, stickers and special items in it. Write a caption next to each item so that you can reflect back with your child. Add to the book often.

Vv…Various game pieces from old games can be used to make up a new game. Go through the toy chest and old games to see if there are any stray pieces there. Put the collection on the table and let your child help you create a special game for just the two of you. Each time you play, come up with new rules.

Ww…Whistling is a very hard thing to learn. So instead of whistling, hum! Make kazoos out of cardboard tubes. Place a square piece of wax paper over one end and secure it with a rubber band. Then hum into the open end. Your child will love making up songs with you.

Xx…Xylophones are so pretty. Make your own with your child by taking cardboard tubes and taping them side by side. Place an assortment of jingle bells into each one. When tapped by a wooden spoon, each tube will make a different ring. Let your child color the tubes to make a colorful creation.

Yy…Yellow is a bright and sunny color. Draw pictures with your child of all the things that are yellow. Then hang the picture in a not so sunny place to brighten it up. You’ll both smile sunny smiles every time you pass the picture. Maybe next time can be a Purple day or some other color that your child loves!

Zz…Zebras are black and white. The best hiding spot for a zebra would be in a newspaper. Where can other animals hide? This is a great creative imagination game! Maybe a green frog could hide in the lettuce and a polar bear could hide in your vanilla ice cream. Let your child have fun with this game.

There are so many things that children love to do. One of their favorites is spending time with a loving parent. Make sure that you’re there for your child.

Until next time…

Stay fun and hug your precious little one!

I had a deep yearning to feel like a kid again so I invited two of my nephews to join me for a day of fun at a nearby waterpark. Even though they had never been to a waterpark, they enthusiastically accepted my invitation and immediately decided
that it was going to be tons of fun.

Once we arrived at the park, my nephews told me they would not be going down the big slides. They preferred to stay in the wave pool and the kiddie pool. I went along with this for a while. I had to wonder what those huge water slides looked like
through the eyes of little people. I understood that it looked a bit scary and yet, I was eager for them to know how much fun it is to go down those slides.

Eventually, I was able to coax them into agreeing to go down a super slide. The closer we got to the slide, the more I saw fear come to life. As we climbed the stairs, I tried to make good use of my coaching skills as I encouraged them and
acknowledged their bravery. Despite my best effort, a few tears began to fall as their fears became more intense. One of them said, “BB, why are you making us do this?” and I began to question my determination to see them go down the slide.
Repeatedly, I promised them that going down the slide would be fun and safe while also telling them that if they really didn’t want to, they didn’t have to.

Finally, my youngest nephew agreed to slide down with me. He sat right in front of me and off we went. We screamed and laughed all the way down the slide before we made a splashy landing in a shallow pool of water. My oldest nephew could not
be outdone by his younger brother. Despite being deathly afraid, he went down the slide by himself. In the blink of an eye, that slide went from being their worst nightmare to becoming “the funnest thing ever!”

Weeks later, during our second trip to the waterpark, the kids went directly to the big slides and had no interest in visiting the kiddie section. Their ability to walk through earlier short lived fears opened up a whole new experience of the waterpark. This time around, they were pros.

I marveled at their courage and the payoff. Over and over, they told me how much fun it was to go down those slides and thanked me for bringing them to the waterpark. Their smiling faces and eagerness to climb countless stairs told me that this was for real. They were having a blast. The payoff for overcoming fear was huge in the life of a five and nine year old.

How often do we realize what fear might be cheating us out of? It is so easy to stay in our comfort zones and not take the real or imagined risk that we might be facing. If there is an area in your life where fear is getting in your way, I invite you to dream about how your life might be different if you stop allowing fear to paralyze you.

What can you gain by walking through the fears that might be holding you back?

Within most of us is a deep and compelling need or desire to do
better, feel better and be better. There are so many roads to
travel in our quest to find ourselves, change ourselves or
improve ourselves. Some may ponder life’s great questions from
within their own minds, whilst others may go externally in
search of knowledge or experience. Many take a practical
approach and look at education or developing talents and
techniques. There are many books and courses on things related
to personal growth and we often find ourselves writing down our
goals and charting our accomplishments. Often the focus is on
such things as motivation, self esteem, relationship issues,
breaking or creating habits or getting fit and healthy. Personal
growth is often about our becoming more successful or improving
career and financial issues.

However, at some point during the personal growth adventure,
everyone comes to the realization that the thinking behind the
behaviour must be explored. For many people this is their first
experience with getting out of a conscious thinking mode and
probing a little deeper into the subtleties of the sub-conscious.

The exploration may go deep, and for many it can be an ongoing
work of art. By exploring our behavioural patterns,
sub-conscious beliefs and/or trying to unravel childhood
conditioning, we begin to practice quiet reflection and
stillness. We become more aware of changes on a deeper level.
Perhaps this is viewed as a subtle shift in energy or a greater
awareness of intuition.

We begin to move away from intellectual information in search
of innate wisdom, higher knowledge or at the very least a deeper
understanding of our authentic selves. This, for many people,
will be their initial introduction to meditation.

Some people believe that meditation is the physical mind
communicating with the spiritual. Some will explain it as
communicating with God. Others may believe they are entering a
realm of enlightenment or it may be a language between conscious
and sub-conscious minds.

Personally, I don’t really care about who, how or why, and I
think whatever feels comfortable for each individual is fine.
Quite often you will find that you change your perceptions and
opinions along the way. People like to make simple things
complicated and often people like to argue for the sake of
thinking they are right.

Using visual images and or dialogue during a meditative state
creates communication with either the sub-conscious mind or a
higher aspect of intelligence. Who and/or what is decided by
your own belief system. After a short time of practising
meditation and experiencing the deep sense of peace and
well-being which results, it is almost impossible to not want to
go further and deeper into it. Meditation can quickly become a
habit and most people will go on to using it in many different
ways.

Initially, it may just be a relaxation tool but with regular
practise the powerful changes, which occur deep within the
spirit, become irresistible forces, gently enticing us to seek
deeper or more expansive experiences.

At some point everyone experiences a deep sense of their own
personal energy. We become intrigued with the nature of that
energy and understand we have the ability to balance ourselves
at a core level. This is when we know that we are capable of
healing ourselves from within.

All meditations require your body to be relaxed and comfortable
and your mind to be still and internally focused. You do not
need to shave your head, wear robes, chant om, burn incense and
candles, nor sit in a lotus position.

If you are doing a healing meditation on yourself, you will
probably find that lying on your bed is the most comfortable
place. Mornings are often the best time as you are less likely
to be tired after a night’s sleep. As meditation requires you to
become deeply relaxed, you may find that you will fall asleep
too easily if you are tired.

How you use meditation is determined by your intention. The
basic principle is always the same: relaxed body and internally
focused mind. There are many different uses for meditation and
many different experiences. Although you may have healing as
your intention, you will find that each meditation is a new
experience.

If you have never meditated before you may feel a little
apprehensive or perhaps unsure that you are doing it right.
Rather than go into great explanations and instructions, which
may or may not apply to your experiences, I will try to describe
to you what one of my meditations is like from an inside
viewpoint.

Healing Meditation. I stretch and relax my body, then settle
comfortably, lying on the bed on my back. I breathe deeply and
slowly and tune my awareness into watching the inhalations and
exhalations moving through my body. I remind myself to detach my
awareness from all external influences and encourage myself to
float and drift, peacefully downwards, into a deeper state of
relaxation. It is just a casual observation of my breath and the
serenity which flows through me.

I then direct my focus to the base of my spine (base chakra).
After a short time I become aware of a slight pulsation, which
indicates this area is now open, and freely flowing with energy.
The base chakra is associated with security and a lack of free
flowing energy here would indicate to me that I was holding
tension there, meaning I was feeling unsafe or unsupported.

I imagine a thick, strong, golden cord running from the base of
my spine, down deep into the centre of the earth and grounding
me. This gives me a sense of belonging in my space on the earth
and also being securely held and supported. I then run another
cord from the base of my spine down through my legs and then out
through the soles of my feel. This is an additional grounding
cord and also anchors me. I watch detached, as energy rises
along the cords and I can now physically feel energy waves,
gently and pleasantly swirling around my pelvic area.

I affirm to myself that I am safe, supported, secure and
protected. I am physically and materially provided for, and all
my needs are met, easily and effortlessly.

My attention now lifts to my third eye; this is the screen of
my mind. I look slightly upwards towards the inside of my
forehead, above and behind my eyebrows. I ask the question,
“What do I most need to see, know, feel or do right now?” It’s
tempting to keep asking but I know that stillness is required
and listening is essential. It takes a moment for fluttering and
blurred fragments to focus into clear images and my senses seem
to probe, shift and adjust, trying to hook into a strong
sensation.

Faces of past lovers and friends come into focus and then drift
by. They return pieces of me that they have been holding and I
notice fragments lift from me and return to them. I’m not sure
what this exchange is but as I wonder about this, my intuition
answers, we are letting go and moving on. This is done with
gratitude and love and we all keep what was given and meant to
be taken but we let go of the attachments which may have been
holding us back.

As I contemplated my life, it became crystal clear to me that I
saw myself as someone who needed to be totally self-reliant. I
was unwilling or unable to ask for or accept help from others.
Perhaps I truly believed that there was no help available. I saw
my rebelliousness against authority, my suspicion of people’s
personal agendas, felt my deep disappointment in people who had
taken from me in an underhanded way, I saw myself as small,
scared and vulnerable, in a world of threatening intentions.

I also saw a package of myself as a strong, independent,
capable and clever person. I have a huge determination to fight
fiercely for freedom, justice, independence and truth.

I asked how this played into the pain in my knee. The answer
came that the pain in the knee is the physical manifestation of
arthritis. The arthritis is the physical outcome of a deep
belief in being unsupported and alone. It’s about security on
the deepest level of self; a belief that life itself is an
unsafe place, a deep belief that self-preservation and
protection is my primary objective in life.

From this came an insight into other areas of distress in my
life and I saw the same connection to many years of suffering
deep fatigue and a lifetime struggle with maintaining energy and
money. So, here it was. Arthritis, fatigue and financial lack,
were all physical manifestations of my belief that I am under
threat. It is about fear, abandonment, insecurity or the
constant need to keep myself protected or supported.

This all came as some surprise to me and my impulse was to deny
it. My conscious and rational belief about myself did not want
to accept the idea of myself as insecure. I watch as my sluggish
energy rises into my forehead and I see my third eye open and
alert. It watches vigilantly, looking behind and ahead, darting
back and forth and to the sides, anticipating danger.

I enter my mind and I see a counter, like a mental abacus. I
tally debts here, always counting, always juggling finances,
borrowing here and paying back there. Silently and incessantly,
I resort to wishing and willing and pleading, like a gambler at
the racetrack whose last chance is on number three. I ponder
asking for help, just a little rescue, but of course, I never
would. Could it be that I am unsupported, is my survival under
threat, and am I in a constant state of subliminal stress?

Stress produces adrenaline which seeps down into my body. I am
exhausted and my joints are eroding, stress becomes fatigue and
arthritis, like links in a chain and that chain makes its way
back into my heart. My heart is holding onto the erroneous
belief that I am alone, a warrior without support. I resist, I
don’t want to believe this, I don’t want to deal with this and I
don’t even know if this is fixable.

I relax and become peaceful as I watch the colours and patterns
and energy waves moving gently and refreshingly through me again.

There is a dark spot though in the centre of my throat and I
ask what this is. The voice inside my mind answers, “This is the
crying room.” I immediately know what this means. I haven’t
cried in a long, long time. My throat is my cut off point. I
developed this skill as a young child; in fact, I still remember
the day I made a solemn vow to myself. The vow was that if
anyone hurt me, I would not allow them the satisfaction of
seeing their effect on me. If I was hurt, verbally abused,
humiliated or disappointed in anyway, I would clench my teeth,
set my jaw, swallow hard and close my throat, so that a sob
could not escape. I could set my face into a poker face and hold
my body straight; I could look you in the eye without any
_expression at all. Inside I would cry, inside I felt like I was
dying, but my throat would be clamped shut. Sometimes this was
extremely hard to do and very painful, I felt I was strangling
myself but I would rather choke than give anyone the
satisfaction of seeing me cry.

As light poured into the darkness of the crying room, I felt my
throat and neck muscles relax. I can’t remember a time when my
throat was completely relaxed and this felt liberating. I saw
words and music rise out from my neck and float away. I sensed
my thyroid rebalance and wondered again about my relationship
with fatigue. Could the tension in my throat have been affecting
my thyroid function and further interfering with my vitality? I
wanted to explore this question further but my attention was
drawn to the words rising from my throat.

“Speak your truth,” I saw written. “I do,” I heard my self
reply. God only knows the trouble I have encountered by speaking
my truth. I have been accused of being indiscreet, insensitive,
confrontational, argumentative, self-opinionated and naïve.

“No,” responded the voice, “Speaking your truth is about
respecting and honouring yourself. It’s about releasing an
insight that may seem trivial or insignificant to you but it
might just be a powerful message to the listener. It’s about
integrity, honesty, wisdom, prophesy and clarity. It’s about you
being the messenger and the message may be medicine. If it’s on
your heart to say it, then you must say it. To thyne own self be
true. We are all teachers, healers, prophets and messengers.
Words of truth to yourself and others, brings true freedom.”

I find myself back in a space of serenity and silence and feel
like I have just returned from the great halls of wisdom. I feel
changed, transformed, mildly confused and vaguely aware that it
will take time to fully understand and work with this
experience. I wonder where all this will lead, how will I
release old beliefs and actualize these insights.

I feel light, peaceful, excited, free, alive and vibrant. I
know that something huge and heavy has been lifted. I have been
transformed, but into what and how? Am I so different now that
my life will be different too? Can I maintain this state and if
so how? Will I wake up and be permanently healed, secure, wiser
or better?

The questions seem to go unanswered, other than a vague thought
that time will tell. I find myself tuning back into energy waves
and my body once again becomes awash with light. There is a
deep, deep sense of well being flowing though me and around me.
I drift lazily and contentedly back into full consciousness.
Softly, and seemingly from a long way away, I hear a voice call
out the word, “Yes.”

The word Tweaking simply means to fine tune. You want to fine tune your computer so that it will boot up faster.Tweaking your computer so that it will run at peek performance will cause you to enjoy your computer like you never imaged.

There are procedures you can perform that will speed up the operating system boot-up.When tweaking your startup process, take care not to allow your computer to boot up too fast.Too fast booting will cause your PC to miss valuable data and not check all peripherals it needs to allow the computer to run at its best.

Speeding up your booting process will reduce the waiting time you can use the computer. Here are some procedures you can perform that will help speed up your PC startup.Be sure to backup your hard drive in case you should make an error.Take your time and perform these tasks at your own risk.

Take notes of everything you do.Backup your BIOS with such utilities as Cmos14.zip.This file is just 5,569kbs zipped and You can download a copy from our site at the url www.ultimatepcrepair.com/files/cmos14.zip

FIRST….Use Scandisk and Defragment on your hard drive if you are not performing these two maintenance steps regularly.Over time, your files become scattered all over your hard drive. This causes the computer to hunt for every piece of file fragments throughout the drive.

SECOND…..Clean Up Your Registry. The installing and uninstalling of applications cause your registry to have many files it does not use.Your system slows down at startup because these files are loaded into memory every time the PC is started.Registry Healer which is a trial ultility will scan your registry for problems.

And Registry Tuner allow you to view and remove unwanted software in your registry.Windows Reg Edit is a small ultility within Windows that will perform the same function. You may want to give Registry First Aid a try as well.

Visit the online version of this newsletter at http://www.ultimatepcrepair.com/news/35.html to download the trial versions of the above utilities.

THIRD…….Edit Your SysEdit Configuration by Clicking on Start,Run,and then type “sysedit” in the open block. You will be presented with your system files.Check and remove any files you know are not needed. You can type “REM” at the start of a line to disable it to see if your computer has need for it.

Take notes of any changes you make so that you can undo what you did should any problems arise. The ultility Bootvis is a good Windows XP ultilty that helps your boot process,We used it on our Windows Home XP computer and we noticed a difference. To learn much more visit www.microsoft.com/hwdev/platform/performance/fastboot /BootVis.asp and download your copy.

FOURTH….Remove unwanted programs that may be starting up in your Startup Folder. This folder as well as your Sysedit file may have programs slowing the PC down. Click on Start,Settings,Taskbar and Start Menu Tab, Start Menu Programs,Remove, and go down to the Startup Folder. There you can expand and remove any unwanted programs.

FIFTH…..Go to Start,Run,type “msconfig” in the open box and press enter.Click on Startup and here you can remove programs here as well. The thing to remember is to take notes of any program you remove just in case you find that program useful after all.Be sure to take the time and backup your system files so that you can restore these files should something go wrong.Take notes of files you remove from Sysedit or msconfig.

SIXTH….Enable your Quick Boot option in your BIOS.Access your Bios and locate this feature that bypasses some of the checks your computer makes at POST.The downside to enabling this feature is that it increases the chances of a hardware failure going undetected. You may want to use this feature from time to time and see if the difference in bootup speed is worth it.

We hate it when our computer creep alone when we turn on the power button, when we play our favorite Hi-Resolution star wars game,or when we decided to go on the internet, that is,if it doesn’t take a couple minutes to logon.Upgrading and tweaking your PC to run faster can be performed quick and easy,if we put to use the neat utilities Windows as well as many third party software has to offer.

If you are still trying to write system specifications in English then you are in trouble. For the same reason that engineers and architects use graphical tools to specify their products so too must software specifiers (the term software engineer may be used, but it does imply that we’re using a disciplined approach).

A system needs to be broken into small pieces in a structured way and we need to show various views of the system and how they fit together. Typically we may show a process view, a data view, perhaps a time-line view.

Each piece, or module, can then be specified, using the following rules:

1. Structure the specification - use a numbering system. Number each separate business rule. User acceptance tests can then be devised and cross-referenced accordingly.

2. Cross-reference - your specification must cross-reference to the basic processes of your process model.

3. Your headings should include Overview, Input Files, Output Files, Files Referenced, Processing Rules.

4. Write in the present tense, not the future. It’s easier to write, easier to read, and it makes more sense as it will be read and used more when the product exists.

5. Write from the viewpoint of the processor, not the user.

6. Be crystal clear and unambiguous. Use the active voice (subject, verb, object, sequence), not passive voice (object, verb or verb phrase, subject, sequence).

7. Test the specification - before it gets to the developer!

8. The rules of clear writing apply. In addition, do not use words like should, could, may, can, might, as these lead to ambiguity. Do not use automatically - a computer process by definition is an automatic process - that is what you are specifying.

Living in the southeast, we all know that Hurricane season will soon be upon us. There are many things we will need to do to prepare, but following are some things that can be done now, pre-hurricane season, to lessen the burden once the storm season is approaches.

First of all, your homeowners insurance… check the amount of your coverage, and your deductibles, especially hurricane deductibles, and then contact your agent regarding any increases/changes you may want to make. Remember, most insurance companies will not make changes to your existing policy, or write new policies, when a hurricane is approaching.

Along with your homeowner’s insurance policy, you will want to keep copies of your auto insurance policy, a list of account numbers and phone numbers for any bill you normally pay, in a sealed waterproof case. It is also a good idea to verify the contact numbers before the season starts, and to obtain alternate phone numbers outside your area, in case there is damage to your local agent’s office.

If you have a computer with a lot of irreplaceable files, photos, music etc. you may want to consider backing up your files now, whether you purchase an external backup for your computer, or copy your files onto CDs. It’s a very time consuming process and not something you would normally do at the last minute.

Look over your home and your property. This may be a good time to have trees cut down or large, overhanging, dead branches trimmed, since landscaping companies will tend to be less busy in the off-season. Check your window seals and door seals for leaks. Spraying with a hose from outside, while someone is on the other side to check is one way to do it. Double entry doors should have double bolts to anchor in floor and ceiling. From personal experience, even with the bolts in and hurricane shutters over the doors, they still felt like they were going to break open!

Make sure you have every window and door covered. Removable shutters should be properly labeled or numbered to save time installing them. If you moved into a new residence, and it came with shutters, try to do a practice run with them, making sure all parts etc. are there. If you don’t have shutters or plywood yet, now’s the time. If you have a garage, make sure you can brace that door, especially to the frame, check with garage door companies or home improvement stores for the best solutions for your doors. Take pictures of your home and property, inside and out and keep them in your waterproof case (many times this is overlooked when rushing to prepare).

Think about your pet(s). Are they up to date on their vaccines? Are their rabies & identification tags on their collar? Making their yearly appointment prior to June 1st will
insure that they are in good shape. If you don’t own a carrier or portable kennel, get one, especially if you live in an evacuation zone. Check local agencies prior to hurricane season to determine which shelters accept pets. Some will not accept pets without your registering them prior to a hurricane. If you plan to evacuate to a hotel out of your area, check in advance as to their pet policy. Larger animals, such as horses, I’d suggest a microchip, tag or some other sort of permanent device to identify them in case they get loose after a storm. Horse owners I know use different methods of identification, such as ID bands, braiding a waterproof tag into the tail, even spray painting address/phone info! Those were last minute attempts though. It is also a good idea to keep pictures of you and your animals, along with any important documentation (like your horse’s coggins test, or other health records) in your waterproof case, for proof of ownership. Check with your County Government agencies, there may be a registration program for your animals and such emergencies.

Remember, these are all things that can be completed BEFORE hurricane season. The past few years should be a lesson to all of us! Early preparation is a must and getting ahead by having all of these things done, will make the ‘last minute’ arrangements not so ‘last minute’ and (no pun intended) a breeze.

Here’s the list once again, for your WATERPROOF case:
(keep the case portable, but locked in a safe or fire proof cabinet until hurricane)
INSURANCE POLICIES, with verified emergency contact numbers out of your area.
PHOTOS, of your property, pets, anything of value that you own & want to document.
OWNERSHIP RECORDS, for pets & livestock, such as registrations, health records, etc.
IRREPLACABLE RECORDS, such as all bills you pay, along with their account numbers, contact phone numbers, login info, backup CDs etc.

Presuming you have an opportunity to flirt. How do you want to go about it? One of the easiest approaches is to pretend you are a palm reader! This gives you a smooth access to touch her hand and coo into her ears some romantic nothings.

What does the future hold for me? Women love to hear this, from as many people as possible. Though claiming gallantly that they don’t believe in this sort of archaic stuff…but a tarot reader, an astrologist or a handwriting expert, they will be the first ones to cue in front of them. So why not pretend to be one of those experts, and tell them things they love to hear. Right from “you are too sentimental”, to “no body has understood you properly so far”, lines like these sell.

Try to carry with you or wear on you something, that intrigues them, makes them curious or arouses the mother instinct them. For instance, babies. Most women love them but make sure she does not go home thinking the baby is yours! Some women ask point blank, whose is it, if they are keen to know you further. Or else, wear an interesting hat, or some other props which invite a question. I remember meeting a man in a bar, who kept on licking his nose tip with his tongue. He didn’t go home alone that night!

To stand out and draw her attention, you have to do something which is slightly rare and she does not come across often. Like magic. It is an amazing tool to start the flirting game. Learn a few card tricks and show off. First it displays your level of confidence, secondly it makes you somewhat exotic.

The next best thing that appeals to a majority of women is music. And musicians. Sing your way through to her heart, or play the mandolin or guitar and strum away. You not only romanticize your date but what a wonderful way to flirt, using someone else’s lyrics, another one’s music! You can sometimes tell her what you feel like telling her, through a song. Other talents include juggling, origami, painting etc. But the crux of the matter is having a skill and use it as a flirting tool.

Rule number one: Don’t try this with a woman who could be working for a Market Research Agency. Rule number two: Don’t try this if you do not have a generous gift of the gab. But if you are truly bold (not necessarily beautiful) try this trick. Think up a sham survey on dating. Target a few women, walk up to them and ask their views on dating. Normally nobody refuses a survey, because at that instant, they feel important and their views worthy.

Immediately afterwards, ask for their phone number and e mail address with the excuse of a possible “follow-up”. Rest is your way of working through the whole project. But be very careful; if you stammer, falter or even buckle under pressure, you could earn a bad reputation (or a black eye!).

There are innumerable innovative ways of getting to know women. The whole issue here is to find your comfort area and operate from there. Then shift out and work more. And last but not the least, think up more creative ways of your own, taking a cue from the market survey as above.

Effective & In-effective Ways To Add Banners:

By: Martin Lemieux

Do you have your own site? Do you have any banners on
your site?

Banners are everywhere, the internet is full of them
all over the place. So the question is, how do you ad
a banner that receives a lot of clicks?

- By not placing it with 20 other banners
- By adding your banner everywhere you can
- By adding more content!

The last one is the key. Anyone can just simply add
a banner and hope that it generates revenue but if you
add content to with your banner. You’ll be giving your
visitors a benefit by clicking on the banner. Doing
this will bring you better results.

For example:
Here’s an imaginary banner for X services.

This is what it should look like!
——————————————————

X Services: Never leave home without it!

Were happy to bring you this wonderful resource
because it was an instrumental reason for our success!

X Services helped us to manage our content more
swiftly and with ease. Our production time was cut in
1/2 and we saved a lot of money on labor.

You won’t be disappointed and learning more won’t cost
you a penny!!!

—————————————————-

X Services - Click Me For More Information

—————————————————-

——————————————————

Now if you follow that example, you’ll notice I listed
all the benefits as to why someone would want to click
on that banner. I DID NOT list the features. People
don’t relate to features they act on impulse and
emotions.

What I recommend is try out a few examples like the
one I just showed you. Ask your friends which examples
are better and which made them think about clicking on
the banner.

I myself don’t take part in banners on my site all
that often. I find it takes away from my design and
what I’m trying to accomplish.

What I will take part in is smaller, easier to use
banners that don’t take up the whole width of the
page. This allows me to compliment the banner with
text right beside it.

Here’s an example of what I mean:

With the proliferation, affordability, and convenience of
broadband Internet and cell phone service, customers are
foregoing traditional telephone service all together. Having a
cell phone instead of a land line seems like a terrific idea.
Cell phone customers do not have to be tied down to a location,
they can get phone calls from anywhere, and plus they get
long-distance included. In theory it seems like a good idea but
actually it does not tend to work out as planned. Cell phones
were not designed to be used for regular everyday calls while in
your home. They were designed as mobile phones and most service
plans treat them as such, with outrageous fees for going over
the allotted monthly minutes. Most cell phone only customers
find they run out of minutes every month and have enormous cell
phone bills as a result. So they would be better off having a
land line or paying for enormous monthly minutes on their cell
phone service. There is a better way.

VoIP phone service is a wonderful way to eliminate the need for
expensive, regular telephone service. With a VoIP adapter and
VoIP service, customers can use their broadband Internet service
and regular telephone to make local and long-distance calls for
a low monthly fee. The monthly fee usually includes such typical
services as unlimited long-distance, call waiting, caller ID,
voicemail, 3-way calling, call forwarding, and other lesser used
features that regular telephone companies charge extra. So for a
modest monthly fee VoIP customers can have broadband Internet
and land line phone services and still afford to keep their cell
phone. VoIP saves money by eliminating expensive traditional
telephone service and allows cell phone minutes to be used when
necessary.
