Tools of Power
by Alan Tutt
http://www.KeysToPower.com

In the long history of religion, magick, and spirituality, there have been many different tools used to try and direct Power or gain the cooperation of spirits. These tools have taken many different forms, yet their purpose and the reason they worked have all been the same.

Some of the earliest tools of Power were pieces of wood, animal teeth, claws, shells, and other things that were found or collected. Part of the reasoning that these tools may have a spiritual influence was the connection they had to living things. Life has always been considered the ultimate expression of Power.

Soon, however, other natural things were associated with Power, things like crystals, stones, and metals. Especially those that had a shiny surface, or were in some way out of the ordinary. Of course, the progression of items associated with Power didn’t stop there, and began to include shapes, symbols, words, and other more abstract things.

In general, most of these tools of Power were simply kept as an amulet, with the hope that the Power of the amulet would somehow rub off and create good luck for the person wearing or carrying it. As the ‘technology’ of spirituality became more sophisticated, the basic elements (wood, stone, crystals, and so on) were combined into pieces of jewelry, ‘rods of Power’, and even idols. And of course, the methods of using these new tools became more sophisticated as well, growing into full fledged rituals with dances, chants, costumes, and more.

But what makes these tools work? Do these tools somehow attract the beneficial attention of spirits (or of the Supreme Being itself)? Is there some higher scientific laws at work, like electromagnetism or radiation? Or is it all a matter of suggestion, and the resulting effects of blind faith? The proponents of each theory are able to demonstrate viable evidence for each.

Of course, before we can answer this question, we must come to some understanding of where the Power that is being used by these tools is actually coming from. Although it cannot be proved (if it could, why would we even need to discuss the idea), it is generally accepted that true Power comes from a spiritual Source. The scientific community will generally identify this Source as a natural phenomenon like electricity or gravity, but even so, there is a Source of this Power.

Science is actually closer to knowing the truth than anyone realizes. Quantum physics is finding that all matter is composed of a basic essence that is neither matter nor energy, but something unknown that somehow responds to thoughts and beliefs. And in the field of psychology, scientists are discovering that the human mind has far more potential than anyone ever thought possible!

In concise terms, the Source of all Power is accessible to the human mind, to animal minds, and to all forms of intelligence anywhere. Even inorganic substances like rock, glass, and air have a limited degree of intelligence. But in general, the higher the level of intelligence, the greater degree of Power that may be accessed and used.

Because of this, it would seem logical that the inorganic tools of Power would have very little Power themselves, but would rather act as a catalyst to helping us tap and use our own connection to Power. And while the natural tools of Power, such as wood pieces, teeth, claws, and so on have (or had) a greater degree of intelligence, they also would have much less Power than we have ourselves.

Modern psychology has discovered some of what causes these tools of Power to have their catalytic influence on the human mind. In a single word, in can be summed up as ‘belief’. If you believe that a shiny rock will give you good luck, then it will. If you believe that breaking a mirror will give you seven years of bad luck, then it will. If you believe that kissing the first person of the opposite sex you see in the day will give you extra strength and endurance, then that will become true for you. In the Keys To Power (and many other systems) this is known as the Law of Belief. The world will appear to you to be what you believe it to be.

The flip side to this is interesting. Since it is the inner mind that has a direct connection to Power. Whatever you believe to be an effective method of working with Power will cause the inner mind to work with Power more effectively when you are performing that method. In other words, if you believe that sitting in a yoga position chanting for hours at a time will increase your supply of Power, then the inner mind will give you access to more Power when you perform this ritual (an intangible tools of Power). If you believe that working with a metal tube with a crystal attached to one end will help you focus Power towards a specific goal, then your inner mind will focus Power even more strongly when you are working with the crystal rod.

But this is not to say that these tools of Power are worthless, that they have no value in and of themselves. If you are unable to focus your Power without a tool, and the tool helps you focus your Power, then by all means use the tool. We do not come out of the womb able to walk, so we use whatever it takes to move us around until that time when we are ready to walk. We do not have the ability (yet) to fly on our own, so we use tools to help us do that when the time calls for it. Tools are beneficial when we are unable to perform a task without them.

The bottom line on tools of Power is this. They work according to your belief. That belief is usually built by association and repetition. The more you are exposed to an idea, and the more you are exposed to similar ideas, the stronger your belief. If you have been exposed to the idea that crystals, or pyramids, or ley lines, or glass beads have a Power and will give you the ability to control Power, then work with that belief and use it. But also work to develop your ability to work with Power without the tools. In the Keys To Power, we acknowledge that tools perform a service, yet we work constantly to improve ourselves to the point where the tools are unnecessary.

We all need some confidence building from time to time. Part of
feeling confident has a lot to do with how we feel about
ourselves. Feeling like we can accomplish things we set out to
do is important to feeling confident.

Remember that we all have talents and gifts. Whether we feel
confident in these skills is very much part of thinking like a
winner. Here is an easy way you can train yourself to think like
a winner.

Make yourself a ‘to do’ list. Before you start complaining that
you’ve tried that already in the past and it didn’t work, let’s
go over the rules for this list. This is a list to make you feel
like a winner.

It is your job to help yourself to feel as much like a winner as
possible by making a list that is fun and easy to get done. I
mean super easy. Ridiculously easy, even.

Here’s a sample list:

1. Get out of bed. 2. Brush my teeth and comb my hair. 3. Get
dressed. 4. Eat something. 5. Eat something else. 6. Walk to a
car, bus or another room. 7. Smile. 8. Answer the phone. But
only if it rings. 9. Put socks on…

Are you getting the idea? This isn’t your average ‘to do’ list.
This is a sort of self-conditioning list. Seeing all those check
marks or seeing everything crossed off your list will make you
feel like you’ve had a productive day. You’ll gain confidence in
your abilities to get things done.

If you practice this fun list making, you’ll come to think of
yourself as a winner. If you forget to write the list one
morning, write a ‘done’ list at the end of the day. Just list
‘got out of bed’, etc. and mark them off.

As silly as this confidence building list making may seem, bear
in mind that the subconscious doesn’t care about what is real or
imagined. All it will see is a list that has been checked off
every day. Eventually, you’ll notice yourself feeling more
confident. You can then start adding real tasks to your list and
doing them with the same ‘feel good’ attitude you had when you
made your practice lists.

Don’t add too many, to start. Camouflage the real items you want
to accomplish with your stand-by easy ones. The reason you don’t
want to do a complete shift in list writing is that feeling good
is an important element of confidence building.

Just look at someone you know to be confident. Are they down in
the mouth or smiling? Allow yourself the joy of having fun with
life. You’ll feel like a winner!

AGOURA HILLS, Calif. - November 7, 2005 - Symark, developer of
leading UNIX/Linux security and administration solutions, today
announced PowerBroker 4.0, which introduces the ability to
deploy command shells that provide powerful extended control and
logging. In addition, a GUI report writer has been added, which
greatly facilitates event log reporting. PowerBroker provides
UNIX and Linux systems security and accountability by enabling
system administrators to manage requests and delegate
administrative task privileges and authorization without
disclosing the “superuser” or root password. It also enables
system administrators to grant selective access to UNIX and
Linux-based corporate resources. PowerBroker protects the root
account–the most targeted user account–from hackers who could
remove critical system files, gain access to confidential data,
and delete audit trails. Administrative tasks such as system
programs mounting, performing backups, and adding new users can
be delegated to individuals or groups at a granular level, thus
reducing the risk of accidental damage and the threat of
malicious activities thus dramatically increasing enterprise
security. “Organizations are looking to implement access
management solutions to meet regulatory compliance, improve
operational efficiency, and contain costs,” said Doug Yarrow,
Symark’s president and co-CEO. “PowerBroker offers organizations
a cost-effective, non-intrusive, and secure tool for managing
root privileges and meeting regulatory requirements. The
enhanced shell, GUI report writer, logging, and security
capabilities of version 4.0 make PowerBroker a valuable
component of a robust and secure UNIX/Linux privilege management
infrastructure.” PowerBroker can control accounts with any
elevated privilege, such as ORACLE and SAP. PowerBroker also
provides a detailed audit trail of all tasks down to the
keystroke that helps organizations pass UNIX and Linux audits
and ensure regulatory compliance. PowerBroker 4.0 is shipping
now and will be demoed at the CSI 32nd Annual Computer Security
Conference and Exhibition in Washington DC November 13-15, 2005.
PowerBroker Version 4.0 PowerBroker 4.0 provides two variations
of the standard Korn and Bourne shells. The Korn shell provides
a convenient user interface for interactive sessions, while the
Bourne shell provides a fast interface for scripts without the
overhead of the interactive user interface. The shells provide
PowerBroker security for shell scripts, log all shell activity,
control shell built-in commands and I/O redirection, provide
sub-shell control and the ability to authorize commands by a
PowerBroker MasterDaemon, and enable commands to be run either
locally or through a PowerBroker Local Daemon. To further
facilitate compliance, PowerBroker 4.0 offers several logging
improvements. A new retry limit allows the script writer to stop
waiting for a server that is no longer in service. Failover
prioritizes log servers based on the number of failures during
the secured task, while event logs in CSV and XML format
facilitate data exchange with other programs. With support for
I/O logging for local mode, PowerBroker 4.0 obviates the need
for a log server while eliminating log server reconnections for
improved performance and less network overhead. PowerBroker 4.0
introduces a powerful report writer that provides an easy way to
report on the PowerBroker Event Logs, which eases the generation
of compliance and audit reports. The report writer incorporates
a web-based GUI with a wizard style workflow to make event log
reporting simple and straightforward. Additional enhancements in
PowerBroker 4.0 include a new PAM client interface, which allows
PowerBroker to easily work with local accounts, NIS/NIS+
accounts, LDAP accounts, and any current or future accounts
supported in PAM. Security improvements guard against host
spoofing, provide greater control over remote jobs, and make it
easier to identify the host from which a job originated. New
resource limits in PowerBroker 4.0 control how much of a
computer’s resources a job can use, while improved environmental
diagnostics make it easier for administrators to diagnose their
setup. Connectivity enhancements not only allow PowerBroker to
be run on a specific interface for greater control and to
further limit spoofing and errors but they also enable programs
to be run without a network. In addition, with version 4.0,
PowerBroker now supports Ipv6 and Unix Local Domain Sockets.

Dreams are the most important part of living. By tapping into them one can explore the waking world, and actually work through issues before they have even come to light. There are two factors one must consider in dream work: remembering one’s dreams and recording those dreams. I have had many clients tell me they could not remember their dreams, or that they do not dream. Everyone dreams, every night. How can one record what one cannot recall? There is one method I believe works well. Before sleeping for the night, form your hand into a fist and hold it in the center of your chest. Close your eyes and say: “I will remember my dreams when I wake up.” Say this three times, once aloud and twice to yourself.

Once you begin recalling dreams, you can begin to record them. Purchase a journal, any kind will do. Some of my clients buy a notebook with an inspirational cover while others simply pick a small school notebook. Personally, because I do heavy dream work each day, I have a notebook and a small tape recorder that I use during the night because handwriting can be tricky when you wake up from dreaming. In dream recall everything is important. A general rule would be to make a point of recalling any of the following: colors, shapes, gender, water, weather, movement, and so on. These points reveal a great deal about the state of your life overall.

Dreaming with crystals can enhance the dream state in many ways, depending on the type of crystal and how it is used. The results can be enlightening, enriching and therapeutic. Below are methods and the crystals one might use.

*Stress Release And Insomnia - Amethyst is an excellent stone for relieving you of the stress of the day. A relaxing crystal, it also helps with insomnia and headaches. Take a glove and place it over your left “receiving” hand before retiring to bed. Slip a small amethyst crystal into the glove You will be able to get a good night’s rest, release stress, and your dreams may become more uniform, thus allowing you to remember them more easily. Once you become more comfortable with dreaming with amethyst, you may want to tape one to your third eye before sleeping and create some real magic!
*Love And Romance - Rose quartz and Jade are good crystals/stones for dreams where love is the issue at hand. Place either crystal (or both) under your pillow. (I find it best to actually slip the stone into the pillowcase. If it gets lost during the night, don’t worry. It simply means you no longer need the benefits of those particular crystals. The energies of these stones are soft and may bring forth dreams that are loving and filled with positive vibrations.
*Problem Solving - Clear quartz is the best for issues one needs to work through while sleeping. Program a clear quartz point with the issue on your mind, with the express request to solve your issue via your dreams (see my previous article on Crystal Awareness for how to program). You will find that when you awake you will be more focused, grounded, and clear with your issue.
*Money and Prosperity - Citrine is an excellent crystal for bringing about wealth in body, mind and spirit. Known as the merchant stone, it manages to attract abundance in ways that fortify balance, whether that balance is sought in the home, the bank account, the body, spirit, or the mind. Intent is important…as is your faith that God and the Universe will provide for your needs. Citrine is also helpful in cleansing the chakras (energy fields) of the body. You will find yourself awakening refreshed after using Citrine.

I strongly suggest that you dream with crystals for a full week, recording your results and the crystals you use, before moving on to the next crystal-dream exercise you want to try. Consistency and intent are most important. Your intention, your faith and your desire for accomplishment will bring about positive results. There are as many methods as there are crystals. There is no right or wrong to doing this. Tape a crystal to your wrist or third eye; wear a glove with a crystal inside, slip it under your pillow, or even place some crystals under your mattress, forming a grid around your bed. Experimentation is the key. Just make sure to keep an accurate record of the crystal/gemstone you use, how you are using it, and the length of time within which you used it. I wish you luck and I wish you love! Enjoy this new adventure in dreaming with crystals.

Shopping for horse gifts or other gift items on the internet
is quick, convenient and is probably safer than you think.
However, you still need to be aware that it is essential to
vigorously protect your privacy and financial information
when making purchases online.

If you take the necessary precautions to protect
yourself when shopping for those special gifts for horse
lovers, it should be no riskier than buying by mail order or
over the phone.

To make your shopping experience a safe and happy one, the
Following suggestions may be of help:

1. When shopping, always be sure that the Web site is secure
before you provide any financial information, like your bank
account number or credit card information.

Secured Web sites will use encryption to scramble your
information when transmitted over the Internet.

There are a couple of ways for you to identify if a Web site
is secure.

a. A Web site address that is secure is preceded by “https”.
For example,https//www.secure-site.com.The letter s at
the end of http indicates that Web site is secure.

b. Look for a yellow or golden closed lock or an unbroken
key at the bottom of your browser window.

Web sites may use other symbols to indicate their Web
site is secure, so if you don’t see the two symbols
mentioned above continue to investigate and see if you can
locate other symbols or information indicating their Web
site is secure.

2. Still uncomfortable with providing your billing
information over the Internet? Then you might want to ask
the business you’re shopping if they use alternate methods,
such as the telephone.

3. Whenever possible, it is recommended paying by credit
card; this will offer you added protection if a dispute
should arise.

4. If you prefer not paying by credit card, request that
your purchase be sent C.O.D. You can make your payment by
check or money order, this is easier to trace than cash. It
is probably a good idea that you never pay in cash for
obvious reasons.

5. Some businesses display the Better Business Bureau logo
on their Web Site, others do not. If you’re not feeling at
ease, consider checking with the Better Business Bureau for
a reliability report. The report will include such
information as; the length of time the company has been in
business, the company’s complaint history and whether
the business participates in BBB programs, such as dispute
mediation.

6. If you shop online auctions, be sure you exercise the
same good sense you use for your other transactions. Do your
homework. Check the “feedback” areas of online auction
sites; most of the time they are a good source for getting
information about other buyers’ who have purchased from the
seller. You can always check with the Better Business
Bureau nearest the seller for any complaints if the seller
is a business.
