Are you having trouble getting rid of your panic attacks and
other anxiety related problems? It is not easy to manage your
anxieties, however here are some techniques a person can use to
help conquer their panic attacks and other anxiety related
symptoms.

The first step is that you should talk to a professional who can
get you started in the right path of getting better. Getting
help from a counselor or other professional is very important
and can provide you much help and insights in dealing with your
current problem.

A good way to manage your anxiety is to challenge your negative
thinking with positive statements and realistic thinking. When
encountering thoughts that make your fearful or anxious,
challenge those thoughts by asking yourself questions that will
maintain objectivity and common sense.

When overwhelmed with worry, a person may encounter a lot of
scary thoughts coming at them all at once. Instead of getting
upset, remember that these thoughts are exaggerated and are not
based on reality. From my interviews with various professionals,
I’ve learned that usually it is the fear behind the thoughts
that gets us worked up. Ignore the fear behind these thoughts,
and your worry should decrease.

Sometimes, we get stressed when everything happens all at once.
Instead of taking it out on someone else a person should take a
deep breath and try to find something to do for a few minutes to
get your mind off of the problem. A person could take a walk,
listen to some music, read the newspaper or do an activity that
will give them a fresh perspective on things. This mental
timeout can help you refocus on your current situation.

Another thing to remember is that things change and events do
not stay the same. For instance, you may feel overwhelmed today
with your anxiety and feel that this is how you will feel the
rest of the week or month. This isn’t correct. No one can
predict the future with 100 Percent accuracy. Even if the thing
that you feared does happen there are circumstances and factors
that you can’t predict which can be used to your advantage.

As a Layman I realize that experiencing a panic attack is scary.
The next time it happens remember to apply some of these
techniques you recently learned. The key is to be patient and
not to give up. In time, you will be able to cope with your
panic attacks.

We all have them in our system tray, programs that load up and use precious memory resources and take up valuable space on your taskbar. Some of them you need, but most you can do without. Take charge and clean them out.

Some of the kinder and well written programs are configurable and allow you to change the settings that starts them up. If this option is available, then this is the best approach.

There are, however, many programs that do not give you the choice and no matter how many times you remove them, they return. Two that I find really annoying are the “Windows Messenger” and the “Quicktime Task”. Both sit in the system tray and I don’t need or want them there. I’ll show you how to get rid of them forever if you have Windows XP Pro or Windows 2000. For those with Windows XP Home, this solution will not work.

First and foremost, however, I’d like to discuss a little gem of a program called Startup Control Panel, written by a young chap called Mike Lin from Boston. The program is available as freeware from www.mlin.net and Mike takes donations from those who want to contribute to his efforts.

This program works under all versions of Windows and is a vital part of any Windows installation. It’s a program that will allow you to control exactly what programs load at system startup. This is one of the first things I install after setting up a computer with Windows. The program can either be loaded as a standalone program or incorporated into your Control Panel. I prefer the latter, but both work equally well.

When you invoke the program, there are a series of tabs across the top. The 4 that you should be concerned about are labelled, “Startup (user)”, “Startup (common)”, “HKLM/Run” and “HKCU/Run”. These represent 4 different methods by which your computer can run programs when the system first starts. There are 3 other tab, which are not as important and are self-explanatory anyway. Note that the tabs may be on 2 levels depending on the windows size. I usually drag the window and make it wider so that all the tabs fit natly across on the page in a line.

Going through each of the 4 tabs, look at the checked items that will run. To stop them from running, uncheck the box. If you are unsure about a program, uncheck it and see what the effects are. You can awlays revise this later if something stops working. As an exercise, run the Windows Task Manager (by hitting the Ctrl, Alt and Del keys simultaneously) and note down how much memory is taken up by your system on a fresh start. The figure is listed on the status bar of the Task Manager under “Mem Usage”. After unchecking all the unwanted programs, restart your system and compare the number and see how much less memory is being used. This is the amount you have saved and all things going well, you’ll notice that your system is snappier and definitely less cluttered.

You will soon find that some programs do not like being unchecked. Yes, you guessed it, the two that I mentioned above, “Windows Messenger” and “Quicktime Task”. They will reappear everytime you delete them. Worry not for there is another way for those running Windows 2000 or Windows XP Pro on the NTFS File System.

The NTFS File system comes with security built-in meaning that access to files, folders and programs can be limited. This is precisely the method which we will use to stop these pesky programs from loading.

Open up a Windows Explorer window and navigate to where these programs reside. For “Windows Messenger”, it should be in your “C:\Program Files\Messenger” folder and is called “msmsgs.exe”. Right click on the file and click on the “Security Tab”. The security settings will show. Basically you want to apply the “Deny” access for all users and administrators. Do this by selecting each group and then clicking on the “Deny” checkboxes. When finished, click on the OK and you’re done. The next time you restart the system, this program will be denied access to run. There are many who will rightly point out to me that there is an easier way to do this and that is to run Windows Messenger, navigate to the Tools menu and turn off the startup option. I have done this in the past but find that when a service pack or patch is loaded, that this program sometimes notoriously starts up again, so the Deny option works permanntly. Windows Messenger is a useless program and is superseeded by the MSN Messenger program.

Repeat the same for the Quicktim Task program which you can find by doing a search for “qttask.exe”. You should find it in the “C:\Program Files\Quicktime” folder.

You can deny access to any program that you don’t want to run. This is a powerful method of controlling your environment. It can be reverted by unchecking the Deny boxes at any time.

For those running Windows XP Pro, by default the Security system is disabled. This is easily fixed by opening up “My Computer” and selecting “Tools, Folder Options, View”. The item either last on the list or close to last on the list will read something like “Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended)”. Uncheck the box and click OK and your system will now have full security settings on all file or folders. The properties window of any file will then have the “Security” tab.

There is also the possibility that you have a Windows XP Pro system running the FAT32 file system instead of NTFS. The FAT32 file system does not have the in-built security of NTFS and will not allow you to allocate Deny permissions on files, folders or programs. You can however, easily convert the FAT32 file system to NTFS though using tools in XP. To find out how, do a Google search for “convert FAT32 to NTFS”.

I wish you all the best with your computing experiences.

Good Morning Mr. Sampson. Please type in you Personal Identification Number

XXXXXX

Sorry, Mr. Forgetful Idiot! That is not the correct password. Please slap yourself three times around your head and then apply for a new card and number – we are keeping this one.

Don’t you just hate them? Passwords give you access to almost every walk of life. They are now the keys to doors that would otherwise violently slam in your face and tell you to XXXXXX, which they often do if you key the wrong password in anyway.

The first passwords to really come on the scene (apart from those required to gain entry into the back room of the Mafia club) where those at the ATM machines. A four-digit PIN number has to be entered before money can be withdrawn and for those with one account and a pass number drawn from an important date, no problem existed.

Then your one account became two as the building societies introduced ATM machines, then your savings account at the post office and then to beat it all Internet Banking came on the scene. Passwords are now required for Banking, shopping on the web, switch cards, visa cards, store cards, petrol cards and any other card that you may have.

Passwords are also required for so many of activities one does these days – especially on the Internet. Get a web site and you have real problems! I have an email account with yahoo, one with AOL and others with a dozen other companies (they were all free at the time) and then I have a web site (well three in fact) and they all require passwords. And then the problems really start when you try marketing and joining discussion groups on the web, etc. Wow, each one requires a USERNAME, each one requires a password and many of them also ask you to have a ‘handle’ – a name to be recognized by others. Not your real name of course!

I have at the last count 362 different and current usernames, 463 different and current pass codes or passwords and 152 different and often forgotten handles.

Shocked? I am when I put it like that. I have actually filled my brain up with a whole useless pile of words and junk that could otherwise be used to remember all the telephone numbers in my local directory or better still to learn Japanese.

We need these passwords and codes and things. Without them doors are shut and we become isolated from the world around us. So we have them and need them and the first codes are easy as we pull out of the hat some remembered birthday or event and use that with success.

But then companies and “bad people” started to find these codes by researching your past and then gaining access to your life. So we were all warned not to use a date from our past and instead pick a number or word that had no meaning but one that we would remember. A word that we can remember but one that has no significance is almost impossible – why do they say these things? We get past all of that and force our brains to remember some unimportant word and to regurgitate it when required, like at the ATM machine or when checking your email account. That is all fine and well, when only one or two codes are required to be remembered.

Oh, and one must not forget that warnings came out from all corners of security that using the same password for more than one service could cause extreme problems and a heyday for the opportunist who is looking for fools.

Those with a few more (like me) do have serious problems in life. I can maybe remember them all and regurgitate them when required – a no easy feat – but I can never get the correct code for the required service. I stand at the ATM and punch in my pin code, it tells me to go away and if I put the wrong code in again it will eat my card up. I then realize that the code that I am punching into the pad is actually that for my gym club after hours access! So what is my number for this bank and this account? Which number could it be out of a possible 463 and even then have I got it right the right way round?

Life does get complicated. Some people started to write their numbers down, knowing that they would forget them in time. “Well, for heavens sake I only use that pass code once a year – how am I supposed to remember it” can be heard ringing out all over the world. So gentlemen, ladies and others all opt to secretly write their codes in some weird and wonderful place that they think others will never find. Codes are pasted under ornaments, on the walls behind beds and on little scraps of paper all over the house and in drawers and closets and boxes in every conceivable place. Codes and passwords written down can be found everywhere one would look.

Some people then acknowledged the fact that, thieves and robbers (and friends and family) can find these numbers and use them with the cards that they have appropriated. They can probably find them easier than you can when one day you need to use that password yourself. They find them easily whilst you would have completely forgotten where you had hidden or written down the access code. Yes, writing the passwords down on pieces of paper and hiding them in what you thought was a suitable place is no longer acceptable. So what is the options?

Ah, why not encode the code in a series of other codes using a system that only you know how to decode. A great idea!

Around the world at any one moment in time there are hundreds of thousands of people scratching their heads over a pile of numbers and letters. Thousands of amateur coders having failed in their missions and are unable to decode the code that they had intricately designed all that time ago. The code of codes that was the answer to all robbers and others from finding out what your passwords are is now a mystery to you. Yes, take it from me that 99% of those that hide their passwords in a longer text of letters or numbers fail in their attempt to decode them one month later.

So where are we? We have hundreds of passwords to remember, they cannot be drawn from significant dates or events, we cannot use the same ones for more than one service, we cannot write them down and encoding them is just a waste of time. Ouch, not much choice in life. It looks as if we are all condemned to having a section of our brains filled with a succession of numbers and words that must be instantly available upon request.

For those with computers a solution became possible with the advent of the “password program”. A clever piece of software that could remember all of those nasty passwords and usernames: to regurgitate them upon request. But then of course hackers and those unseen computer information thieves found ways to gain access to your computer through the telephone line, enter that marvelous piece of software and to rapidly use all of those codes that you had hidden away in the internals. And you, unawares of this entry into your private domain, find your emails have all been read by some unknown, that your bank account shows that you have fully utilized the 5000 pound overdraft and that you now owe Visa and American Express some amazing amount of hard currency that you do not have – and never will. Oh, and do not think for a minute that your store cards are free of purchases or that your partner is not going to find out about the secret email accounts you have setup!

In short, this piece of software is no longer a viable solution for those with something to lose. It is not suitable for anyone – in other words!

So what can we do? Remember them is all that you can do. Try and remember all of those passwords and numbers and codes in some sort of system in your heads. Life though is not that easy as certain recommendations have been coming out for us to enhance our own security further as nowadays hackers can now enter your computer and read off the pass codes as you tap them in. So even if you follow all of the security advice that is issued your accounts and your life can still be invaded easily and without second thought.

The answer? Well, all you have to do is make sure that you change all your codes at least once a month.

Impossible you say? Well, I must admit the thought of having just committed to memory over 600 passwords, numbers and codes and then having to throw them all out and input new ones every month is not my idea of fun. Impossible in fact!

Two thoughts to leave you with. Most people who use others passwords and codes to gain access to their accounts have in fact been given to them. The majority of theft from ATM machines and banks is through friends giving their supposed friends the number of their account in a loose moment. It is not as one would assume from people who have stolen the number from the hidden pocket in your wallet or the hacker through the telephone cable. These occur but not to such a great extent as those who give their passwords to others in a moment of stupidity.

Thinking about it, finger print identity is not such a bad thing after all. Would make life one hell of a lot easier! Just put your thumb on a little touch pad and you gain instant access to everything. And you only require one of them, you have no need to remember where you put it, if somebody steals it you will notice immediately and there is no need to change it every month.

Move on technology as at present my head is filled to busting with useless information!

Beyond a doubt you have been the subject of adware if you are connected to the internet for any length of time. Adware is annoying and problematic. It can really get in the way of you enjoying the time you spend online. But, adware can be more dangerous than you think, especially if it turns out to be spyware and not adware. But, regardless of what it is, you want it off of your computer and getting that to happen can be somewhat difficult in itself.

Adware is software that is downloaded to your computer without your realizing it. Adware usually enables pop up ads as well as banner ads to be displayed on your computer. The major problem with adware is that too much of it can cause your computer to run slowly and eventually not run correctly.

Adware is often used interchangeably with spyware. The difference between the two is serious though. In spyware, you are not downloading ads but you are unknowingly downloading software that can track what you are doing online as well as gather and send information such as personal information to others online. You won’t even know it is there and doing this either. Spyware is much more of a security risk for you, but both adware and spyware are annoying and spell trouble to anyone that has them on their computer.

Do You Have It?

Do you have adware on your computer? If you are online for any length of time, use email, browse web pages, download things, or open files, you probably do have adware. Another sign that you have things infecting your computer is that the computer often begins to run slower. Think of it this way. If you had to run two programs and four adware programs at once, you would work slower at each task because it is harder to manage that many items at once. Sometimes, though, if you have too much adware or spyware on your computer, it can cause it to crash or become very difficult to use.

Getting Rid Of It All!

One of the great things about the internet is that there are any number of solutions to help you get rid of your problem. For example, if you have these adware or spyware problems, you have the ability to have them removed. There are a number of ways in which you can do this. Here, we’ll touch on several of them. What you use will be determined by how bad your adware or spyware problem is, how much of a budget you have, and what level of expertise that you have when it comes to computer literacy. Also, we will talk about how you can safely protect yourself and your computer from additional instances of adware and spyware getting onto your computer.

Your Options

 First of all, you can always take it in and have it taken care of for you. Of course, this is likely to the be the most expensive way to take care of your adware problem, but if you don’t want the hassle and want to insure it is taken care of, this is the way to go.

 There other solutions though. For example, there is a wealth of programs available online that can help you. These programs will run as a virus scan would. They pick up things that look like they could be adware or even spyware. After the scan is over, you can choose to allow the program or to block them. This can help you immensely. They are fairly inexpensive and offer you the ability to upgrade them as needed as well. Most will work on both spyware and adware.

 Your next line of defense is to use an adware and spyware blocker. These too are similar to a virus program. When they are turned on and working, they provide you with protection. If you unknowingly attempt to download something that seems to be adware or spyware, they will alert you so that you can decide whether or not you want the adware program on your computer. These too are set up to continuously upgrade assuming you get the right ones.

 Another option that you can use is through your internet service provider. Some of the companies out there now are offering adware and spyware protection programs to their customers. Assuming they are updated and run effectively, this can be an option for you to consider as well.

The point is that you just do not need adware and spyware holding you back. The good news is that you can get rid of it and keep it gone by using effective software and by being careful when you are on the web.

Kelly and I have a great relationship, I’m grateful to say, but
I’m still the mother-in-law. If you are one, or have one, you’ll
probably agree it’s a relationship that requires finesse.
“Finesse” is another word for “emotional intelligence.”

All those mother-in-law jokes are out there for a reason. I’d
say it’s hardest to be the mother of the son, but you might
disagree! Anyway, Kelly is married to my only son, and the
mother of my only grandchildren. There are times when I feel
very vulnerable in that situation, having to ask permission and
all.

My granddaughter’s now old enough to come for visits. When I
call to invite her, it’s been hard to come up with just the
right way to do it. After all, Meg is “hers” and not “mine.”

Recently I read an article about something called “anodyne
therapy.” You know how when they’re getting ready to stick a
needle in your thumb they say, “This is going to sting a little
bit”? Well, in anodyne therapy, they say, “Notice how quickly
your thumb becomes numb.”

“Anodyne” means “serving to assuage pain, or not likely to
offend or arouse tensions.”

When I received an email from my daughter-in-law talking about
all the “projects” she had going on, I figured out a better way
to ask her. Kelly’s always got something going on - painting,
wallpapering, gardening - and of course they’re harder to do
with the little ones underfoot. Lately I call and say, “Want to
have some time to do that wallpapering? How about if I take Meg
for a couple of days?”

This takes the focus off what’s being given up, and places it on
something Kelly really wants - more time to do her projects.
Anodyne - not likely to offend or arouse tensions. That’s EQ!

You’ve downloaded buttons and horizontal lines and other good stuff from the
web — but — it’s not all exactly what you want. Besides, you have some photos
that would spruce up the site, and you want to feel as if some part of the
graphics were your own. You can do it. Gather your photos. Draw a palm tree
in your paint program. Put them on the web.

This is not a comprehensive graphics course. We’re talking basic, simple —
words you want to hear. Two of these words are acronyms: jpg and gif. What
they mean, you don’t care. Just remember them.

a. Use jpg when your graphic is a photograph or like a photograph.
b. Use gif for everything else.

Easy, huh? Onward!

First, check out your scanner software. Read the manual or open up your
scanner software and start pushing buttons. Somewhere, you should be able to
choose the gif or jpg file format to save your scan in. It could be under
“Save As” or “Export,” or it could be in the box where you set up the
parameters before you scan. Experiment. Learn how to create the file format
you want before you go on.

We’re going to start with jpg and photos. Computer monitors only show at a
resolution of 72. So find out where you set the scanning resolution, and put
it at 72. If you print out your 72 scan, it will be terrible, so don’t print
it. On the web, it will be beautiful. Trust me.

Then, check your photo size. A two inch by three inch photo on a web page is
big! Shrink your photo either when or after you scan it. You’ll have to
experiment with what size you’ll want on your page.

You’ve scanned your photo at 72, and got it to the size you want. You must
now “Save As” or “Export” it as a jpg. You will probably have the option of
choosing “high,” “medium,” or “low” quality for your jpg. If at all
possible, save it as “low.” If numbers are given, try “3.” . Use the lowest
quality or lowest number that you can and still have an acceptable photo.
Which brings us to an axiom of web graphics design:

All graphics should be created in the smallest possible file size!

Smaller graphics files mean faster loading when a viewer opens your page. If
the loading takes too long, the viewer will not stay, much less buy
something. Smaller graphics files means a smaller storage needs for your
page, important when you are allotted limited server space. Sometimes web
browsers balk at loading huge graphics. Keep it small. Avoid headaches.

Moving on to gif files. Gif is used for graphics that have areas of flat
color, like the palm tree you made in your paint program. Read the manual,
and check out your paint program. You might have a paint program from which
you can save or export gif files.

If your paint program won’t export the art work as gif, no problem. Print
your art work out at a high resolution on good paper and scan it at 72, size
it, and save or export it as gif 89a. If your software just says “gif,” I
think you can safely assume it is gif89a unless your software is very old.

There is one important distinction between gif and jpg. In jpg, you must be
sure that your photo fills the picture window after you scan. If there is
white space around or on any side of the photo, crop it off, or it will show
up on the web. But in gif89a, the background of your picture will be
transparent. So, if you scan your palm tree on its white background and save
it as gif, what will appear on the web is just the palm tree. jpg would show
a palm tree on a white rectangle.

While saving or exporting in jpg, you had a choice of quality for your
finished product. In gif, you have no quality choice, but you may have a
choice of the number of colors to be used. The fewer the colors, the smaller
the file. So again, experiment with saving or exporting your artwork with
different numbers of colors until your arrive at a satisfactory graphic with
as few colors as possible.

There are really just three things you need to know:

1. jpg is for graphics that are photographs or like photographs.
2. gif is for everything else.
3. All graphics should be created in the smallest possible file size.

Got it? Go create!

Are you suffering from the gnawing nagging feeling of overwhelming unsettled emotional discomfort? Is it effecting your self-esteem and motivation?

Most are familiar with the general anxiety disorders that can be triggered by fears, impending doom, obsessive-compulsive, post-traumatic stress and more. But what about other not so obvious things that raise apprehension and uneasiness that you can’t explain?

What is at the root of your anxiety symptom? It may be buried deeply in your subconscious, but most likely you are just not currently aware of the cause. There are many possible things that can be the source of the disharmony leading to undesirable emotional feelings. What do you feel that you can’t cope with? Does it relate to the general condition of your life?

What if you are feeling anxious because deep inside you know that you are not thinking and acting in ways that support your core self? You may not even be consciously aware of what is truly important to you, but your incongruent behavior is causing internal friction that your emotions are responding to. Not being aware of why you feel the way you do supports the anxiety, you feel powerless and unsure. But why are you uncertain?

It is normally based on your perception and subsequent interpretation of something.
There can be some subtle things that are the cause of stress and anxiety.

Here are 5 places to look for some possible root causes of your anxiety symptom:

1) Personal integrity is compromised –

Are some of your thoughts and behavior not in alignment with your most important values? This situation can be tough to detect until you look for it, as you may not be clearly aware of your deep values. If there is a conflict between your behavior and your deepest core values you will feel emotionally unsettled. Your thoughts and actions must be congruent with your deepest values in order to feel harmonious.

2) Less than honest interactions –

Are you less than honest and forthright in your interactions with others? If you are living even small lies you may be fooling some of the people some of the time, but never yourself. Deep within, you know what’s going on and your inner self will let you know when something is not right. However, if you are not aware of your inner thoughts and feelings you may not be sure what your anxious feelings are based on.

3) Cheating Your Potential –

Are you not utilizing all of your potential? Do you make excuses for not using all your potential? Are you full of reasons and justifications in an attempt to feel right about your less than full effort? You know this inside; you can’t cheat yourself and get away with it. When you are consciously not aware of it you can feel out of control without knowing why. Not utilizing your full potential can be stressful and anxiety symptoms will come from your feeling not in control.

4) Stuck in the Procrastination trap –

You know that you are not getting done what you want to get done and what you are capable of doing, but can’t seem to do anything about it. Also you become unsure that you can do anything about it since you have not been able to up to this point. When you get stuck in this cycle the frustration with yourself can turn into anxiety, as you don’t know what is behind it, plus worrying whether you can ever change it.

5) Fearing your future without knowing why –

This relates to the first four items, in that if any of the above conditions are present you can easily feel unsure of your future. Facing the future with self confidence requires that you be well grounded in who you are and in touch with your potential. Not being secure and feeling unsure whether you can do anything about it is stressful and can lead to anxiety.

Stress and anxiety can go hand in hand as you are continuously aware of your feelings of uncertainty and the resulting fears. It can even be the cause of depression if the situation seems like it’s hopeless.

The key is to root out these base causes of your emotional feelings, reassess them and change your perception to better align with the life you want.

Anxiety symptoms are red flags your inner referee is throwing up to notify you that something is not right, out of balance. If you let it go, just like a physical ailment, it gets worse and becomes more and more established. These self-concepts originated from some perceived need to protect or satisfy in some way. Since you are feeling unsettled, they are likely no longer supporting your best interest. Your inner self is making you aware of an opportunity to change for the better.

To discover what the sources of your stress and anxiety are and what were the benefits, ask yourself some probing questions to peel open your thoughts. Once your thoughts are revealed, then reassess and establish a new perception and interpretation of the situation or idea.

Start with a blank tablet and a pen or pencil. Get yourself calm and relaxed. Write the first question at the top, then without thinking write what ever thoughts come up without analyzing or judging — just write. For example –

~Why am I feeling this way?

~What is my biggest fear in life?

~What is the worse that could happen regarding this fear?

~Why do I fear this?

~How can I think differently about this that will better serve me today?

~What am I most uncertain about today?

~Why am I uncertain about this?

~What benefit do or did I get from thinking this way?

~Do I need to continue thinking this way?

~What can I learn from this?

~What is a better way of looking at this?

Asking questions of yourself may not be easy at first, as your mind is not accustomed to thinking in this fashion. But with diligence, you will learn to allow your thinking to open up revealing much more about yourself than you were previously aware of, but it’s there.

Also useful method to help to reveal your inner thoughts is to meditate on it. Meditation helps to calm and quiet the surface chatter that keeps you distracted and separated from your inner thoughts, allowing for their rediscovery.

Another beneficial self-improvement activity is to clarify, establish and define a solid foundation for yourself. Just as a tall building cannot be stable without a strong foundation, neither can a successful life. You can solidify your place in the universe, discover your purpose, align with intention, and establish a vision and a personal mission. You can clarify your core values, your potential, your strengths and how you will support your purpose.

With establishing a solid foundation for yourself you will elevate your self-concept, self-esteem, self-confidence and self-motivation –it’s how to relieve stress, anxiety and depression. You will be able to grow and change without excessive fear, doubt and worry.

Continuous self-improvement with a positive attitude leads to happiness, positive thinking and unlimited possibility.

How a Plasma Display Works

Plasma Televisions are made up of plasma gas which is Xenon and Neon Gas. These
gases are placed in tiny cells or pixels across the screen. The interior of the pixels
and sub-pixels are coated with phosphor. Each pixel has three sub-pixel
representing a primary color (red, green and blue). These cells (pixels) are contained
between two pieces of glass. Connected to each plate is an electrode, these
electrodes extend the whole length of the plates of glass forming a grid on both
plates of glass. These electrodes are also connected to a computer in the display. To
create an image the computer sends a current on the electrode and the
corresponding position on the grid to charge the gases in the pixels which causes
the gases to become ionized which in turn depending on the length of time the
current in on causes the gases to give off an ultraviolet ray. This ultraviolet ray then
causes the phosphor coating of the pixels to light up the appropriate color. With all
of these cells or pixels lighting up at the same time they create a smooth image.

Advantages of a Plasma Display

The advantages of this technology is that since the whole screen can be lit up at the
same time and every pixel can be used and “on” we get very smooth images. Also
since each pixel in the screen is lit independently the images are very bright and can
be seen from wide angles. Finally the biggest advantage of Plasma Televisions is
they can be made very large and extremely thin with most displays these days
measuring no more than 4 cm in depth. The most common display size these days
is the 42″ with 50″ - 60″ at the high end, this is not up to Projection TV’s yet but the
quality in image that is gained and the fact that the screens are very thin makes
them my choice for best display at this time. The largest Plasma screen in the world
was just shown at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas. It measured
103″ and was made by Matsushita Electrical Industries (Panasonic). Samsung is
currently in second place with their 102″ inch Plasma Panel. For the consumer the
largest panel you can buy is made by Samsung measuring 80″ and costing a
whopping $130,000. Imagine what the wife would say if you brought that bad boy
home.

The only major con’s with Plasma displays would be their price compared to a
Projection screens. Compared to LCD’s Plasma’s are much cheaper per inch. There is
a myth going around that plasma displays do not last long and will need to be
replaced quite often. Although they do eventually loose their brightness and the
colors will fade when the half-life of the gases are reached, most displays these
days are rated at half lives of 50,000 hours. With normal viewing of 4 hours a day
this would not be reached for 35 years and at 8 hours a day right around 15 years
the set will last. So unless you watch television 24 hours a day expect these displays
to last you many years.

PRO’S:

large screen sizes

price per inch is reasonable

superb color reproduction

CON’S:

price compared to projections is high

power consumption

some models make a buzzing noise (especially when display whites or light grays)

How many business owners use DSL, cable or other fast modem
hookup to get on the internet? I use a 56k modem myself, but
because I test most of my programming online, I am on 10 to 16
hours a day.

Hackers like to get into sites that are online all the time. If
you have a super fast modem like DSL or the like, and you leave
your computer on, your online. Hackers like to get into your
computer, get your financial information, plant programs to hack
into other sites without a trace, or just wreck havoc on your
computer.

Here is another scenario, Do you use programs like Netscape,
Go!zilla, or Real Player? Did you know that they contain
programming to send information from your computer to their
server? These are not the only programs with spyware built in.
So I’ve been told, they can send every program you’ve downloaded
and what address you got it from.

Believe what you wish, but I believe that anything can happen.
What can we do to prevent any of the above or worse from
happening? I’ve been studying this.

Let’s look at some sites that rummage through your computer and
show you what they see. What we are going to learn is how
vulnerable we are.

http://www.secure-me.net/secureme_go http://grc.com
http://www.sdesign.com/securitytest/index.html
http://www.hackerwhacker.com/

After these sites have ransacked your computer, let’s see what
we can do to prevent it from happening again. A good fire wall
will be a good start. The fire wall I prefer is ZoneAlarm from
ZoneLabs. These fire walls are free to the public, although if
used for business, they ask for a small payment. The average
prices I’ve seen are around $20, but compare for yourself.

http://www.electrocities.com/nukenabber.htm
http://www.sygate.com/

I’ve found a program that will shut web pages down that use
cookies and tracking programs. It will log and keep track of
sites that want to keep track of you. Said better, you can see
who’s been watching you. The program is called IDcide. I really
like the play on words. Find this program at:

http://www.idcide.com

Do you want to know what software is telling on you? This web
site will help you learn this.

http://www.spychecker.com/

Find the programs you like, some of these sites may give you
other ideas to choose from. Install what you like, then go back
to the first list, the sites that ripped through your computer.
Try them again. What happened? What I hope I did was open some
minds to the possibilities that can and are happening on the
internet.

It is my belief that businesses want to keep their trade
secrets… secret.
