Everybody does it and everyone hates you when you do it. To minimize the risks for you and everyone around you, we suggest that you buy a headset immediately. Do not delay! Driving a car and talking on a cell phone is dangerous.

You’ve seen the signs! Goofy behavior such as speeding up or down for no accountable reason, weaving all over their lane of traffic, not stopping at stop signs or stopping too long, gong too fast or too slow and a host of other strange, dumb and erratic movements. Stop the madness!

The headset you select should give you hands free cell phone operation. This will allow you to give more attention to your driving. Headsets should be standard equipment for anyone who spends a lot of time on their vehicles. If everyone had these items, lives could be saved.

While you’re at it, you should also purchase a car holder for your phone. Place the mount on your car dashboard within easy reach of the driver. This is for the driver’s convenience and not for passengers. If you prefer it to be on the left side where you reach it best, then go ahead and put it there.

Of course, the safest place to talk on the phone while you’re in your car is usually at the side of the road. However, that’s not always the safest place nor is it always convenient. At least minimize the risks and get these accessories now.

Your passengers and the other drivers on the road will appreciate these purchases.

There are also many other handy addons and doodads for cell phones. Women will especially appreciate a pouch that they attach to their purse or anywhere else they want. Often times you’ll see a woman frantically rummaging through their purses for their ringing cell phone. Men seem to gravitate toward holders on their belt. These holders also offer some protection against scratches and breakage.

If style is a priority, then check out faceplates. There are faceplates in all colors and styles. You might even be able to match your faceplate with your wallpaper. You could even synchronize your ringtone to the same theme.

Less glamorous but just as helpful could be a backup battery. However, this is becoming less and less useful as cell phone batteries improve and stay charged for longer periods of time. You’d probably be better off to have a car adapter which you can use to preserve and recharge your battery. If you are the forgetful type you should consider a battery backup. But then you’d probably forget to plugin the backup in anyway.

Your local discount store may have some of the things you need. Although they will most likely have the best prices, their selection is also probably quite limited. You can also buy accessories from the same place you bought your phone. They however, will also probably have the highest price.

The internet is ideal place to find the largest selection at the best price. With the wide variety of phones on the marketplace today, it’s hard for anyone else to be able to stock that much merchandise and maintain a reasonable price.

At freecellularphoneco.com you can browse though online lists from competitive vendors. They have a least 10,000 items in their lists, with many more available via search. You can also use this as a resource for price comparison against your local sources.

Cell phones accessories can be practical, safe and fun. You’ve spent a lot of money on these mobile phones; you might as well enjoy them to their fullest. With the availability of all these options, you have no excuse for not having a headset. You’ll be glad you did!

The FBI uses Criminal Profilers to narrow down suspects…..

Hospitals and clinics use heart profilers to diagnose and treat heart ailments…..

And now, it appears the cell phone industry is getting into the act of profiling its subscribers.

M:Metrics, a company that measures consumer consumption of mobile content and applications,
has recently released a benchmark study to help determine the typical users of each major carrier.

“Our data shows that each carrier attracts its own demographic, which correlates with the consumption of
mobile content,” responds Seamus McAteer, M:Medtric’s senior analyst and chief product architect.

In other words, M:Metrics feels their studies show a pattern in the typical wireless user’s age and income, compared to how often mobile content is downloaded from the internet.

The Study’s Finding on Major Carriers:

  • Both Sprint and T-Mobile have the highest percentage of young carriers between the ages of 18 to
    34. This age group is also responsible for downloading the most mobile content. Both carriers showed
a higher than average content consumption, particularly in the download of games and photo/text messaging.

For instance, if you are a male, in your late teens, and frequently downloads games on your cell phone,
you’re twice as likely to have chosen Sprint as your phone’s service carrier.

  • Nextel users are even more defined. The study showed the majority of subscribers to this carrier are
between the ages of 35 and 44, and male. Nextel was also the carrier with the highest percentage of
users with household annual incomes in excess of $100,000.

Surprisingly, the study also showed users of Nextel were four times more likely to have their cell phone bills paid by
    their employer.

  • If your a Verizon or Cingular user, chances are you’re 45 years old, or older. In fact, according to the M:Metrics
survey, 55.8% of these network subscribers are retirement age, or older.

Generally, users of Verizon or Cingular are much less likely to use even the most basic services. The study
showed only a little more than 10% of older users sent text messages in the three month period of the study.

The Study’s Findings on Prepaid Carriers:

Tracfone and Virgin Mobile, both prepaid cell phone service providers, were also named in the study.
The survey showed subscribers of the two prepaid networks spent roughly the same amount
on calling plans, and had simular household incomes.

But, the survey showed there was a vast difference in the users of the two networks. Virgin Mobile’s phones
are geared towards young teens, generally 13 to 17 years old. While Tracfone tends to draw the older user (ages 45 and older)
who use the prepaid phone for emergencies.

Virgin Mobile users also tend to download much more mobile applications than Tracfone subscribers. In a typical
month, only about 2% of Tracfone users opt to download ringtones, compared to about 20% of Virgin Mobile
customers.

The terms Arts and Crafts and Mission Style are often used synonymously today. They refer to a style of home design and furnishings emphasizing natural materials, especially wood, and showcasing a pronounced geometry in the design. Their tremendous revival in popularity stems largely from their association with hand-crafted elements (though many knock-offs are manufactured by machine), a rarity in this technologically advanced age. The pieces offer an heirloom quality and a patina that deepens with age. Arts and Crafts furnishings and interiors are also typically very durable and classic with a timeless appeal. They suit today’s desire to simplify and get back to basics. Arts and Crafts interiors are an ideal marriage of function and aesthetic; spaces are designed to work for those living there. To create your own Arts and Crafts interior, there are several elements to consider, both in materials and design.

The materials of an Arts and Crafts interior, while not limited to nature, emphasize wood, stone, glass (made from sand), ceramic tiles (made from minerals/earth), and textiles (using wool, cotton, or linen fibers, and, of course, leather). Much of the visual pattern comes from the grain of the wood selected. Traditionally oak was used, but currently natural cherry is frequently enjoyed. The oak tends to have a golden brown gleam, while the cherry is redder. Both darken naturally with age, which is to be expected.

Flooring, all architectural trim/molding, doors, stair rails and stiles, and exposed structural supports are all typically wood, oak being most prevalent. Waxed or oil finishes prevail. Joints are pegged, or hand-crafted metal hardware is used. Door knobs, cabinet pulls and the like are again hand-crafted wrought iron or bronze in black, umber, or verdigris. Many are square or rectangular shaped and are hand hammered. For a lighter look, some homeowners today are opting for a soft brushed pewter or nickel finish instead. Once you have the guidelines, you can bend them to suit. If an alternative to a wood floor is desired, tile or slate would be appropriate substitutes. The tile should be large and laid in a linear pattern, not on the diagonal.

To balance and complement the visual depth of the wood, walls are often treated with a textured paint or plastered. (The old bungalows have original plaster.) A good bet is the river rock finish that Ralph Lauren paint provides. Paint schemes bear an influence from nature with goldenrod yellows, burnt sienna browns, cimmaron and Indian reds, sage and moss greens, and a neutral palette of earthy tans, toasts, and beiges. The overall feeling has a harmony, continuity, with all elements working together, none upstaging the other. It is about creating an organic home, one that works within its environment and makes the most of its surroundings both outside and inside.

Fireplaces have wood or stone mantels, with stone, ceramic or occasionally brick surrounds. The wood is again oak with a golden stain, usually waxed or rubbed, not polyurethaned. Satin or matte finishes rule. Stone is field stone– stacked dry or with mortar, it presents a terrific textural visual. River rock may be used instead and the round smooth stones provide a counterpoint to the rectilinear geometry otherwise present. Ceramic tiles will typically have a motif from nature, perhaps a leaf or acorn, or be an iridescent finish. Today glass tiles are also used to great advantage. Brick, when employed, is smooth faced and laid in clean horizontal bands. Again, one of the clear features of an Arts and Crafts interior is the linear quality. The feeling that the house is part of a bigger view, part of the horizon, is all an effort to be from and of the earth.

Historically, many of the Arts and Crafts and Mission homes sported art glass windows, or at least many panes. This enabled windows to be left uncovered and still appear decorative. Today, art glass windows can be cost prohibitive except in select areas, so if treatment is desired for either privacy, light, or heat control, simpler is better. This translates to either plain Roman shades, silhouettes, wood blinds, or panels on either tabs or rings on a decorative rod (wood or wrought iron) with finials. If tiebacks are desired consider sisal tassels, simple and bold, or a band of the same fabric as the drapery. No trim or other decorative element is required. Fabric patterns may herald nature, such as a leaf print, or be based in geometry. There is a wide range on the market today including historical prints by William Morris and designs by Frank Lloyd Wright. The same may also be found in wall covering, though use it sparingly as it is often busy and distracting. Arts and Crafts and Mission Style today both represent a desire for a wholesome, hearty lifestyle, a return to yesterday’s values.

Furnishings in the Arts and Crafts home are again wood, occasionally with a wrought iron or ceramic tile accent. Glass is rarely used. Tables, being functional as well as good looking, often have at least a drawer and a shelf for storage. Shapes are squares, rectangles and octagons. Today more rounds are available. Again, the geometry created by edges is most apparent. Sofas and chairs are often wood backed with exposed wood arms and cushions that can be readily cleaned or changed out depending on the season. Flexibility and adaptability are prime features. Mission style goes a step further and often offers sofas or chairs with a deep wood shelf surrounding them acting as the arm and a table (Frank Lloyd Wright design), which gives the illusion of a built-in piece. Leather is frequently used or fabrics in natural fibers such as cotton, linen, or wool. Rich colors and geometric or patterns drawn from nature abound. The most significant interest comes from the combination of elements, again, no one piece dominating. Busy patterns are used sparingly, increasing longevity and flexibility of the furnishings. Resources for furnishings include Stickley, American Impressions by Ethan Allen, and Cotswald Furnishings, a superior resource for hand-crafted furnishings and more in Atlanta.

Lighting in an Arts and Crafts or Mission home is critical, especially with all the dark woods and depth of color schemes popular. While ceiling lights, including recessed, can give a good general light, it is far more effective and pleasing to adopt a wealth of luminaries. Torchieres (floor lamps that give uplight, and are best placed in corners) can provide valuable general lighting, while table lamps and floor lamps provide invitation and welcome. Accent lighting can be done with mantel lamps, sconces, and dresser lamps. The two most common types of lamps are the mica and metal designs (the body of the lamp being hammered bronze or copper, the shade a sheet of mica) and the art glass lamps with wood or art glass bases and shades of glass in geometric patterns and a squared coolie shape. Other lighting options include a wealth of reproduction lighting through several lighting sources such as Arroyo Craftsmen and Yamagiwa. (They are available through designers and have an outstanding line of Frank Lloyd Wright designs.)

Accents, accessories, and artwork should be kept to a minimum to allow for a fuller appreciation of the architecture of the home and materials of nature showcased. This is a good chance to provide balance to the predominance of wood with elements in glass, ceramics, and metal. Both bowls and vessels are readily available in all materials mentioned here. Iridescent ware in both ceramics and glass provides an airy complement to the weight and depth of the wood.

As technology expands to give us more and better ways to communicate and stay in contact with others, it becoming more and more crucial to protect our devices from everyday wear and tear and the punishment inherent to specific applications. Increasingly, Treo cases are being designed that combine safety, security, access, functionality, affordability and style. Three new types of Treo cases—Boa, SkinTight and Magnum—blend all of these qualities.

The Boa vertical case uses superior materials and workmanship, in conjunction with hand-selected, premium materials. These beautiful, functional and durable cases have a magnetic closure and a magnetic case that can be snapped off to make it into a quick-access holster. The eight-position, locking, 360-degree swivel belt clip allows for secure handling, while the material still offers plenty of protection. With a sophisticated, sharp, modern design and options for black, brown or pink coloring, the boa cases boast stylish qualities and features not available in any other cases. To sweeten the deal, a matching magnetic money clip/key ring is included with these luxurious cases.

SkinTight rubberized cases are sleek, functional and protective, guarding against scratches, dings and other damage. The rubbery texture offers a good feel for your hand and also ensures that your device won’t slide off the dashboard. The case has a sturdy, detachable holster with a 360-degree swivel clip and strategic cutouts that allow access to all of your device functions. A flip-up, hard-plastic screen cover combines screen protection with easy access. The molded, ergonomic grips improve thumb typing on the exposed keyboard. Select blue, clear or black colors and eliminate bulk and inconvenience with a SkinTight case.

Constructed of lightweight, highly tensile magnesium alloy, the Magnum cases are great for applications where maximum protection is required. Magnesium is 20 times stronger than the traditionally used ABS plastic and 37 percent lighter than aluminum. The interior is lined with black neoprene to serve as a shock absorber and a removable belt clip and post system ensures secure fastening. A perfectly clear plastic window protects the display, while cutouts allow access to the main navigation and application buttons. The stylish, functional Magnum case just may be the safest, most rugged Treo case on the market.

It’s true.

Your ex could have viewed your myspace profile 44 times last week.

Your manager could be viewing your profile on a daily basis.

You could have some crazy cyberstalker that you don’t know about.

Unfortunately you may never know, because Myspace doesn’t allow you to see who viewed your page. That was until a little site popped up a while ago by the name of Profilesnoop.com.

Profilesnoop.com’s motto is “Snoop on them while they snoop on you”. How many of us haven’t secretly viewed the pages of our exes, enemies, old high school crushes, co-workers, etc.? We all do it.

Profilesnoop.com provided you with a code to input into your myspace profile. This code would track all visitors that viewed your site, literally snapping a photo of them When you signed on your profilesnoop.com account, it had all that information neatly summarized and ready for you to view.

I was on the of the lucky ones who actually got to use it before it was shut down by Myspace. For about a week, I had this wonderful little tool on my profile. It was just a bit of code, entered in the “Who I’d like to meet” section, not visible to anyone but myself.

It captured photos of anyone who viewed my profile, along with the date, time and IP address. I would automatically be re-directed to a person’s mypsace profile by clicking on their photo. Some were my own friends, others were a huge surprise. I found out that I was getting regular views from the last guy I dated and his on-again/off-again girlfriend. Who knew?

Of course, it was too good to last. Only five days after I registered with the site, the forums were buzzing with talk about the code being stripped from their profiles, along with all the text and photos in their “Who I’d like to meet” section. Apparently, the code is in violation of myspace’s privacy policy.

By the next day, it was gone from my profile as well. I was sad to see it go. But it brings me to this question, is it right for Myspace to block me from being able to know who visits my profile?

I’m sure it won’t be long before profilesnoop.com manages to find a way to get back up and running or all the other copy-cat sites start popping up. And when they do, I’ll be there… ready to sign up.

Of course, if we do manage to find a way to see who’s viewing our MySpace profiles, this means that others will know that we are viewing theirs. Would this damper our MySpace experience by making us think twice before “cyber-stalking” someone? Maybe. But then again, maybe not.

DialResults’ new Internet Protocol (IP) predictive dialer technology allows contact centers to implement multi-site contact center environments very cost effectively. In fact it may be time for many traditional call centers to replace their legacy ACD environments. DialResults IP technology allows call centers to minimize costs by eliminating costly technological boundaries of a traditional CTI applications and reducing phone charges. This reduces costs of the call center by maximizing the use of the CSR’s time with a reduced labor pool. DialResults IP technology can provide intelligent skill based routing across the contact centers entire network, to move the customer instantly to the best pool of agents with skill sets to handle the customer’s needs immediately. DialResults IP technology also enables today’s modern contact center to have consolidated reporting and management as if the distributed call center was in one location.

DialResults’ technology is a total IP based PBX / predictive dialer-based system for today’s and tomorrow’s new multi site contact center environment. Distributed call centers that use the new DialResults IP architecture have many compelling advantages over the traditional PBX/ACD’s and older predictive dialer technology. DialResults’ centralized IP-based predictive dialer system is extremely scalable, easy to use and has more functionality at a lower cost. This gives contact centers a higher ROI, than the traditional call center equipment. DialResults IP based multi site contact centers have many compelling advantages for today’s and tomorrows contact center applications.

Benefits of Using Remote Agents or Multi Site Contact Centers

1. Lowers operating costs.

Agents working on a DialResults IP enabled predictive dialer solution from home or from a remote location means a much smaller contact center facility is required — for major cost savings for a contact center’s business model.

2. Lower telecommunications Costs

Contact Centers routing calls over the DialResults IP network will dramatically reduce a contact centers costs for inbound and outbound calls or any type of multi media application.

3. Seamless service.

Agent’s that are on the DialResults IP solution will now have the benefit that CSR’S physical location is now transparent to everyone: agents, callers, and called 3rd parties. DialResults new IP technology, also allows contact centers to maintain high-quality of seamless service, so when one
contact center location is closed, goes down or reaches its call handling capacity; calls now can be automatically routed to another location or a group of off site agents.

4. Easy administration.

Separate sites or remote at home agents has been difficult to administer centrally with only one management team. Now DialResults IP predictive dialer solution allows ease of use with seamless administration of all remote locations and at home CSR’S. First things first, what is Firefox? Well, it’s a browser. Ok but what’s that? A browser is a computer program used to view web pages, to browse through the world wide web. In fact you are reading this article with a browser at the moment. Browsers are very useful. For a start, they can remember what pages you have looked at, you can even store your favourite pages as Bookmarks. Browsers can do much more depending on which one you have.

Firefox is a free browser developed by the Mozilla Foundation. The Mozilla Foundation develops open source software. Another excellent application is Thunderbird, an email program.

More than likely you are using Internet Explorer to view this webpage. This browser is part of Microsoft Windows operating system. To check which browser you are using:

  1. Click on the Help in your browsers menu bar. (It’s the last option on the right hand side, after File, Edit…)
  2. Click on the last option in the menu that appears.

If it says Microsoft Internet Explorer® then you have the browser that between 80% and 90% (depending on who you talk to) use.

So why change?

Security: Most experts agree that you are less likely to be the subject of a malicious attack by “hackers” if you use Firefox than if you use Internet Explorer.

Firefox Extensions: There is a whole array of quick and easy to install extensions available for Firefox. Extensions add functionality to your browser. They are a bit like the added extras that you get with your car (except they’re free!). Everything from Ad blockers to your local weather forecast.

Tabbed browsing: Instead of opening your browser more than once to view more than one page at a time, which can slow down your computer, tabbed browsing allows you to open many web pages, in tabs, in only one browser.

So how do you get the Firefox browser?

  1. Click on this link to go to the Firefox download page.
  2. In the top right corner of the page is a green area with a link to the free download.
  3. When the dialog box appears, click save.
  4. Select a location to download the file to.
  5. The file should start downloading to the location you selected.
  6. When the file has finished downloading, (it should be called something like Firefox Setup 1.0.5.exe) double click on it to open it.
  7. If you have Windows XP service pack 2 is installed, a dialog box may appear. Select execute.
  8. After Firefox has extracted, click next.
  9. Click on the radio button beside ‘I accept the terms of the License Agreement’ and then click on the next button.
  10. The standard installation is fine so just click on the next button.
  11. This screen just confirms the location that Firefox is to installed, so just click on the next button again.
  12. Click Finish to complete the installation and launch Firefox.

Congratulations! You have now installed Firefox. When Firefox starts the first time it will ask if you want to set Firefox as your default browser. Select yes.

One last thing. Under no circumstances remove Internet Explorer from your system. Firefox is a better browser but Internet Explorer is used by your computer for other things than browsing the web.

We’ve all heard about computer viruses and spy ware, but for some reason we all assume that it won’t happen to us. Unfortunately, we are all more at risk than we realize because every time you get on the Internet you expose your personal information and the functioning ability of your computer to viruses. Visiting the wrong website, reading the wrong email, or downloading the wrong program will leave you and your computer wide open for the viruses to attack. Luckily, there are things that you can do to protect yourself.

First, virus protection should be your first priority when you buy a new computer. Before you install any other programs you’ll want to ensure that your computer is fully protected from the viruses that come in all shapes and sizes. If your computer is not new, it’s not too late. You should look into downloading programs such as Spybot, Norton Antivirus, Spysweeper, or the virus programs offered by McAfee. All of these programs will help you control what types of programs are allowed to run on your computer. Most of these programs can be set up so that they run every day at the same time. This means that you will have your computer swept clean of any suspicious or dangerous programs daily so that they do not have the time to affect your computer files in negative ways. These programs are highly effective and will most likely catch viruses and suspicious programs before they can invade your privacy and wall of protection. Most of these programs can be downloaded or purchased from your electronics retailer very inexpensively, making the retail price more than worth it.

It is also a great idea to align yourself with a web provider that helps you protect yourself from viruses. Most of the big web providers such as America Online scan each email before you open it for viruses and protect you from emails that have links and such in them so that you are not taken to a website that will put you at risk. The automatic scanning of emails really help eliminate the opportunity for you to become infected with any type of virus, big or small. When you have an Internet provider that does this along with at least one virus protection software program, you’ll see that you can stop the intrusion of your privacy and the corruption of your important files.

As you can see, protecting your computer from viruses isn’t all that difficult, it just takes some thought and planning. If you don’t have the software you need or you don’t run them regularly your computer can be rendered useless and your personal information can be stolen. Planning and protection is key!

You don’t have to be a gift basket designer to create a nice gift for someone special. If you have a little extra time to do some shopping and some downtime at home to do the creating, personalized gift baskets are a wonderful way of expressing yourself to someone special for any occasion.

There are many benefits to creating your own, personalized gift. One being, you can select the perfect products for your basket and even include personalized items, such as a framed picture. I’ve even had clients give me hand knit items they made to include in custom gift baskets.

The key to creating a pleasing gift basket is to find one focus item and place it in the center of the basket. If you are looking for a professional look, find several items that somewhat match in color and theme and place them around the main item. Go for a balanced look, with items on either side, in front and/or behind the main product.

Adding embelishments is a fun way to dress up the gift basket. Many craft and discount stores have plastic flowers, fruits, and many other items that you can easily add to your baskets to make them look nice.

Now that you have the basics of what to put in the basket, here’s a simple and inexpensive way to put it all together. Find a nice gift basket, or any “container” type of item, such as a flower pot, colander or gift box. Bunch up some newspaper or tissue paper and put it in the container. Top with shredded paper of your desired color. Place your items in the container as described above, so they are all visible at the top of the container. Don’t be afraid to use some tape or glue dots to hold things in place. Many professionals use floral foam on the bottom and skewer the items into place with wooden sticks, although this is not necessary.

Wrap your basket with cello wrap or use cello basket bags and tie off with a nice ribbon and bow. Most craft stores carry cello wrap and bags, the latter being much simpler to use. Add a personalized card by hole-punching the corner and tie on with the ribbon. You’re all set!

Creating a gift basket definitely takes time, patience and creativity. Many gift basket professionals charge anywhere from $10 - $40 per hour to create custom gift baskets! In the interest of saving money, try it yourself. If your interest lies in saving time or you need the gift shipped, you may opt to buy a unique and affordable basket from the gift basket professionals.

There are some simple steps you must take to avoid becoming a victim of computer viruses and also stop from spreading viruses to others. Here are some things that you can and should do.

Email Issues to watch

Never open an E-mail with an attachment you were not expecting.

The latest batch of virus programs are often spread by E-mail. Even if your anti-virus program does not warn you about the attached file and even if the eMail appears to come from someone you know, do not open it if you were not expecting it, and if you were expecting it, only open it AFTER scanning it with your up-to-date virus software.

Scan ALL incoming email attachments (regardless of who sent it).

Be sure to run each attachment you plan to open through the anti-virus check. Do this even if you recognize and trust the sender; malicious code, like Trojan horses, can slip into your system by appearing to be from a friendly source.
Turn off the ‘automatic preview’ in your email program.

Automatically previewing an email message has the exact same effect as opening and reading an email. My of the newest internet worms, trojans, and viruses simply need to have an email message read in order for them to be activated. Turning off the preview feature allows you to scan any email BEFORE you actually read it.
Disk Issues to watch

Don’t boot from a floppy disk.

Floppies are one of the most common ways viruses are transmitted. If you are using a floppy while working on your computer, remove it when you shut the machine off or the computer will automatically try to boot from the floppy, perhaps launching any viruses on the disk.

Web Based Issues

Keep your web browser set to its highest security level.

Its a pain to get the warning messages on every other web page you visit, but its the best way to protect yourself - especially if you use Microsoft Internet Explorer and Outlook.

Don’t download programs from the Web.

Unreliable sources such as Internet newsgroups or Web sites that you haven’t heard of may be willing providers of viruses for your computer. Avoid downloading files you can’t be sure are safe. This includes freeware, screensavers, games, and any other executable program - any files with an “.exe” or “.com” extension, such as “coolgame.exe.” Check to see if the site has anti-virus software running on their side. If you do have to download from the Internet, be sure to scan each program before running it. Save all downloads to one folder, then run virus checks on everything in the folder before using it. Regardless of where you download from, ALWAYS scan downloaded software.
Routine Maintenance

Make regular back ups of important data

Make it a habit to back up all of your most important files at least once a month. Store the back up discs in a safe place.

Clean any virus/worm/trojan off your computer

Using your antivirus software, perform a full system scan of your PC, hopefully it will detect and remove the virus. If a virus was detected, restart your computer and run the full scan again. Sometime the virus will keep reappearing, due to the evolving nature of viruses. Symantec is particularly fast at providing removal tools should you ever get a virus or worm infesting your computer.

What is a removal tool? Well simply put it is a simple software that will scan your computer for infections, and then remove them from your machine. You most often need this if your machine got infected BEFORE you installed antivirus software.
Top Considerations for PC Protection

And the final and most important two things to do to keep your computer clean and make sure it does not spread viruses to other computers…

Install a Firewall

If you use a broadband/high-speed method to access the internet, you need to get a firewall. A firewall is a program that defends your computer from hackers who attempt to gain direct access to your computer over the Internet. There is a very good firewall program called ZoneAlarm that will do the trick if you use Windows.

Install and use a high-quality anti-virus program.

This is the key to protecting your computer. Buy one of the major anti-virus programs - Norton Anti-Virus, PC-Cillin, or McAfee Anti-Virus. The primary benefit of the commercial packages is the frequency and ease of updating the virus definition files that these programs use to detect viruses. With new viruses popping up all the time, unless your protection software is kept updated, you start to become ever more vulnerable to infection.

Get immediate protection.

Configure your anti-virus software to launch automatically on start-up and run at all times. This will provide you back-up protection in case you forget to scan an attachment, or decide not to. And in case you forget to load up your anti-virus software, configuring it to start by itself will ensure you get immediate protection anyway. The top antivirus software programs all do this (but only if you have one installed on your computer). You do have current antivirus software installed right?
