There are many reasons for purchasing a paper shredder, and the need for such an office device increased since the FACTA Law “Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act” was passed in 2005. Many offices consider such a purchase but are worried about the room the paper shredder will occupy. There is good news for them – small office paper shredders – they take very little room and offer more than enough shredding capacity for a small 3-5 person office. Another issue some company managers come across is related to paper shredder costs. However, the devices requires almost no cash to maintenance and run and the fact of knowing that your disposed documents cannot be pieced together is worth every cost.

Identity theft prevention

The scale of identity theft has been recently analyzed in a federal report and the general results were worrying. The report states that lately, one out of four American homes is targeted by identity theft. This is a very large-scale problem, it was shown, and home owners, together with business managers, started putting more thought into efficiently protecting themselves against this plague. Business and employee personal information is often thrown away in the garbage, from where it is easily removed by someone who wishes to use that information illegally. One answer to this problem is the new June 2005 FACTA Law (Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act) which brings new regulations concerning identity theft.

Office paper shredders

An increased rigor in safety rules determined many companies to acquire office paper shredders. They are one of the safest ways to dispose of official documents or any other sensitive document type that has served its purpose. Most office paper shredders are getting close to flawlessness in cutting paper in a way that prevents any form of document restoration. Once such documents are shredded, the potential risk factor of someone putting them back together decreases to almost zero. There are various office paper shredder types to choose from, from basic to advanced models.

Work load of office paper shredders

Office shredders are presented in various sizes, colors and models. There are very few things that can break the shredder and their affordable price and increased durability recommends them as a smart investment. Most office paper shredder models are easily adjusted to the environment of your office and maintenance is easy to perform. You can also choose different color schemes for the office paper shredder, so that they blend in perfectly with your environment. The work capability of the paper shredder is usually very high, more than enough for regular office needs. Industrial paper shredders are also available for companies that deal with a lot of paper documentation.

Identity theft commonly begins with the loss or theft of a wallet or purse. But there are many or high-tech and low-tech ways criminals can get their hands on your personal and financial information in order to commit identity theft.

When someone uses your name or personal information, such as your credit card number, driver’s license number, Social Security number, telephone number, or other account numbers, without your permission, you become a victim of identity theft.

Thieves steal your personal information and use it to open credit accounts, bank accounts, telephone service accounts, and make major purchases in your name. These criminals use your sensitive information to take over existing accounts, or open new accounts. Their criminal activities can result in damage to your credit rating and denials to credit and job offers.

Protecting Your Identity While there are no guarantees that your identity will never be stolen or compromised, there are several steps you can take to minimize the risks. Here are a few of them:

• Before you discard your personal information that you no longer need, such as credit card receipts, billing statements, and pre-approved credit card offers, shred them using, at best, a diagonal-cut shredder.

• Create unique passwords and personal identification numbers (PINS) and avoid using easily available information such as mother’s maiden name, date of birth, or last four digits of your Social Security number.

• Do not give your Social Security number to people or companies that you do not know.

• Guard your mail from theft. Promptly remove your incoming mail from your mailbox and place outgoing mail in locked collection boxes at your local Post Office.

• As an extra measure of security, install a lock on your mailbox, even if mail theft is not an identified problem in your neighborhood.

• Before disclosing personal information, even to people you know where you shop or do business, insist on knowing the reason(s) your personal information is required and how it will be used.

Low-Tech Rip-offs: Thieves can do much damage with what they remove from your mailbox.

Criminals are increasingly creative in the methods they use to get their hands or eyes on your personal information, and ultimately, your money. Here are some of the low-tech techniques they employ:

• Dumpster Diving, one of the easiest ways for them to appropriate your personal information.

• Mail Theft from unsecured residential mailboxes. According to statistics, mail theft most often takes place at unprotected and easily accessible mailboxes in public places.

• Shoulder surfing takes place when a thief watches or listens literally over your shoulder as you enter your PIN into an ATM machine. They may even follow you home or your place of work to gather additional information about you.

High-Tech Techniques: Data transferred across the Internet can be intercepted during its journey.

• Phishing and Pharming: While phishing is a scam in which consumers are tricked into entering their personal information via a bogus email and website form, pharming occurs where hackers steal personal information from numerous people simultaneously through something known as “domain spoofing”. They take over a DNS server and redirect user information to a new website that they use to gather, collect, “pharm” illegal information.

• Skimming: Thieves quickly and temporarily steal a credit card and run it through a skimmer, a credit card reader that has been reprogrammed to steal information off the card.

Fight Back: Reduce the Risks

Make education about the scams, schemes, and frauds criminal use to steal your identity your priority in view of the rising occurrence of this multi-million-dollar-problem. With education comes prevention. Here are some prevention tips to help reduce the risks:

• Safeguard your personal information. Never take simple things for granted.

• Carry with your only the information you need. Always keep your personal information and documents in a safe and secured place of your choosing.

• Order and review a copy of your credit report at least once a year.

• Shred documents containing your sensitive information before discarding them.

Part 1 of ‘Your Abundant Life’

CAN YOU HONESTLY AND REALISTICALLY GET WHAT YOU WANT OUT OF LIFE? CAN YOU LIVE YOUR DREAMS, HAVE THE FREEDOM AND TIME TO DO WHAT YOU WANT, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, CAN YOU DO IT ALL ON YOUR OWN TERMS, NOT YOUR BOSSES, OR ANYONE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER?

DO I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION? CAN I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE?

GOOD!

What’s the answer…”But of course!”(Did you expect anything else?)

Stop for a second and truthfully ask yourself this. How many times have you said, “If I could just get this, or that, or the other thing, I would have it made.” Or “If I did this, or that, I would get this or that.”, (or something along those lines). You get the point. I know there isn’t a soul out there that hasn’t said it a many times, and what has it gotten you?… “Excuse me, I can’t quite hear you… you’re mumbling.” “What’s that?”,..“nothing”, a little louder please…“NOTHING”. That’s right, NOTHING, NADA, ZIP, ZILCH, SQUAT, and a few terms that are really not nice, but applicable.

If I, If I, If I… folks, we have a problem here. What’s the problem Mr. Smarty-pants? Simple, ‘If I’ puts you dead in the water. The problem is that ‘If I’ is not a problem, but a conditioned response, a circumstantial cop-out, a total negative state of mind. There is no action required on your behalf, and therefore there will not be any results stemming from an action. Does this make sense? It should. ‘If I’ is an excuse, period. It not only places self-doubt upon yourself but it also takes the ‘responsibility’ out of your hands, instead of you, ‘responding to your ability’! Ahh, I see where you are going with this.

So how do we solve this diluted thinking of ours? There are three very important factors, two of which I will address right now. Stop for yet another second and reflect back on this. Can you remember a time when you accomplished something really important? It doesn’t matter what the magnitude was, but it was really important for you. We have all been there. Think about it for a moment. Remember how good it felt, the sense of pride and achievement it brought to you once you conquered whatever it was. I guarantee you ‘If I’ never entered the picture. Problem solved.

Take the words ‘If I’ right out of your vocabulary, never to utter them again. Now what? That’s the easy part. Simply replace them with “When I….” Now we have action, because the word ‘when’ points to a positive means to an end. ‘If’, says I won’t, ‘When’, says I will. It’s very basic, but extremely powerful. Fine-tuning the mind, and being able to change your ‘stinkin’ thinkin’ is an essential part of becoming successful in anything that you do in your life. It doesn’t matter where you are in your life either. I don’t care what your ‘background’ is.

You truly have an opportunity right now to make a change in your life. Change is hard, trusting the process and believing what I have told you and putting it into action is even harder, simple as it might sound. I am just scratching the surface. Wait until I get deep down under the skin. We will uncover the answers to things that have been bugging you for your entire life. Things like why you are the way that you are. I think I said that right. You know, important things like, “Maybe your Mother made faces at you when you were in your crib.” Or “Maybe you were toilet-trained to early.” Or “Maybe you just weren’t secure on your potty.” Yes, I am kidding here, but trained psychologists aren’t. Your past has nothing to do with your today. The third point: You control today, this moment, it is all yours to do with as you please. Dwelling on a negative past issue in like dragging an albatross. You can’t do anything about it, so just forget it; it’s gone. Ask yourself this one, “What am I holding onto, and what good is it doing me, or what good has it done me.” What this has done is more serious damage, than from whatever it was that happened in your past in the first place. It has held you back from living life today, period. Don’ think about it, live it!

I have earned my education, what it took me to compile the amount of information that I have ready to unload on you is extensive. I have a PhD in the school of Hardknocks, and after 30 years in the sales and marketing arena, I am quite an expert within the industry. A true professional knows people, and what makes them tick. My forte’ is people. I mentor, train, teach and mold people into leaders on a daily basis. It’s old school, the main focus is honor, integrity, and the sheer determination for success through the ‘work smart, not hard’ principle. I train and mentor people to be leaders in life, and if they happen to join me in business, all the more better, because I know where they came from and what to expect. Making money is my specialty. It had been three years since I had last seen my wife and I new that once we parted ways there would be no turning back. Too much damage had been done and it was finally clear to me after years of lies and deceit that our marriage was doomed from the start.

From the first time I laid eyes on her I could sense she had a mischievous and somewhat sassy way about her. Yet it attracted me and I sensed an undeniable flirtation in her smile and in her captivating eyes. She was too drop dead gorgeous not to be seeing anyone, besides that she probably had guys hitting on her left and right and I she seemed to be the type of woman who was used to being pursued and definitely not one to initiate any thought of making the first move. No, as much as I enjoyed meeting her that night, I felt confident that nothing would ever come of this, never the less she stayed on my mind for days after that first encounter.

Sometimes a person turns out to be happy they were wrong and this was definitely one of those times. She called me and asked me if I would go out with her. Some things in life we just can’t figure out. They make no sense, yet we tend to complicate things way too much. I mean think about it; boy meets girl, boy likes girl, girl likes boy, girl and boy get together. Yes, it’s that simple, but to me it was like splitting atoms. I had so many questions about how a hot girl like her would find me as attractive to her as she was to me. It’s kismet baby, don’t fight it, don’t question it, and definitely don’t pass up an opportunity like this. It’s ashamed this story was not destined for a fairy tale ending though, in fact it turned out to be quite the opposite. Outside of the physical attraction, the foundation of our relationship was built on rocky ground, but unfortunately at the time both of us had clouded judgments, co-dependency, and a constant need to be high, and high we stayed. We fell in love all right, although for both of us our true love and loyalty was to our drugs of choice.

My life was beginning to be unmanageable, although the drugs told me differently. My life was becoming so out of control. I wasn’t calling the shots any more; my addiction was leading me to believe that I wasn’t the one with the problem. On the contrary, I saw myself as a victim and in my distorted mind I was more than convinced that it was the world that owed me. I soon lost all humility, humble no more, with an absence of gratitude, disillusioned, and slowly but surely heading down a path that would eventually take me years of despair, and leave me spiritually bankrupt and emotionally break me down so low that it would take years to find peace or any perspective of who I was, what I had become, and how was I to ever regain my dignity and find any self respect or self love again. The guilt along with the shame came very close to killing me and my life had become no more than a mere existence.

My wife’s journey was running parallel with mine, never the less we were having a lot of fun in the beginning. You see, the drug induced me loved being with my drug induced wife and we believed our selves to be head over heals in love. It was a great relationship that our addictions had with each other, they loved being high together and were very supportive of each other when it came to lying, cheating, and deceiving the empty shells of our true selves. It was a lot easier letting our addictions lead our lives. They allowed us to avoid reality and support our lack of truth, sincerity, and morals. They didn’t take life to serious, and with that they had totally turned us into puppets. numb and without worry. They convinced us that our lives were good, that we were happy and So In love with one and other, and eventually we began to believe all the lies. We never really have any opportunity to fall in love or to love each other unconditionally. We don’t know how to love our selves, much less another. We become self centered and self-seeking, willing to keep our addictions fed, while starving our selves and our partners from anything real or unselfish.

If I am poisoning my own body, spirit and mind, then what does that say about my ability to love another? I thought I was in love, I wanted so much to be loved, but I never had the chance. Our addictions fell in love, long before I ever had an opportunity to truly know her, to care for her, or to put her well being ahead of mine, a; symbols of real love for another. lt took years before I found the clarity to understand the true nature of our disease before I finally realized that “Addictions Fall In Love, and addicts fall for the lies”….

O.K. Let me start off by saying that the following statements are only my opinions so I don’t create a war of the minds. I have been fixing, cleaning, and repairing computers for several years now and one thing remains true. Absolutely no software completely protects your computer from spyware, malware, and viruses. That being said, I will now tell you the free software I use to help keep my computers and the computers I work on clean.

AntiVirus. What Is The Best Free Antivirus?
My favorite and most trusted Antivirus FREE or NOT is AVG Antivirus by GRISoft. The FREE version is for home use only and has limited features but there are plenty for a home use computer. It has served me well on my own computer as well as every computer I have repaired or cleaned. I would suggest taking a look at http://Free.Grisoft.com

AntiSpyware. What are The Best Free Spyware Removal Tool?
Here is where I suggest trying a few different ones. I personally love the Microsoft Offering in this category. It is currently free and hopefully will remain that way. It all started when they bought out company named ” GIANT Company Software “. They made a great antispyware application that I was already using. Then I installed the Microsoft Antispyware Beta version of this antispyware and I liked it as well. Now they are calling their solution “Windows Defender” which is in the Beta 2 phase and I still think the program is the best around for free. Some other honorable mentions are AdAware, SpyBot Search and Destroy, and ewido anti-malware which was just recently bought out by GRIsoft which makes the AntiVirus listed above. You can find the Microsoft offering at http://www.microsoft.com.

Firewall. What is the Best FREE Firewall?
My favorite firewall is definitely ZoneAlarm from http://www.zonelabs.com. ZoneAlarm is free for individual and not-for-profit charitable entity use. To find the free version click on the ZoneAlarm Tab. If you are looking for added protection consider their “Pro” Offering. I have used this product for many years now and it works perfectly and gives you all the control you need.

We are surrounded by so much paper and card that it is
easy to forget just how complex it is. There are many
varieties and grades of paper materials, and whilst it is fairly
easy to spot the varieties, it is far more difficult to spot the
grades.

It needs to be understood that most paper and card is
manufactured for a specific purpose, so that whilst the
corn-flake packet may look smart it is clearly not something
destined for the archives. It is made to look good, but only
needs a limited life span. It is also much cheaper to
manufacture than high grade card.

Paper can be made from an almost endless variety of
cellulose based material which will include many woods,
cottons and grasses or which papyrus is an example and
from where we get the word ‘paper’. Many of these are very
specialized, but the preponderance of paper making has
been from soft wood and cotton or rags, with the bulk being
wood based.

Paper from Wood.

In order to make wood into paper it needs to be broken
down into fine strands. Firstly by powerful machinery and
then boiled with strong alkalies such as caustic soda, until
a fine pulp of cellulose fibres is produced. It is from this pulp
that the final product is made, relying on the bonding
together of the cellulose into layers. That, in a very small
nutshell, is the essence of paper making from wood.
However, the reality is rather more complicated. In order to
give us our white paper and card the makers will add bleach
and other materials such as china clay and additional
chemicals.

An further problem with wood is that it contains a material
that is not cellulose. Something called Lignin. This is
essential for the tree since it holds the cellulose fibres
together, but if it is incorporated into the manufactured paper
it presents archivists with a problem. Lignin eventually
breaks down and releases acid products into the paper.
This will weaken the bond between the cellulose fibres and
the paper will become brittle and look rather brown and
careworn. We have all seen this in old newspapers and
cheap paperback books. It has been estimated that most
paper back books will have a life of not greater than fifty
years. Not what we need for our archives.

Since the lignin can be removed from the paper pulp during
manufacture the obvious question is ‘why is it left in the
paper?’ The answer lies in the fact that lignin makes up a
considerable part of the tree. By leaving the lignin in the pulp
a papermaker can increase his paper yield from a tree to
some 95%. Removing it means a yield of only 35%. It is
clearly uneconomic to remove the lignin for many paper and
card applications.

It also means, of course, that lignin free paper is going to be
more expensive, but that is nevertheless what the archivist
must look for in his supplies. There is no point whatsoever
in carefully placing our valuable artifacts in paper or card
that is going to hasten their demise. Acid is particularly
harmful to photographic materials, causing them to fade
and is some cases simply vanish!

So, how do we tell a piece of suitable paper or card from
one that is unsuitable? You cannot do it by simply looking,
and rather disappointingly, you cannot always rely on the
label. ‘Acid free’ might be true inasmuch as a test on the
paper may indicate that it is a neutral material at this time.
But lignin can take years before it starts the inevitable
process of breaking down, and in the right conditions it will
speed up enormously.

Added to this, as I have indicated earlier, paper may also
contain other materials added during manufacture such as
bleach, china clay, chemical whiteners and size. This looks
like a bleak picture, and it would be but for the fact that there
are suppliers who will guarantee the material that they sell.
If you want to be absolutely sure that you are storing in, or
printing on, the correct material then this is probably the only
way.

Incidentally, acids can migrate from material to material.
Lining old shoe boxes with good quality acid free paper will
do little to guard the contents. The acid will get there in the
end.

Paper from Rag.

Paper is also commonly made from cotton and rag waste.
This has the advantage of being lignin free, but because
there is much less cotton and rag than trees, it also tends to
be much more expensive than wood pulp paper. You will
still need to purchase from a reliable source though, since
even rag paper and card can contain undesirable additives.

A reliable source for quality rag papers is a recognised art
stockist. Many water colour artists insist on using only fine
quality rag paper and board.

The main lesson to learn from this information is that you
cannot rely on purchasing archival materials from the high
street. The only safe solution is to purchase from specialist
suppliers. It may cost rather more, but in the end you will
know that your important and valuable data and images
have the best home possible.

Penny postcards became popular in 1890 to 1917. These postcards were called such because they were mailed with a one-penny postage stamp. Penny postcards became very popular during this period that printers, businesses and photographers were always trying to find new and exciting subjects to capture in order to satisfy customers that were hungry for new ideas and art work to impress their friends or lovers.

During this era photo studios employ women to color the photo postcards. But today, women need not manually color these cards. Printing machines are available these days that can produce crisp, vibrant and colorful prints. Inkjet printers, for one, use digitally controlled pipelines that can deliver consistent output. In inkjet printing, small drops of ink are placed in the paper to create an image. There is no need for chemical reaction or light induced processes as the tint is directly deposited into the print. Out of the different types of printer available today, inkjet printers are the most popular. Today, the only technology that comes close to it is the laser printers.

Inkjet photo printing has several benefits. It saves time, offers instant satisfaction and is breaking new ground in photo color consistency and quality. Additionally, you can easily adjust your own photos to achieve more vibrant pictures and avoid relying on the uncertainties of traditional photo printing. But when using inkjet printers, it is better to use inkjet photo papers as well. This is because using inkjet photo papers can provide brighter pictures, sharp line, long lasting output, good coverage and saturation and minimized banding.

The drawback with inkjet printers is that although they are cheaper to buy than laser printers, they are generally more expensive to maintain. The cartridges need to be changed more often and the special paper required to produce high quality output is rather expensive. But as researches in inkjet technology has been continuously made, the price of inkjet printers have also continuously fallen. Another downside with inkjet technology is the tendency of the ink to smudge immediately after printing. But this problem has improved, too, during the past few years with the development of new ink compositions.

Thus, when you want your postcards or any artwork to stand out, you can seek out real photographic artworks. And perhaps one of the best ways to create your vivid photos is by using inkjet technology. You can make an album of your photo postcards and your friends and guests can look through the album on their visits.

When you enter the world of event planning, the one thing you realize very quickly is that flexibility is a necessity. Your event planning software will need to track appointments you have set, events you are planning, your journal or diary entries you are writing, projects you are working on, and the tasks on your to-do list. In this beginner’s guide article series, you will receive insights into each of these categories and some productive ways to use them.

First, let’s take a look at appointments in event planning software. This is the most obvious category. When picking an event planning software package, make sure that you have a monthly view of your appointments. This view allows you to see your month at a glance so that you can make decision quickly and get a grip on your schedule flow to prevent costly schedule errors like double booking.

Second, let’s take a look at your events in the event planning software. Your software should also give you a monthly view at this point too. Let me give you more detail on the characteristics on the monthly view. Your monthly view should be interactive without the need to compromise the view in your event planning software. In other words, you can make notations onto the calendar’s monthly view without leaving that view. This is where you will get your biggest bang for the buck because you can make notations directly onto the view without popping up any extra screens and yet have full visual to every day of the month.

If you are like me, you have had to fumble with software that took you to a totally different window to add notes and while you were writing the notes you needed to go back to the original window to assess some critical data. You may have even had to copy out your notes to another program temporarily until you could flip back from the original screen. What a pain!

The flexibility to work on your appointment and events in an unencumbered environment are crucial to your productivity success. As you can see, there is at a basic level some important event planning software design issues to address when choosing package. In the next article we will tackle the journal.

Actual Tools announces Actual Window Minimizer 3.7

For immediate release

September 1, 2005

Contact: Michael Tretyakov
Company: Actual Tools
E-mail: press@actualtools.com

Windows shell enhancement to organize uncluttered desktop space for convenient working.

Actual Tools announced version 3.7 of its innovative desktop space saving and organization software that allows minimizing any window to task tray notification area or to the edge of the screen. Actual Window Minimizer 3.7 handles all standard application windows making it easy to organize uncluttered desktop space for convenient working. An average system running Actual Window Minimizer is much easier to use thanks to ergonomics concepts utilized in this software.

Actual Window Minimizer is intended both for home and corporate users who would like to get a better view of desktop by using alternative windows minimization method rather then using traditional ways of placing minimized windows on the Taskbar. Due to the fact that application icons are in most cases self-explanatory it is often enough to minimize inactive windows to task tray area or to the edge of the screen without having to display additional textual description. However, hovering mouse cursor over minimized window icon provides such information, making it easy to master such alternative minimization technique both for advanced and newbie computer users.

“As computers grow more versatile we all tend to use more applications at once,” - said Michael Tretyakov, CEO of Actual Tools. “This in turn makes our desktops messy and cluttered with buttons, text and other elements representing various applications running. Some users have already purchased the second monitor to expand their desktops, but I believe there is a far simpler and cheaper way to sort the things out. Simply minimize, and we actually mean it, the applications that does not require you to look at them and focus on important issues!”

According to Mr. Tretyakov “Actual Tools did its best to create a truly convenient alternative window minimizing tool that is easy to use for everyone who can click a mouse button. Keeping desktop clean means less distraction, which in turn means steadier operation and healthier computing experiences!”

In the latest version of Actual Window Minimizer adds the following new functionality:

“Minimize Window to Tray When it is Launched” option.
“Minimize Window to Tray When it is Deactivated” option.
Command for sorting windows rules by name, in order to make the rules easier to find.

Actual Window Minimizer runs under Windows 95/98/Me/NT4/2000/XP, costs $19.95(US), and may be purchased securely online at http://www.ActualTools.com/
