FLYING STARS FENGSHUI FOR 2006 : YEARLY PREDICTIONS &
REMEDIES FOR MAIN DOOR FACING EAST

(Chinese Solar Year : 04.02.2006 to 03.02.2007)

Flying Stars or Fei Xing is a powerful form of Feng Shui derived
from the famous Xuan Kong Fengshui. It is an Analysis of the
Five Elements and Star Combinations (representing certain energy
patterns) that occupy every building. Each new year these annual
stars change, Qi (energy) shifts happen, bringing good and bad
energy with them - thereby producing different effects.

In February 2004 all the Feng Shui Energy Patterns underwent
huge transformations to the NewAge of Land Luck called Period 8
Energy Cycles. It means that a large scale evolution of the
human race with completely new energy dynamics has started. The
significance is that the new, vibrant energies of Period 8
impacts on the buildings differently than before and energies
that were previously activated now need to be remedied, in order
to reduce any bad effects from the past influences.

The Flying Stars Chart or the 9-Grid Meteor Plan for the
Bing-Xu, Year of the Yang Red Fire Dog has been plotted and the
effects of their energy patterns are analyzed. The analysis also
contains suggested remedies/cures for reducing the impact of
negative energy and recommended enhancers for increasing and
improving upon the beneficial energy.

For the remedies/enhancers to be effective, they should be
cleansed, energised, blessed and programmed not only for the
particular individual/family but also for the specific
purpose/problem. They should also be placed in the indicated
location.

The direction in which your main door lies is very important to
any form of Geomancy, including Fengshui & Vaastu. The primary
reason for this is that the air currents and energy flow in and
flow out through the mouth of the main door. Thus you receive
positive energy for the year, if the main door faces a direction
of auspicious stars or meteors (powerful energy bodies) and
receive negative energy for the year, if the main door faces a
direction of evil stars or meteors. In case negative impacts are
forecast, you can simply offset the negative energy by
installing the recommended remedies there. Any or all of these
remedies can be reused for the coming years, the only thing is
that they should be repositioned according to the new year.

Please note that the effects may be felt in varying degrees
depending upon the exact compass degree of the main door.

ANNUAL FORECAST & REMEDIES FOR FLATS/HOMES/OFFICES/FACTORIES
WITH MAIN DOOR FACING EAST :

An excellent year that brings you fame and fortune. Your
negotiation skills are in their peak. Employees get to have more
power, promotions and increments. Patronage of superiors is
assured. Businessmen get growth in the form of expansions. It is
a lucky year to embark on a new venture too. Your regular
customers will bring in more new clients. Frequent travels and
overseas posting/business are possible.

Students and those appearing for professional/competitive exams
will do good. Sportsmen will perform well. Travelling
opportunities will be plenty. If you are in marketing line, show
business, tourism; or a lawyer or running a flower shop or
nursery, you will flourish more. Money luck and prosperity will
be in plenty. Events to celebrate, like marraige, could happen.
Place a Fengshui Water Fountain near your entrance to enhance
the qi still further. There could be some interpersonal
relationship problems among your family members. Growing a
potted water plant near your main door will offset it to a
certain extent. Excellent love luck in the air. Singles will get
ideal partners. Married couple should be wary of love triangles
or third party intrusions. Use a brown door mat for the bedroom
door, to dissipate extra love luck.

Display the “Safety Talisman for 2006″ in the North West sector
and carry a miniature version of it always.

Door Mat Colour for the Main Door : Green (on the inside,
for love luck, if you need it) and Earth Brown (on the outside).

COMMON MINIMUM REMEDY FOR ALL BUILDINGS FOR 2006 :

To minimise damage due to gossiping and rumours, arguments and
disputes, avoid the colours green and blue in the center of your
home. Do not place any moving water features like fish aquarium
or water fountains here. Display 8 red roses without thorns and
leaves in the center of your home/office/building and light up a
small red coloured bulb which will burn continuously, 24/7. This
is applicable for all buildings, irrespective of the direction
of the main doors.

Usually words can’t comfort the grieving. Just being there in
silence or listening is comforting. Nothing can change what has
happened but being with the bereaved is the best we can do. The
bereaved need companions who will truly listen and perhaps do
some of the small, everyday things that need doing–mowing the
lawn, changing the oil in the car, preparing a meal– any number
of things.Grieving is normal and unavoidable–it is a part of
life, and it takes time. We don’t get over it, we get through
it. Going through grief is a series of stages: shock, denial,
anger, bargaining, depression, and then acceptance, which is the
first step. You must come to terms with your loss and accept
that it is real and permanent. The stages of grief are not
necessarily in this order, but it usually takes one or two
years, or sometimes 4, 5 or more years for a person to work
through the loss of a child or spouse, as well as a divorce. The
loss of a job, home, health, all require a significant amount of
time to work through. There is no time frame. We can’t control
the process and this makes us feel vulnerable and sensitive to
outside stimuli. It needs to takes its natural course because if
we try to deny our grief and keep our emotions bottled up
inside, this can lead to chronic depression or physical illness.
Recent research indicates that some kind of ceremonial farewell
is helpful in aiding the bereaved to adjust to the death of
someone close. We must acknowledge publicly and formally that
something significant has happened or we may find more
difficulty in the grieving process.During the grieving process,
it’s normal to cry, lose your appetite, and withdraw socially.
Eventually instead of living moment-to-moment with our deep
feeling of sadness, we will experience these feelings
intermittently. Then we can think about getting back to work,
resuming our social life, doing our routine daily tasks again,
such as cleaning house, paying the bills, caring for the
children–even if we sometimes have to ask for help from a
friend or relative. It’s a good idea to keep a journal of one’s
thoughts and feelings, or write letters to the one who has died,
or write a story of your memories, or write poetry. Grief can be
expressed through painting or sculpture, or by participating in
whatever you are proficient in doing. Perhaps sewing or
woodworking–perhaps starting a project that will help others.
Spend time outdoors in a park or at the seashore. Being in touch
with nature can be both healing and restorative. It’s important
to retain our friendships because feelings of alienation and
abandonment are part of the grieving process. The best method of
fighting these feelings is to look for others to console. The
person who has gone through the loss of a loved one is uniquely
qualified and best able to understand others going through the
same pain. Spending time with people who have undergone a
similar loss can be very therapeutic. You discover how natural
your emotions are that you go through during the grieving
process. You can receive moral support and learn from the
experiences and the ideas of others. Support groups are not for
everyone but many people swear by them. Taking care of your
health is an important part of getting through your loss. Some
physical problems, such as insomnia, loss of appetite, muscle
tenseness, are to be expected. Avoid becoming overly tired, get
enough rest and sleep, eat nutritious meals, find support, hope
and comfort from something you have faith in or are interested
in, and life will be better. Avoid making major decisions and
changes in your life, as routine and familiarity with your
surroundings give you a feeling of stability and permanence when
you feel in chaos. The scriptures state; A time to weep, and a
time to laugh, a time to mourn, and a time to dance. The time of
weeping and mourning will be over. When we are able to form new
relationships, perhaps love again, we are on the road to
recovery. You can pick up the pieces and go on, the wound heals
but the scar remains.

Creating Address Lists
(c)janes-place

There are a lot of reasons to keep address lists. Here are some of them:

A-Keep a list of your contacts, so that you can use them for contacting later.

B-Keep a list of your customers and put them into categories. For instance, I keep a list of my customers that advertise with me. That way when I run a special, I can mail directly to them since they have bought advertising from me in the past, I let them know of any specials first.

C-Christmas Card list

D-It’s easy to update friend’s and family’s new addresses when they move or to update names. You could make a list for family and a list for friends.

E-Let’s say you forget someones last name. You know their first name is John, but you can’t remember their last name. You can search for John and get his information.

You can create an address list in Microsoft works or Outlook.

With Microsoft Works, using the ‘Address Book TaskWizard makes this chore a lot easier. Got to Start, Programs, Microsoft Works. Double-click on Adress Book. Click Yes in the run TaskWizard box to run the TaskWizard.

You will have different options in the next screen–Business, Personal… Choose the one you want to create, then click next

You will then see a screen letting you know the fields the address book will contain. You can change these later. For right now, click Next, then Create Document. When you click on Create Document, you will be asked if you want this Address Book to be the one that opens through the Address Book toolbar button. Choose yes or no.

Your Address Book Database will appear on the screen. The first thing you want to do is go to the file menu and click on Save As. Give it a name–Family and click Save. This is called the Form View.

Tip: to move quickly through the different fields of the Address Book, use the Tab key on your keyboard. To move back to a field, press the Shift and Tab key simultaneously. Start entering your data. When you get to the last field, click the Tab key to go back to the first entry.

If you want to remove a field, click on the Form Design tool bar button [the last button to the right on the tool bar.]. Click on the field to be removed and go to the Edit menu-click Delete Selection. You will be asked to confirm the deletion. Click ok.

If you want to add a field, click on the Form Design toolbar button and place the cursor where you want the field to appear. Go to the Insert menu and click on Field. Give the field a name [Fax]. Make sure General is selected in the Format box. Click ok.

If you want to rearrange the order of the fields or reduce or increase the spacing between them, while in Form Design, click on a field to change and keep the mouse button pressed down and drag it to the new position.

The date of your entry will be set-up automatically. It will probably show a series of symbols. If you increase the column width, by dragging the corner of the box to the desired width, after highlighting the box, you will see the day, month and year. You can change the format of the date by going to the Format menu and choosing Field. Choose the style you want from the box that appears. Click ok.

Save your list. Click on the List View button. It’s on the top toolbar and is the second button from the right side. From here you can adjust the width of a column by placing the cursor on the right-hand edge of the gray column header and drag it to the width you want.

It would be easier to work with the address book if it was in alphabetical order. To do this, go to the Record menu and click on Sort Records. Click on the first drop down button and find Last Name. Click on it. In the second box, find the First Name. Click on it. Make sure Ascending Order [A to Z] or Descending Order [Z to A], has a dot next to it in the top selection. Click ok.

Want to bold the Last Name so that you can see it better? Click on the Last Name column header. This will highlight the column. Click on bold on the toolbar.

These days, web cameras are everywhere. Your friends have one, maybe your office or the university that you study in also do. So, you decided to finally go with the crowd and get a camera. Now that you have it at home and connected to your computer, you probably wonder: “How do I make this thing show a picture online?” We are here to explain.

Setting up your own web camera is easy: all you need is a computer, the cam itself, webcam software which will do the broadcasting, and an Internet connection.
Streaming Video vs. Still Images

The first decision you have to make before putting your camera live is if it will show streaming video or still images. If you have visited a webcam directory such as OnlineCamera.com and looked at a few cams, you have most probably noticed that some of them show a continious stream of live video, while others refresh the page in your browser and show a different picture at a pre-set time interval. The first flavor, the streaming ones, are without doubt more attractive to a viewer, but can you support such a camera? If you have a broadband Internet connection, and you can afford setting aside much bandwith for your camera to stream, the answer is yes. If not, you’d better stick with the still image camera - that will make the proccess lighter for both you and your camera’s viewers, and such a connection can work without problems even if you access the ‘net through a dial-up connection. Also, this will give you the chance to show the world images with higher picture quality - larger and without grains, - although those images won’t be moving the way they do on TV.

It is also important to consider the image size of the shots being taken by your webcam: the greater the image, the lower the refresh rate. A 640×480 pixels image can be great looking, but it can be great trouble for users with slow Internet connections, especially if the refresh rate of your camera is set to an interval such as 3 seconds. Take a look at the options of the broadcasting software that came with your webcam, and think of how different options that it offers would look on other people’s computers. If you have friends and relatives living away from you who have Internet access, you could ask them to test your camera. Set it to different combinations of image size and refresh rates, and ask them to look at it and tell you how it looks. This way you could have some great fun with your camera even before you show it to the public. In case you don’t have people to experiment with, keep the following tips in mind: a reasonable image size can be 320×240 pixels if refreshed every 20-30 seconds. If you want the picture to update more often, try with an image size of 160×120 pixels. Using that, you can have refresh rates of up to 10 seconds. If you stream live video, try to keep an image size of 160×120 so slow Internet connections can see your webcam without problems.
Methods of Delivering the Webcam Shots
Client Pull

This method is the most popular, designed to show single snapshots from the webcam. It is the most easy method to set up, and the one that works perfectly for dial-up Internet connections. It also won’t take much bandwith from your connection, so you’ll still be able to surf the web, get e-mail, and other things while your webcam snaps shots. However, you won’t be able to serve live video feeds with this method.

This method is usually accomplished with an FTP connection that sends the last shot captured by the WebCam to the site hosting your web pages.
Server Push

This is the most resource-consuming method, and thus, the least implemented. You should use it if you’d like to stream live video from your cam to viewers. It has its limitations, some of which are:

* It requires a high bandwith connection.
* You must put a limit to the video stream for each user connecting to it.
* You can’t use a dial-up connection for this method.
* If there is a firewall in your network, it can disallow you to use this method, or can limit you in some way or another.
* Only the most recent browser versions support server push.

To set up a server push webcam, you’ll need a fixed IP (dynamic IP’s are also possible, but you need more resources) and server push software.
How to Refresh the Image

Once you’ve decided which kind of webcam you are setting up, you need to decide how to make it refresh the image.

To get the latest shot captured by the camera, your viewers will have to reload it (usually by pushing the F5 button on their keyboard), unless you add some extra HTML, Javascript code or Java applets which will autoreload the picture after a given period that you can define. (This does not apply to the server push method, since it is continously streaming a video feed).
META Tag Command

Altough this is the oldest method of refreshing a webcam image on a web page, it is in use in many places, and works perfectly. This way of refreshing is done via a little HTML code.

There is an HTML tag than can make a page automatically reload after a period of time (in seconds) is reached. The syntax for this tag is as follows:

<HEAD>
<META HTTP-EQUIV=REFRESH CONTENT=”seconds”>
</HEAD>

At the interval in seconds, the browser will reload the current page, and do it over and over again until the user closes it. The most significant disadvantage of this method is that the whole page is reloaded, so a heavy graphics site will be a pain to reload on slow connections and will result in high bandwith usage.

If you decide to use this method of refreshing your image, keep in mind that some old browsers don’t allow an image to automatically refresh after some reloads. To work around this bug, add the following code to your page’s HEAD tag:

<META HTTP-EQUIV=”Expires” CONTENT=”Tue, 01 Jan 1980 1:00:00 GMT”>
<META HTTP-EQUIV=”Pragma” CONTENT=”no-cache”>
JavaScript Refresh

If you don’t want to make your viewers wait for the whole HTML page to refresh, you can use the JavaScript language to make just the image refresh. Note that the visitor of your webcam page will have to enable JavaScript in order to see the image changing (nowadays, 90% of the audience does have JavaScript enabled).
Java Applets

Java applets are small programs embeded inside a web page, which load the webcam images freeing the browser form that job. There are hundreds of Java applets for this purpose available online, such as OnlineCamera Java Viewer. You can put them anywhere in your webcam page and they’ll refresh the image for you, without refreshing the whole page, just the image.

For the remedies/enhancers to be effective, they should be cleansed, energised, blessed and programmed not only for the particular individual/family but also for the specific purpose/problem. They should also be placed in the indicated location.

The direction in which your main door lies is very important to any form of Geomancy, including Fengshui & Vaastu. The primary reason for this is that the air currents and energy flow in and flow out through the mouth of the main door. Thus you receive positive energy for the year, if the main door faces a direction of auspicious stars or meteors (powerful energy bodies) and receive negative energy for the year, if the main door faces a direction of evil stars or meteors. Any or all of these remedies can be reused for the coming years, the only thing is that they should be repositioned according to the new year.

Please note that the effects may be felt in varying degrees depending upon the exact compass degree of the main door.

ANNUAL FORECAST & REMEDIES FOR FLATS/HOMES/OFFICES/FACTORIES WITH MAIN DOOR FACING SOUTH EAST :

The Black Star # 2 brings you arguments, misunderstandings, disputes, gossips, stress, food poisoning and gastrointestinal problems, respiratory problems, gynaecological problems and sickness to many in the family. The womenfolk will suffer the most. Even your best neighbours will turn hostile. Hang a large sized natural, original Chinese Wou-Lou near the maindoor and in the bedroom.

Married couple will tend to have more disagreements and disharmony will prevail. Install the combined statue of Dragon & Phoenix or a pair of pink Mandarin Ducks in the bedroom. Minimise red and yellow coloured clothing, lighting, etc. inside the home. Alternatively place a Rooster figurine near the main door.

If you have a Rabbit or Dragon (according to the Chinese Astrology Zodiac Animal Signs) in your family, you may have to take special remedial measure to avoid seperation.

The Year Breaker Tsui Po which moves directly opposite to that of Tai Sui, corresponds to South East this year. This energy body too, should not be violated. Do not install any moving objects like Fish Aquariums or Water Fountains here, this year. Do not dig, construct, renovate, redecorate or repair this year near your main door. It is also not advisable to sit or sleep for extended periods, near your main door. If you do any of these to violate the Year Breaker, you will be inviting more accidents and health mishaps for your family members. If you had already started any of these work last year and would definitely have to continue to complete in this year, then hang a golden, metal Wou-Lou and a Wind Chyme near the main door.

If you have a secondary door that is not facing SE, then use it for this year. Otherwise, It is recommended to place an icon of Kuan Kung or Three Generations Dragon Head Turtle or a pair of Pi-Yau near your main door, facing SE, as even opening and closing the door is considered as “violating” the Tsui Po.

Display the “Safety Talisman for 2006” in the North West sector and carry a miniature version of it always.

Door Mat Colour for the Main Door : Grey or Blue (on the outside), with 6 I-Ching coins taped under it.

COMMON MINIMUM REMEDY FOR ALL BUILDINGS FOR 2006 :

To minimise damage due to gossiping and rumours, arguments and disputes, avoid the colours green and blue in the center of your home. Do not place any moving water features like fish aquarium or water fountains here. Display 8 red roses without thorns and leaves in the center of your home/office/building and light up a small red coloured bulb which will burn continuously, 24/7. This is applicable for all buildings, irrespective of the direction of the main doors.

Are you ready to learn how to start scrapbooking, but aren’t sure where to start? Well, you’re in the right place - here is a quick-start guide on how to start scrapbooking.

Scrapbooking is a popular method of preserving and presenting your photos and memoirs. It’s a great hobby that anyone can enjoy.

In order to start scrapbooking, there are six items you must have. Here are the required items:

1. Photos or memorabilia: Scrapbooking starts with your photos and memoirs. Choose photos or memoirs that are meaningful to you and your family.

2. An acid free, lignin free album: There are a LOT of album choices. To keep your photos safe over time, you must have a good album with acid-free, lignin-free pages.

3. Page protectors: These are required to protect the finished pages in your album. Fingerprints and food are NOT good for photos.

4. Photo-safe adhesive: You must find a good photo-safe adhesive, look for one that you like to use.

5. Black pigma ink pen: Journaling is what adds life to scrapbooking pages. These pens are safe for journaling in scrapbooks.

6. Scissors: Sometimes you need to crop (or cut) photos to emphasize certain subjects. It’s necessary to have a great pair of scissors to use when starting a scrapbook project.

Once you’ve completed your scrapbooking needs list, it’s time to start scrapbooking.

The first step to start scrapbooking is to organize your photos and memoirs. You can organize your photos chronologically or by theme or by any method of your choice. It’s your choice, it’s your decision!

After you have your photos sorted, it’s time to start planning your page. The simplest way to plan a page is to place your photos on the album page and move them around as desired until you find a layout that appeals to you. Once you’ve found a layout that you like, it’s time to use your photo-safe adhesive and glue your photos on the album page. Spend a few minutes writing about the photos (this is your journaling). When you’ve finished journaling and have the photos glued on, you are ready to slide on a page protector and that’s it! You just mastered how to start scrapbooking! Easy, wasn’t it?

With the six scrapbooking must have items - photos, album, page protectors, photo-safe adhesive, black ink pen and scissors - you are prepared to start scrapbooking! Happy Scrapping!

Here’s your problem. You have a ton of music on your computer. Your computer speakers sound ok but music from your Itunes software would sound a lot better playing through your nice home stereo in the other room. If you run a cord all that way from your computer to your home stereo your house won’t be featured in Architectural Digest because it won’t look aesthetic. Solution? Connect an AirPort Express Base Station to your home stereo and play your Itunes music wirelessly. Sound difficult? It really isn’t. I connected one for a customer of mine some time ago. You will however need the right equipment and it goes as follows:

Your computer needs Windows XP or Windows 2000 , or Mac OS X 10.2.7 or later. ***This tutorial is written for Windows XP***

Go to http://hightechhomes.tv/airtunes.htm for a diagram of what it looks like when hooked up.

Your computer needs a wireless adapter. If it’s a desktop machine or a laptop I recommend a Linksys WUSB54G - Wireless-G USB Adapter 802.11G. If you are more tech savvy and don’t mind opening up your desktop computer’s case, definitely go with a Linksys Network adapter - Wireless-G PCI Card .

You’ll also need the AirPort Express Base Station .

Since Apple’s website does not tell you, I had to call to find out that the airport does not come with the cables you need to hook it up to your home stereo. To connect the Airport to your stereo, you’ll need either a mini stereo to RCA cable or if you’re stereo has the input, a toslink to mini digtal fiber optic cable.

Last you will need Itunes, which is a free download.

Once you have the necessary equipment you are ready to go.
1. Near your stereo receiver, connect the Airport to a power supply to give it power. Connect either the RCA cables or the fiber cable from the airport to the appropriate input on your stereo receiver.

2. At your computer, load the Airport Express CD that came with your Airport into the CD drive and install the software.

3. Once it is installed, go to Start > All Programs > Airport Express Assistant

4. You will be asked if you want to set up a new base station or make changes to an existing one. Choose to set up a new base station.

5. If the computer can connect to the base station, the software will tell you that it has found a new Airport Express named “Base Station xyz” . Click Next.

6. The next screen asks if you want to create a new network or connect to an existing one. If your computer does not already connect to the Internet through a wireless network, choose “create a new wireless network”. Note: If your computer connects to the Internet through an existing wireless network, follow the different steps for this scenario below labeled “If your computer connects to the Internet through an existing wireless connection that you already have”.

7. Name the new wireless network, you can call it something like “Apple Airport”. Choose a name for your base station. You can leave the default name or give it a new name like “Living Room Stereo”.

8. Finish by clicking the appropriate button (”‘finish” or “update”).

This should create the new wireless network. You now need to have Windows XP connect to this new wireless network connection that you created if it does not do so automatically (near the clock in lower right hand corner right click on your wireless network adapter icon, choose view available Wireless Networks, and join the new wireless network you created.)

9. After Windows XP connects to the new wireless network, open Itunes.

10. In itunes in the lower right hand area you should see a button showing how your music is being heard (it may say “computer” if you are listening with your computer speakers). Click this button and you should see the name of you base station. Choose it.

11. If everything has gone well and your computer is connecting to the airport, you should now be able to play your Itunes music through your stereo wirelessly.

There is a short video on connecting to your Airport using Airport Express setup located at http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/itunes/it4-3.html (video is for Mac OS X).

**Note** If your computer connects to the Internet through an existing wireless connection that you already have follow the above directions up to step 6, then continue here.

6. The next screen asks if you want to create a new network or connect to an existing one. Choose “Connect to my current wireless network.”

7. Be sure that “Extend the range of my AirPort wireless network” is not selected (unless you are using WDS.)

8. Click Next; AirPort Express Assistant will scan for your existing wireless network. Once it finds it, click Next again.

9. Choose the correct network (there may only be one) from the Wireless Network Name menu. If the wireless network is password protected, you will be prompted to enter the password. Enter the password and then click Next to continue (it may take a plain password or hexadecimal, or you may not have a password on your wireless network. At this point things could get a little tricky if you are a novice computer user. If you have a password on your wireless and are having trouble getting the password right, you may try reading this article from Apple http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106424.)

10. Enter the name of your Base Station. You can leave the default name or give it a new name like “Living Room Stereo”.

11. Click Finish. Airport restarts and tries to join your wireless network. Once AirPort Express has had a minute or so to restart, it should join the existing wireless network, as indicated by its status light.

12. Once connected open Itunes.

13. In itunes in the lower right hand area you should see a button showing how your music is being heard (it may say “computer” if you are listening with your computer speakers). Click this button and you should see the name of you base station. Choose it.

14. If everything has gone well and your computer is connecting to the airport, you should now be able to play your Itunes music through your stereo wirelessly.

Satellite phone and Cellular phones are wireless devices. They almost look alike. But the way they work is totally different. Cellular phones working method is cell based. That is why they are called cellular phones. The whole network area is divided into small areas. And in each area an antenna is installed. These are also called towers. When a cellular phone is moving, it keeps entering from one cell to another. When it crosses the border of one cell, the phone sends a signal to the MTSO (Mobile Telephone Switching Office). With the help of control channel the database of the MTSO relocates the phone in a new cell or area. The MTSO and Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) coordinate to handle cellular calls.

But in the contrary Satellite phones use Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellites. With the turning on of the satellite phone a signal goes up to the any number of satellites of a group with whom the phone is registered. When a person makes a call from the handset, a signal goes to the near by orbiting satellite. The satellite connects to the gateway or ground station. Then the gateway takes the call to the destination. The call can be directed to the landline, cellular phone or PSTN. Any of the landlines, cell phone or PSTN can also call a satellite phone. In the case of satellite phones the gateway takes care of calls not cells as in the case of cellular phones. If a satellite phone calls another satellite phone, the call reaches a ground station through a satellite. Then it goes up to the air to a satellite and then the call reaches the destination phone. So the gateway processes the switching of calls not the satellite.

It affects hundreds of millions of us each day while we are blissfully unaware.

Today’s high-tech world is drowning in data but is starved for knowledge. Data mining is the search for significant patterns and trends. It’s also been called the poor stepchild to statistcial analysis.

To give you an example you go to your local supermarket to buy food and you use your store card for discounts and fast checkout. It give the store a record of how often you shop, what foods you like and at what prices in this case it’s a win-win situation. This continues thoughout your day as you bank go to the mall, gas station, and so on.

However information is increasingly collected without your knowledge or consent. “Black Boxes” the size of cigarette packs have been installed in 40 million vehicles to monitor speed, seat belt use, and more. Only 5 states at the present time require that the buyer be made aware of this fact.

The trade-off is somone has a record of when and where you drive, what you eat, what over the counter medications you buy, whether you smoke or not, where you fly and with whom, what you like to read and watch and spend money on.

Any one item is not invasive but when birth certificates, credit histories, real estate deeds, military records, and insurance claims are pulled together it paints a very intimate picture. Add to the mix that the average person is seen by surveillence cameras 75X a day.

In the past decade an explosion of technology has taken place and the insatiable appetite of marketers for information about consumers has made data collection less voulutary and more worrisome.

Data mining is big business. Companies vacuum up data from public and private records, aggragate it analyze it and sell it to buyers ranging from private companies to the CIA. If an error exists there is no knowledge on your part thus it can’t be fixed.

Data thefts are on the rise included are banks, credit card companies, and the biggest of the data brokers Choicepoint. When their records were breach they left millions of people vunerable to identity theft.

In closing technology is here to stay and we love convience but we must be aware and remain vigilant. Also it’s time for Congress to step up and do their job to create a basic bill of rights for all information. This will provide us with much needed protection.
