Everyday the news tells of violence in the workplace and sex offenders on the prowl. The scary thing is that you usually never know who these people might be until it’s too late. How many times have you seen an interview of someone describing an accused criminal as the nicest person you could ever know? They would have never suspected this person of committing any crime until the crime had already been commited. A criminal background check could have easily put up a red flag about this person and it might have prevented a future incident.

With the popularity of internet dating, the threat of sex offenders seems to increase daily. It is estimated that the number of Americans using online dating services like myspace.com and match.com is in the tens of millions. Sex offenders now have easy access to millions of potential victims. So how do you protect yourself? You should obtain a criminal background check on anyone you meet online before ever agreeing to meet with them and never agree to be alone with them until you feel safe. When your safety is in question, don’t take a chance: get a criminal background check.

Violence in the workplace also seems to be on the rise. According to USA Today, an average of one employee is killed in the workplace every week in the United States. Furthermore, at least 20 workers are seriously injured in violent attacks by a current or former employee. How could these brutal attacks have been prevented? In most cases, a criminal background check could have revealed a history of violence and may have prevented many incidents from occuring. It is now more important than ever to know if someone has a criminal background or history of violence before you hire them.

The process of obtaining a criminal background check on someone used to be a hassle. It took someone with specialized knowledge and a whole lot of effort to gain access to public records of all sorts including criminal records and civil records. Now, because of the speed and convenience of the internet, obtaining a criminal background check on virtually anyone in the United States (and even Canada and the U.K.) could not be any easier. Whether someone has an unpaid parking ticket, or has been convicted of a felony, these public records are all available to anyone.

A criminal background check can and should be used in any situation where safety or trust is an issue. It is extremely difficult for anyone to know you are investigating them so you can conduct one in complete anonymity. Don’t become a victim of violence when you can protect yourself in such an easy and valuable way: do a criminal background check.

Robert Lear is the author and webmaster of the Criminal Background Check blog. This site provides information about how to obtain a criminal background check on virtually anyone in the United States, Canada, and the U.K. http://criminal–background-check.blogspot.com

Do you remember, from your early education days, how you used to select colors from the Crayola box to color inside the lines? Maybe later on, your grade school teacher, to stimulate your imagination, asked you what any one color looked like, or smelled like, or tasted like.

Poets, too, use their colors to trigger their thinking in similar ways. Most of the time, colors may be used as symbols implying intangibles or concepts.

Here is a short list of color implications in poetry during the recent centuries:

green = jealousy, rebirth, money

purple = royalty, enlightenment, fantasy

pink = happiness

brown = earthly qualities

orange = curiosity, wisdom

gray = depression, defeat, monotony, boredom

gold - happiness

red = anger, danger, war, seduction, passion

black = sorrow or death

white = purity but also death (implied from shroud)

blue= sadness

Aside from their symbolic and impressionistic use, the application of colors has added to the poems’ visuals.
” Sea waves are green and wet,

But up from where they die,

Rise others vaster yet,

And those are brown and dry.”

From Robert Frost’s Sand Dunes

Using colors in poetry goes a long way back in written history. Roman and Greek poets, like the poets of other races, used colors for their strong connections with emotions. For example, Homer used the color of bronze to imply power, and in Roman poetry, certain color combinations especially purple and gold hinted at royalty while red and white meant conquering and other concepts. Virgil alone used over 500 color words in The Aeneid.

“I myself gave him (Ulysses) a sword of bronze and a beautiful purple mantle, double lined, with a shirt that went down to his feet, and I sent him on board his ship with every mark of honor.” From The Odyssey - Book XIX

“And scarce their walls the Trojan troops defend:

The town is fill’d with slaughter, and o’erfloats,

With a red deluge, their increasing moats.”

From The Aeneid - Chapter 10

Later on, Dante used colors vividly to paint his Inferno’s image in the readers’ imaginations.

“Upon a yellow pouch I azure saw

That had the face and posture of a lion.

Proceeding then the current of my sight,

Another of them saw I, red as blood,

Display a goose more white than butter is.

And one, who with an azure sow and gravid

Emblazoned had his little pouch of white,”

From Inferno, Canto XVII by Dante Alighieri

Shakespeare, too, has used colors frequently and also the word color itself by attaching it to other nouns to further paint dramatic word pictures.

“SIR ANDREW

Ay, ’tis strong, and it does indifferent well in a
flame-coloured stock. Shall we set about some revels?”
From the Twelfth Night - Act 1, Scene III, by William Shakespeare

During last couple of centuries, the use of colors in poetry has become more subjective; although, the colors were also applied with their actual identities.

“Up rose the merry Sphinx,

And crouched no more in stone;

She melted into purple cloud,

She silvered in the moon;

She spired into a yellow flame;

She flowered in blossoms red;”

From Ralph Waldo Emerson’s The Sphinx

“With snow-white veil and garments as of flame,

She stands before thee, who so long ago

filled thy young heart with passion and woe.”

From Divina Commedia by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

“Within the circuit of this plodding life

There enter moments of an azure hue,”

From Winter Memories by Henry David Thoreau

“In winter, in my room,

I came upon a worm

Pink, lank, and warm.”

From Emily Dickinson’s ‘In winter, in my room,’

So, next time you sit at your desk with your pen or in front of your computer to write poetry, think about using colors. Maybe you can add another dimension to their usage.

I am from Missouri. The state suprises me the more I explore her. Tonight I am staying in a hotel in Branson, Missouri. Many of you are probably familiar with the city, I am not. Evidentally I was here at the age of 5,… but to be honest, if I can remember something that happened 10 years ago, I am doing pretty good… let alone 27 years ago!

Anyway, enough rambling about my memory condition.

Many folks have visited Silver Dollar City. For those of you that don’t know, SDC is a theme park modeled after the way of life in the hills of the Ozarks. The visitor will witness many craftsmen / craftswomen, one of these are the old-tyme (purposely mispelled) chandlers.

You may see an old man with a long white beard dipping wickes in a vat of wax heated by a fire. To someone who has been making candles for several years, this was an incredible sight. Obviously to the average candle burner, not to great of a spectacle unless that casual candle user has not idea how candles are made… in large factories in China.

Seriously though,… a lot of work goes into hand made candles. Of course many candle companies are born out of a basements, garages, spare rooms, and kitchens. Back in the olde (purposely mispelled) days, convieniences were a rarity. Candle distributers where unheard of, and they definately couldn’t import candles made in foreign countries buy the container full!

The wax was heated over fire… someone manually dipped the wicks. A lot of work, compared to today’s standards, went into making a candle!

Ok… by now you are asking me to get to the point. Next time you purchase a candle or candles (soy or paraffin), do you local chandler a favor and try a truly handmade / hand-dipped candle and check out the difference. Not only the way it looks, but the way it burns, how long it burns, and how it smells. You might be suprised, and you may change your preference in candle purchasing. The subtle differences in the wax alone will amaze you!

Your local chandler puts a lot of time, effort, and love into the candles they hand make. They take pride in their product. They are forced to produce a super high quality product to stay competitive in the marketplace. Sure, they may cost a little more, but as they say in the hills of the ozarks, “Ya pay fer what ya git!”

Visit us online at www.soywaxcandles.org for more information!

Will Reece ownes and operates several websites related to candles and soy candles. He is an experienced chandler and sells his candles online at one of his websites. Get into soy candle making by visiting his website, http://www.soywaxcandles.org. There you will find easy-to-follow instructions on making your first candle at home!

For a virus or similar program to have any great impact it needs to be able to spread from one machine to another. They are specifically designed to get access to parts of your computer system that allow for communication with other machines. Below is a discussion of some of the most common methods.

Boot Infectors

Every disk (hard disk, floppy, CD, DVD) contains a boot sector whether it is a bootable disk or not. When a computer is turned on, it looks for boot information. If the computer finds a disk with boot information, it reads that information and uses it to properly start the computer. If for some reason that boot information is infected with a virus, the virus is activated and possibly transferred to the computer’s hard drive (if the infection was on a CD for example).

Once the boot code on the hard drive is infected the virus will be loaded into your computer’s memory every time you start your computer. From memory the boot virus can travel to any and every disk that is put into your computer. This is how the infection spreads.

Most boot viruses could be on a system for a long time without causing problems, simply existing there to spread themselves. Often such viruses are designed to activate their bad behaviour on a specific date (Halloween for example). There are some nasty boot viruses that will destroy the boot information or force a complete format of the hard drive immediately after they get into a computer.

Program Infectors

When an infected application is run the virus activates and is loaded into memory. While the virus is in memory any new program file that you run can become infected. This means that there will be increasingly more applications on your system that are infected. Multiple infections are very common and will certainly cause system problems.

Program files may function without any problems for some time but eventually they will have problems or multiple infections brings the entire computer system down. The data the program produces may be a first sign of infection such as saving files without proper names, or with incorrect/incomplete data being saved.

Viruses of this type are often designed to seek out programs that are used to share information between users/computers such as email applications, screen savers, office document Macros, and self-extracting compressed files.

Through e-mail attachments

Many of the most dangerous viruses are primarily spread through e-mail attachments - files that can be sent along with an e-mail message. In such cases, the user of an infected computer unknowingly attaches an infected file to an email message, and then sends the email to a friend or colleague. When the email is received, the virus is launched when the file attachment is opened, thus infecting a new computer. Email messages with animations, automated greeting cards, jokes, photographs, spreadsheet and document files, all have been documented to contain virus files.

More and more frequently these days mass mailing email worms/viruses are being released. These attacks AUTOMATICALLY scan your computer’s files for any email address it can find and then uses your email application to AUTOMATICALLY send infected messages to any email address found in any file on your computer (not just email message files).

It is important to be aware of the emails that you open to make sure that they do not contain harmful viruses. Even emails from family and friends could have a virus, if that person’s computer is infected. This is where an anti-virus software would be really helpful in detecting if there is a virus in any incoming messages.

Antivirus software and general PC protection and maintenance are essential for safe and secure computing. Right now learn to easily block trojan horses, spyware, computer viruses, and other malicious software.

There’s no better way to promote your business for free than to
write articles on the Internet. It is particularly good for
promoting services, where advertising doesn’t work as well, even
if you can afford it.

All business is about relationship. You can’t meet face-to-face
with each person, or even reach them on the telephone every
time. Often your contact will have to be in writing. How good is
your writing?

I’D RATHER HAVE A ROOT CANAL?

Writing is right up there with public speaking for many of us.
It’s so public, and, in the case of writing, so permanent.

My mother used to say, “Never put anything in black and white
you wouldn’t want the whole wide world to see.” It’s a wonder I
could write at all! Scary thought, isn’t it. Since I coach
Emotional Intelligence (EQ), let’s turn that around and say,
“Put things in black and white you want the whole world to see.”
That’s the power of the pen, mightier, after all, than the
sword.

I went on to major in English and then to earn my living
writing. However, you don’t have to be a professional writer to
write something someone else can enjoy or benefit from, or to
write for your own enjoyment or wellness

YOU AREN’T WRITING FOR MISS CRUMPLESTINE ANY MORE

The first point you should know is that writing for the Internet
should be at the 6th to 9th grade level.

Not everyone on the Internet has a college education, or even a
high school education. We are all in hurry, and we want out
information fast. Short, uncomplicated sentences work well. So
do lists. No need for big words. Just clarity.

WHY WRITING IS SO HARD

Here is a scenario that happened to me repeatedly when I was in
public relations. The boss would call me in and say, “I don’t
know how to say this.” I’d say, “What is it you want to say?”
and I would have my pad and pencil handy. He or she would start
talking, and I would start writing And what I wrote down was
exactly what the person was saying!

I would then go back to my office, dot a few Is and cross a few
Ts, return the article to them, and they would say, “How
marvelous. How do you do it?”

Yes, of course I cleaned up the grammar and added or subtracted
some adjectives or adverbs, and maybe changed the order, but the
point I want to make is that if the person had just written down
what he or she was thinking, he or she wouldn’t have been far
from having a good enough article or letter. Yes, I polished it,
but the diamond in the rough was still there to be polished!

It happened just the other day, which is what prompted me to
write this article. Someone had written me an email with
something profound in it, and I asked if I could quote her in an
article. When I finished the article, I sent it back to her,
with her rather lengthy quote, and here is her reply: “GAD!
Seeing my words in print, I am surprised at my own clarity. Goes
to show that spontaneous reactions are often the truest.”

Then yesterday, I asked someone else if I could quote them, and
she wrote back: “Reading that you want to quote me I am awash
with emotions – pride, astonishment, surprise, delight, a little
scared, somewhat uncomfortable.”

IT’S AN EMOTIONAL THING

Do you see the emotion in what they’ve written back? We know
from Emotional Intelligence how emotions can fog the brain; the
analytical part of the brain.

How so? Many emotions go through your brain if you aren’t used
to writing a lot because of the thoughts you’re thinking,
because of your self-talk. Here are some:

·I don’t know how to write. ·I’ll say something stupid. ·My 6th
grade teacher said I was a terrible writer. ·Someone will
misunderstand what I write and I’ll get cards and letters. ·I
can’t do this. ·I hate to write. ·I flunked writing sophomore
year in high school. ·My last English course was freshman year
in college. ·I never finished high school.

WHAT WORKS

There are two major ways to learn how to write: read and write.

The best writers are those who have read the most. Why? Because
your brain is a marvelous thing, and picks up what you’re
reading, and you don’t have to learn any rules. Just as a child
learns how to speak. We all learn how to speak around the house.
Later on in school we learn grammar rules, but we’ve been
speaking for years.

You have to read the GOOD writers, of course. Read the hard
stuff. Dostoevsky, Faulkner, Shakespeare, Dante. This sort of
reading will benefit you in many ways.

Then write. A writer writes! Like any other skill, you have to
do it to learn it. You can read about it, and memorize rules,
and attend seminars, and go to workshops (and by all means read
Strunk and White’s “Elements of Style”(
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/020530902X/susandunnmome-2
0 ), a classic that’s now in its fourth edition) but you must
not stop there. You must start writing.

One of the best ways to direct the actual writing process is to
work with a writing coach. You won’t be able to judge your own
writing appropriately at first.

WHAT DOESN’T WORK

What will NOT work is learning some skills you are not able to
use because your emotions are interfering, or you don’t use
because you never sit down and apply them.

You must actually start writing. Like learning a language, it’s
practicing it that makes you fluent.

META

A meta way to improve your writing is to develop your Emotional
Intelligence. It teaches you how to manage the emotions which
are throwing obstacles in your path to learning writing. It has
the added value of helping you to learn in general, not just
writing.

It’s about getting the emotions out of the way that are
hampering you from learning. We all suffer from this to one
degree or another. We all had a teacher at some point who was
harsh or punitive, or a circumstance where we weren’t able to
learn it fast enough. Maybe we were rushed, and fell flat on our
face in public, or were embarrassed. Maybe we had a parent who
said, “Marsha will never be an artist,” or “Freddie can’t do
this or that.” Getting rid of the memory of these experiences is
managing your emotions, and part of Emotional Intelligence as
well.

WRITE ON!

One of the wonderful things to me about the Internet is the
opportunity it gives all of us to “tell our story.”

Get in there and write, whether you do it for publication, for
money, for fun, or to promote your products and services. You
have things to say that others need to hear!

Writing things out also brings clarity to your thinking process.
Studies show that writing things down improves your efficiency,
and even is good for your mental health.

Write on!

Computer hardware means the physical part of a computer and it is totally different from computer software or computer programs and data that are used within hardware. The hardware of a computer is rarely changed as compared with software and data, which are readily shaped, modified or erased on the computer. Normal users do not see most computer hardware as it is enclosed as embedded systems in automobiles, microwave ovens, compact disc players and many other household appliances.

A typical personal computer consists of a case in desktop and other different parts. Motherboard or system board with slots for expansion cards and holding parts including Central processing unit (CPU) , Random Access Memory (RAM) for program execution and short-term data storage. It also consists of PCI bus, PCI-E or AGP bus, ISA bus, USB and power supply that holds a transformer, voltage control and fan.

The storage controllers of IDE, SATA, SCSI or other type, that control hard disk, floppy disk, CD-ROM and other drives. Video display controller that produces the output for the computer display Computer bus controllers to connect the computer to external peripheral devices such as printers or scanners.

Some type of a removable media writer includes CD, CD-ROM Drive, CD Writer, DVD, DVD-ROM Drive, DVD Writer, DVD-RAM Drive, Floppy disk, Zip drive, USB Flash Drive, Tape drive - mainly for backup and long-term storage, Internal storage that keeps data inside the computer for later use. Hard disk is used for medium-term storage of data. Sound card translates signals from the system board into analog voltage levels and has terminals to plug in speakers. Networking is used to connect the computer to the Internet and/or other computers and modem for dial-up connections.

In addition, hardware can include external components of a computer system. Mainly the computer input devices includes keyboard, pointing devices, mouse, trackball, gaming devices, joystick, gamepad image, video input devices, image scanner, web cam, audio input devices and microphone.
Output devices consist of printer, monitor, audio output devices, speakers and headset.

These little refrigerator magnets go together quickly and make charming gifts for the holidays. Present them in a decorated tin for the perfect packaging. Try different stamps for different occasions–Christmas, New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, Independence Day. Also try mini drawings of your own, or even specialty paper.

Supplies

  • Card Stock
  • Tiny Stamps
  • Dye Ink Pads
  • Bottled Stamp Cleaner
  • Paper Towels
  • Color Pencils
  • 1/2″ Round Punch or Craft Knife
  • 1/2″ Button Magnets
  • 3/4″ Flat-backed glass gems
  • Silicon Glue

Before beginning, gather all the supplies listed above and lay out some scrap paper to protect the work surface. The gems will magnify the images, so make sure the images will be viewable under the gems by stamping or drawing on scrap paper and viewing through the glass gem.

Stamp images on the cardstock using dye ink. Clean the stamps with stamp cleaner and a paint pad. Open the stamp cleaner bottle and tap it on the stamp to saturate the rubber. Then tap the stamp on a paper towel and wipe stamp on a dry, clean paint pad to remove any remaining residue. Blot the stamp cleaner bottle on a towel to remove excess dye from the applicator tip. Cleaning the stamps immediately will remove any residual dye and prolong the life of the stamps.

Color the stamped images with colored pencils. Use the circle punch to punch out the stamped images, or cut out the images using a craft knife.

When the images have been punched or cut, put a dot of silicone glue on the image and gently press glass gem onto it. Do not press too firmly or too much of the silicone will be pressed out and air bubbles may form between the gem and the card stock.

Put a dot of silicone glue on a magnet and press the glass gem with stamped image onto the magnet. Repeat for each magnet. Let the magnet(s) cure overnight. Package the finished magnets in a decorated tin (spray paint an old mint tin and stamp, or decoupage).

At West Point, in a speech, President George W. Bush shared the doctrine of pre-emption with his cadets that he articulated as a countermeasure to September 11 attacks. Pre-emption, defined as the anticipatory use of force in the face of an imminent attack, has long been accepted as legitimate and appropriate under international law. In the New National Security Strategy, however, the Bush’s first administration was broadening the meaning to encompass preventive war as well, in which force may be used even without the evidence. This particular idea had still been severely debated and really staled but Professor Lawrie Challis’s invention has brought the President’s angle back into perspective.

A simple magnetic bead can reduce the radiation from hands-free mobile phones to virtually zero. His set of kits stops the radio waves traveling up the wire and into the head. His take was mobile industry should start using it as a standard and promote it as a marketing material.

Mobile Manufacturers Forum rejected Professor Challis’s call for them to be used on hands-free kits. They said, “Beads can have an impact. But the bigger issue is that mobile phones are tested to be comply with standards and have been passed safe.”

Reducing emissions to the head to zero is possible but manufacturers neglect to put them on hands-free kits. Ignorance is bless. Tests are king. The reality is, even one customer with skepticism of practices is enough for an avalanche in the industry.

Look at the tobacco industry… Undoubtedly, the most regretful people not to come up with such an idea like Bush’s were they. The most reviled industry has reached the peak level of saturation but could not cope with ceaseless accusations since the beginning of the 90s and lost enormous ground. The strategy of being contentious in good, old days - just like telecom is doing today - triggered looming litigation threats, which in turn, caused big tobacco companies’ stock market value to plummet dramatically.

Today, ranging from pharma to food, plenty of industries would be feeling the same pressure that tobacco guys had a decade ago. The lesson is obvious. If a considerably large company is somewhat related to health, it is to their benefit to take extra care of sanitary issues.

Professor Challis accepts that there is no evidence saying mobile phones are harmful to health. Though, he also points out that people have not been using them long enough for us to be sure. He, as the chairman of the Mobile Telecommunications and Health Research Program, has a concrete point.

Adding to that, customers need to see companies doing everything they could to better serve to their health. Customers are customers but they are more hostile than competitors when it comes to the reasons of their doctor visits.

The simple, softheaded strategy is pre-empting the attack through applying Challis’s technology. This is a golden opportunity given to the mobile manufacturers. Take it, don’t leave it!

On one of those “Today Show” with Matt Lauer, Donald Trump said: “I learned a lot from my brother who was an alcoholic… And I watched his life just be destroyed, I don’t drink, I don’t smoke. I never had a drug in my life … alcohol is a drug. I mean, alcohol and tobacco are both terrible drugs. And, you know, I’d like to see the lawyers start going after the alcohol companies, cause I think alcohol is a much greater detriment than cigarettes.”

Legendary icon can be called sentimental. Though, he is pointing fingers in front of the public and lawyers would be excited to follow his order. However, the reality is that, the effect would not be as bad as tobacco industry as they achieved to pre-empt the attack by expanding their product line into non-alcoholic beverages and transformed their holistic market message to ‘Drink Responsibly’. This has put industry into low-key.

Every possible way to improve end users’ healthy relationship with the product needs to be heeded. On some extreme cases, it may be unattainable. Then, companies should focus on health on their R&D purposes and align their product line accordingly, which can be named as pre-emption. Challis’s finding, in that respect, is given. Even though there is no sign of an imminent attack, it is the future where problems and past where answers lie. If mobile industry insists on not accepting it, customers will be there to hunt them down.

We live in a country where it is normal to treat our dogs as a members of the family – giving them Christmas presents (and receiving some from them, as well), taking them everywhere with us, dressing them up, giving them gourmet food, etc. As Americans, we just love our dogs! And why shouldn’t we?

One fun way to show our love for dogs is with dog jewelry. It is possible to find many different types of dog jewelry, but why not make your own? Making dog jewelry is a fun craft for kids or a great art project for adults. Make dog jewelry that resembles your own pet, or make jewelry to give away as gifts!

Here are a few ideas for how to make your own dog jewelry:

· Shrinky-Dink. If you have never used shrinky dink, it is about time you did! Be sure to follow the directions on the packaging… basically, though, you can color on the shrinky dink sheets (about the size of a standard piece of paper) – cut out a dog shape, color it in, poke a hole in it, then stick it in the oven (again, be sure to follow the directions on the packaging!) In the oven, your shrinky dink will shrink, leaving you with beautiful and detailed charms. You can add these charms to a charm bracelet, turn them into earrings, or make it into a necklace (to make these things, be sure that you poke a hole through it before you cook it!)

· Bottle Cap Dog Earrings. Take some favorite photos of your dog and cut out pieces that will fit in the underside of a bottle cap. Adhere the photo with Mod Podge (glue-like substance), then coat over the photo a few times with more Mod Podge. You can hot glue onto the back of these some earring studs.

· Doggie Bolo Tie. Pick up a bolo tie clasp (you can likely get one at a local craft store or bead store – if not, try to contact a Western wear store). Find a round and smooth piece of wood (it will be easier to find one at your local craft store). Use a wood burning kit to create a beautiful dog or doggie bone, or paint and then seal a dog on it. Glue the clasp onto the back. You can use a leather cord as your bolo cord.

· Bead Dog. You will need to head to a bead shop for this one. Pick up some wire (preferably sterling silver, at least 22 gauge), and also find a variety of rounded beads. Choose a large, rounded bead to be the body. Weave 3 pieces of wire through the hole – keep them long for now. The three wire ends at the front will be the two front legs and the head, the wire ends at the back will be the hind legs and the tail. For the tail, use lots of little beads, then twist the wire into a ball at the end to keep them on. The little beads allow your dog’s tail to bend however you want it. Use at least two medium size beads for the legs. For the head, use small beads for the neck, and a medium one for the head. You can paint eyes and a mouth on the head.

These are only a few ideas of what you can do to make your own dog jewelry. Be creative. Look around your house and see what you can use. Most of all, have fun!
