The revolution is just getting started and will begin to make
its mark this year. By 2010, it will begin to take off. By 2025,
it will be the standard for all TV viewing. It’s called Internet
Protocol Television, or IPTV for short. IPTV works with a
set-top box connected to any broadband interface and to a TV. It
will allow users to choose among thousands (and eventually
hundreds of thousands) of hours of programming, including
movies, sports, classic TV, etc., and download their selections
from the internet to the hard drive of the set-top box.
Initially, set-top box hard drives will be able to store up to
300 hours of programming at a time, but capacity will expand as
the technology becomes more refined. Also, download times will
become shorter and shorter as broadband connection speeds become
faster and faster. Eventually, a two-hour movie will be fully
downloadable in a couple of minutes. Once the programs are
downloaded to the hard drive, they can be viewed on the
connected TV at any time via a DVR-type interface provided by
the set-top box. Besides the convenience of an all
video-on-demand (VOD) environment, IPTV will provide a much
wider range of programming than broadcast, cable, and satellite
TV, or even major video chains, could ever provide. Because the
programming is available from the internet, it will be almost
completely unlimited and unconstrained. Programming from all
over the world will be available along with every imaginable
genre of niche programming. Also, previously unreleased
independent films that have been sitting on shelves for years
due to the lack of a distribution source will suddenly become
available to the masses via IPTV. Films that previously could
not be made at all will become a reality and be available on the
IPTV services. Long forgotten films and TV shows will have new
life breathed into them by IPTV. To top it all off, much of this
programming will be eventually be available in high definition
(HDTV)! Most IPTV platforms will be divided into “channels”, but
not the same kind of channels that we have grown accustomed to
with traditional TV services. In this case, a “channel” is
defined as a division of an IPTV service by individual content
provider. Each content provider carried by a given IPTV platform
will have its own guidelines for delivering programming on its
channel. Some will provide their content for free to everyone
who owns a given IPTV product. Some will be subscription based,
i.e., everything on their channels will be available for a
monthly or annual subscription. Others will be all pay-per-view.
Still others will provide a combination of all of the above.
Several entrants into this market have either already debuted or
plan to debut sometime this year. Among those are Akimbo
(www.akimbo.com), DAVETV (www.dave.tv), TimeShifTV
(www.timeshiftv.com), and VCinema (www.vcinema.com). Please see
their respective websites for more details, as each one will
offer a slightly different variation of IPTV technology. In
addition, a joint venture between TiVo (www.tivo.com) and
NetFlix (www.netflix.com) will be starting up later this year.
TiVo plans to eventually make the entire Netflix DVD library
available to its customers on an on-demand basis via a broadband
connection to a TiVo box and a TV. Other potential IPTV
contenders will be announcing their intentions over the next
year or two. One of these nascent IPTV services headquartered
near my home has already started placing “help wanted” ads in my
local newspaper. Within the next 20 years, all the fuss over
broadcast TV indecency will become irrelevant, as there will be
very little other than news and live sporting events on
broadcast TV. The major networks will shift most of their
entertainment programs to IPTV to avoid all the broadcast
content restrictions currently being enforced by the FCC.
Eventually, broadcast TV will cease to exist. Cable and
satellite services as we know them will also become extinct.
Yes, there will still be cable and satellite platforms, but
they, along with DSL and wireless internet services, will exist
merely as conduits for bringing broadband internet into homes
and offices. There won’t be any more cable and satellite TV, per
se. The now 60-year-old paradigm of television schedules in
which programs air at specific times on specific days of the
week will pretty much be a thing of the past. Everything, except
what’s left of broadcast TV, will be exclusively available on
demand via an IPTV platform. These developments in no way mean
that all TV programming will become more risqué. While there
will be plenty of risqué programming available to those who want
it, there will an almost unlimited supply of family and
religious programs available. With a veritable smorgasbord of
entertainment options at your fingertips, there will be
something available for all tastes. IPTV may not turn out to be
a TV utopia, but it’s at least going to come close that ideal.

New laws that mandate the use of cell phone headsets have recently passed in several states. In response, FreeHeadset.org has developed a program to provide wireless phone users with a free cell phone headset.

San Diego, CA July 26, 2004 - Several states are writing new laws mandating the use of cell phone headsets while operating a motor vehicle; however these new laws fail to provide assistance in obtaining a headset. In response, FreeHeadset.org has developed a program to provide wireless phone users with a free cell phone headset. Participants are only required to pay $3.94 for the cost of shipping and handling.

FreeHeadset.org founder Matt MacAdams identified the need for this program in his local community. Using his experience in the wireless phone industry, he started FreeHeadset.org in late December, 2003. Incorporated three months later, the company now ships thousands of headsets per month nationwide. “Using a headset is a very important safety issue that often goes gets overlooked. Our goal is to encourage people to use headsets by making it simple, affordable and convenient to obtain one,” said MacAdams today.

The FreeHeadset.org website uses a simple step by step process to make ordering easy and their web servers use 128-bit SSL security certificates to ensure safe online transactions. Live customer service is available online via an interactive Live Chat service. Customer support is also available by sending an email to cservice@freeheadset.org or by telephone at 888-239-9203.

When looking to outsource overseas for Plastic Injection Molds or Stamping Dies there are many things to consider.
Usually price is the first thing to be looked at, that’s probably why you’re looking overseas for a new mold or die source-to save money.
One of the first places to come to mind is Asia.
Large labour forces and low wages can get your job done quickly and cheaply. Or so you think.

When doing business in Asia you may encounter several common problems:

*communication problems: language barriers, different terminologies, engineers with little or poor English skills

*cultural differences: East and West business practices can be very different which often leads to misunderstandings, mistakes, poor quality, and delays.

*empty promises: sometimes the shops you will find can’t deliver what you need when you need it, they just don’t have the technology or resources to provide you with the quality you are looking for, many countries have poor infrastructure with communication failures and can’t make the delivery as promised.

*most shops in Asia are small and cannot do a wide variety of jobs, they may not be able to do everything you need for all your projects, you’ll end up looking for other shops for each different project. They may not be able to provide you with after sales maintenance and services.

*quality certifications: getting ISO certified is an expensive and time consuming process, many shops in Asia just aren’t qualified, they don’t have quality control programs, they don’t have the proper technology or experience to produce the products according to your exact specifications and timetable.

What’s the solution to these potential problems? Research and patience. You need to find the right agent to help you overcome these potential problems.

The qualities and services you need in your agent should include:

*multi-lingual/cultural staff:

staff members are fluent in English, and other languages. Staff members have a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, education, and experiences, extensive experience in international trade shows, seminars, and customer relations.

* a high level of technology, reinvestment, R&D, and has a solid, modern infrastructure to ensure reliable communication and dependable deliveries.

* a global network of services, access to a wide variety of tool shops for any kind of project, in-house engineers can design any type of mold or die that you require for any project, large or small, plastic or metal.

* uses only highly qualified tool shops for your project to ensure quality control, provide weekly feedback, sampling, and local site visits.

Is your computer running slower than it should be? Do you find
that de-fragmentation and extra memory doesn’t help? Do you
think it could be a virus? What do you do in situations like
these? I suppose you’d run your antivirus software. But what
happens when the problem still remains even after you’ve run
your antivirus software? In situations like these, many people
would turn to technical support. Does this situation sound
familiar?

Every day, there are thousands of Internet users who suffer from
the same problem. This problem is caused by nasty infectious
software called spyware. Over 10% of calls made to technical
support relate to spyware problems. According to Microsoft, 50%
of all windows based problems are caused by trojans, viruses and
spyware. http://www.spywarelive.com has relevant information on
combating spyware and its sources.

Adware, Malware, Trojans and Keyloggers all fall under the
umbrella name of spyware. Many times these programs are
automatically installed on your computer without intervention.
Depending on which program is infecting your computer, many
unwanted actions take place. Some of the things which could
occur as a result of having spyware on your computer are:
Settings may change Your computer can be monitored remotely Your
computer can be controlled remotely Your actions can be recorded
Advertisements can be displayed on your desktop

The most prominent spyware programs are:

Adware: This type of program download all sorts of
advertisements to your computer and displays them whilst you
surf the Internet. Key Loggers: This program records all your
movements and actions on your PC and reports directly to the
hacker. Dialers: A dialer is a program which he uses your phone
line to dial premium rate numbers. Browser Hijacker: These
programs change your browser settings so your start page and
search preferences are redirected elsewhere.

What is the difference between spyware and a virus?

A virus is a file or program which can cause actual harm or
damage to your computer. It can even cause problems with your
computer hardware. Spyware will not damage your computer but it
is a pain and nuisance to have running in your processes.
Spyware is intended to watch over or control you and your
system. Since spyware and viruses are two different programs,
antivirus software will not remove a spyware program.
Thankfully, companies which make antivirus programs are now
integrating anti-spyware components within their software.

How do you get spyware on your computer in the first place?

There are several ways this may happen. You may have elected to
allow browser plug-ins to be installed automatically. Sometimes
these contain spyware. Some web sites install spyware whilst you
your on their web page. Over 80% of these types of websites are
porn related. If you download or install games or pictures from
unscrupulous websites, you’re most likely to be infected with
spyware. The worst type of spyware is one which tells you that
it will eliminate infections from your computer but if you click
on the ad, it will install spyware instead.

What can you do about it? Use the Firefox browser. This will
minimize the chances of being infected. Be wary of sites you
visit and download items from. Keep your windows up to date.
Install anti-spyware software. Make sure your firewall updates
itself.

Look out for tell-tale signs of spyware infection, such as slow
responses, ads popping up, extra icons in your system tray and
unrecognised items in your task manager. If you notice anything
unusual do a full scan with recommended software. Make sure your
protection isn’t flawed.

Microsoft Business Solutions Great Plains is marketed for mid-size companies as well as Navision (which has very good positions in Europe and emerging markets where it can be easily localized).

Great Plains Sales Order Processing (SOP) module forms a third of the core Inventory and Order Processing part of Great Plains. SOP allows you to manage the entire sales process, from start to finish, with pinpoint accuracy. This makes you capable of serving top customers more effectively, monitor fulfillment and invoicing and more precisely, and streamline processes to minimize shipping costs and labor.

The SOP module builds stronger relationship between you and your customers by optimizing the invoicing and distribution process which speeds inquiries and order deliveries and reduces errors. Work the way you want by defining tracking numbers, information fields, fulfilled quantities, and other order entry functions to fit your needs.

Features:

• Repeating Documents – Save time and help ensure accuracy by transferring information from an existing sales order to a new sales order.

• Ship to by Line – Speed time to delivery through multiple ship-to addresses on an individual order. Send each line item on an order to a different site for that customer, saving order entry time and consolidating tasks for faster throughput.

• Credit Card Payment Processing – Avoid delays and costly errors by processing sales orders and credit card authorizations without charging the card or recognizing revenue until the order ships.

• Multiple Site Allocation – Manage inventory shortages by allocating inventory from multiple sites for the same item, as well as options including substation, overriding, or selling the balance.

• Prospective Customers– Track and manage potential customers as prospects, separate from existing accounts.

• Routine Documents - Create routine documents such as quotes, orders, and invoices, or more complex ones like sales analysis reports, in print or on-screen formats. Electronic search capabilities help ensure you find the information you need.

• Single Window Entry–Improve invoicing efficiency with single-window entry for streamlined access to all vital information, as well as batch processing and easy return transaction processing.

• Cross Module Inquiries – Keep the most important information in front of you while drilling down for more details; making inquiries across Microsoft Business Solutions–Great Plains applications; or bringing up customer payment, shipping, and billing information.

• Kit Items – Create kit items (groups of items commonly sold as a single unit) in the Inventory module and sell them through Sales Order Processing.

• Information Availability – Easily locate quantity ordered, back ordered, previously invoiced, canceled and allocated information about an item by accessing the Sales Quantity Status window.

• Unlimited Process Holds – Define, review, or change an unlimited number of process holds to sales documents.

We all know that it’s dangerous to use the same password for more than one program. If you sign up for a program run by someone of low moral fibre, what is to stop them running through various programs with your username and password to see what they can access?

But of course remembering all the different passwords can be a headache. And writing them down somewhere isn’t a great deal safer than using the same password again and again.

You can buy software that stores the passwords for you, but do you really want to pay money for another piece of software that performs a solitary function?

Try this simple, two-step, technique that lets you generate an infinite number of passwords, without having to remember any of them.

Step One: Choose a 4-6 letter word or number sequence that you can remember easily. Needless to say, don’t reveal this to anyone. For the purpose of this demonstration, I’ll choose the word “cash”

Step Two: Apply this secret word or number sequence to the name of the program you are setting up the password for.

To accomplish this, invent a couple of easy to remember rules.

Rule 1: Decide which part of the program name you are going to use. It could be the whole name, the first 6 letters of the name, the last 8 letters of the name. It’s totally up to you, be as creative as you like.

eg – For the program TrafficSwarm, I might choose the first 8 letters of the name. This give me: “traffics”

Rule 2: Take the portion of the program name you have selected and merge it with your secret word or number sequence to create a unique password. Again, be as creative as you can with this rule. You could replace every second letter, every third letter, every vowel or every consonant.

eg – If I replace every second letter of “traffics” with my secret word “cash”, I get ” t c a a f s c h

or

- If I replace every vowel of “traffics” with my secret word “cash”, I get ” t r c f f a c s “. The “s” and the “h” are not used as “traffics” has only two vowels, but some words will use all four letters of “cash”. Some words might have more than four vowels, in which case just start back at the beginning with “c” and “a” and so on…

You don’t have to worry about making your rules overly complex. Even the best code-breakers would need to see several of your passwords before they could start to guess what you rules are.

As long as you keep your rules safe and sound, your password is secure. But the real beauty of this system, is that you don’t have to remember the passwords you create. You ONLY have to remember the rules.

When you log into the program the next time, just apply your rules to the program name, and you can work out what password you generated. Once you have been using the rules for a while, you’ll generate the password in your head, without even having to pause.

Don’t worry if it seems a little complicated at first. Read this article through a couple more times and then try this technique with just a couple of programs. Once you are happy with it, all that’s left to do is to start working your way through existing programs and update your passwords. It’s time consuming, but for peace of mind you’ll be glad you did.

The traditional view of a “PC”
If you ask just about anybody what their idea of a “PC system” is they will probably list a tower, a keyboard, a mouse and a monitor. While it is true that these are the essential elements of using a personal computer, it is becoming more and more popular to use an alternative setup.

Sometimes two is better than one
It is becoming increasingly more common to see people using two towers with one keyboard, video and monitor. This is accomplished through the use of a KVM switch - as you probably already guessed, KVM standard for keyboard-video-mouse. This is great for people who need more computing power than they can get with one machine. A good example of this would be in a graphic design environment where you are consuming a high percentage of your available RAM and CPU power to run heavy editing applications.

Sometimes you need more room to be productive
For some people computing power is not a huge issue, but they could use more desktop space: enter the dual-screen setup. This allows you to have two monitors that essentially share your desktop. You can drag items from one monitor to another and if you have a long window you want to view, you can sprawl it out across both monitors. This is great when you need to use another screen as a reference or you want a static window that you can always check (with stock symbols, sales figures, etc.).

It’s not that hard to do
A lot of people see dual-screen setups and they think that it’s hard to do - it’s really not. First of all you need a dual-monitor video card. Do not try to use two single-port video cards - you will probably have IRQ conflicts that will keep you from using both at the same time - special software is bundled with all dual-port video cards that allows both ports to peacefully co-exist.

DVI vs. VGA
For some reason most dual-port video cards have one VGA port and one DVI port. I am not saying that dual-port VGA or dual-port DVI cards don’t exist, but I have never seen one. This can be kind of a pain because you might have two VGA monitors or two DVI monitors. Don’t worry - there is a solution. You can easily find a DVI-to-VGA adapter or a VGA-to-DVI adapter from just about anyone who sells you a video card. Be aware that if you have two DVI monitors that your DVI signal will be downgraded to analog, but the quality loss is almost unnoticable unless you have a huge monitor. Also, using a VGA-to-DVI adapter will not upscale your signal to a digital signal - it will pass an analog signal through the DVI port.

You will need to install included software
Regardless of where you buy the card from there will be some software that you will have to install to get your new setup to work. As I mentioned earlier, this will resolve any IRQ conflicts that would otherwise arise and give you some cool options for your desktop such as specifying which monitor should be the right-side of the desktop and which should be the left.

Be sure to uninstall your old card first
Whether you choose to use an AGP video card or PCI, you should definitely remove your existing video card first (and disable any software related to the old monitor). This will remove the possibility of a driver conflict and make you and the computer much happier in the long-run.

The only constant is change. If theres one thing we can count on in our life it is that whatever is going on now, will change. We live in an ever-changing universe. Everything in our world, including our very bodies is changing. The cells in your body are totally replaced every seven years. The seasons change as do governments, businesses, cultures, the sun, moon, stars, and, of course, us.

Unfortunately, it is our nature to resist change of any kind. I dont know about you, but I find this a bit strange. We are trying to resist change in an ever-changing universe. Unsuccessfully, I might add. The fear of change and fear of the unknown is so strong in some people that they will remain in abusive relationships, unhealthy environments, dead end jobs and many other self-destructive situations, rather than face the unknown. If you want to have a successful, happy and productive life, you must learn to accept, even welcome or embrace change.

I know it can be difficult. We become comfortable with the status quo, going along on our path feeling fine and all of a sudden wham! something happens to upset our apple cart. It can be something as serious as the loss of a loved one or a job or home. It may be a minor upset like rain on your vacation or a broken date. Whatever the situation, change or circumstance we must learn to handle it or we may be immobilized by it.

The best way I know of to deal with challenging situations is to ask better questions. Ask questions like whats good about this? Or, how can I best cope with this situation? Or, how can I make the best of this? I remember once being fired from my job at a TV production company. When the boss told me I was no longer need, I thanked them. You should have seen the look on his face. He expected me to be angry and was stunned at my response. I viewed my losing the job as the opportunity I was waiting for. He gave me the push I needed to start my own business and Ive never looked back. Of course, it may be prudent to seek outside help, especially in serious situations.

Dont be afraid to reach out for help. Our society has a support system for almost any challenge you may be facing. If all else fails, in a changing situation, remember the wisdom of the quote above: This to shall pass.

With the long-term trend of protecting employees’ individual self esteem added to an overriding concern over expensive employee lawsuits, accountability is more a buzzword than a way of life at most companies.

This is a state of mind that has existed since the 1960s, so the average employee has never received real quality negative feedback — the kind of feedback that might help startle him or her out of career-dashing behavior and toward a more lucrative and successful work life.

Smart employers realize that people are their only sustainable competitive advantage. Companies hiring this year will be looking for people who are highly capable in their fields of expertise and who energize the other people with whom they work. This will hold true for traditional employees as well as independent contractors who will continue to make up a larger and larger part of the workforce.

Don’t wait for this new world of employment, prepare yourself now to get the feedback from others that will help you develop into the powerful person you can be. First, begin to change the way you feel about receiving feedback. Listen to the messages you get from those close to you: your spouse, children, close friends, other family members. Write them down and consider them as food for thought. Begin to analyze common pieces of feedback objectively and develop ideas about what you might do if you wanted to change their perceptions.

A key factor to remember about all feedback: it is one opinion coming from another individual’s unique perspective. It is up to you to consider it thoughtfully, compare it to other feedback you have received and do something positive with it. It is impossible for us to see ourselves as others see us, but very important that we don’t allow these blind spots to jeopardize wonderful opportunities.

Here’s a system for taking in feedback for maximum benefit:

  1. When receiving any feedback, listen without comment, looking directly at the person. When they have finished, don’t make any statements, but do ask questions if you want clarification. Don’t accept, don’t deny and don’t rationalize. Because we are rarely taught to give feedback well, you will often get feedback when the giver is angry about something in the moment. Quality feedback may be emotional when it touches a heartfelt issue, but it is not abusive. If a co-worker’s critique gets to this point you should ask to stop the discussion and have it at another time when cooler heads prevail.

  2. Recognize the courage it took to give you the feedback and consider it a sincere gift intended to help you grow. Thank the giver for feedback - make it short, but something you can say sincerely, such as “You’ve really given me something to think about, thanks.” It is hard to feel real appreciation when you hear negative messages about your behavior, so it is important to have simple words of gratitude prepared ahead of time.

  3. Immediately write down all you can remember of the feedback, recording as many words used by the giver as possible. Allow yourself at least 2 days to process the information, taking no action to change your perceived behavior. Watch what you do and how other react to it. After a few days, go back and look at your original notes. Take out the emotion-packed words and look for the basic message.

  4. Know that feedback can be tough to receive, even if we solicit it and are grateful for it. Although it is simply another’s perception, it can shake up your feelings about yourself. Plan to do something nice for yourself when you know you are facing tough feedback. Try to do something that bolsters self-esteem - dinner with friends, or engage in an activity that you are particularly good at.

  5. Discuss the feedback with friends or others whose opinions you respect, but ask them not to react to the message. Tell them you are only looking for sympathy for the difficulty of going through a rigorous self-development process, but that you don’t want them to agree or disagree with the feedback. It would be normal to want to invalidate negative feedback, and to get others to help you, but you will lose what may be a critical grain of truth if you do.

  6. Use feedback in a positive way as soon as practical, not with the giver, but with others. Over time you may even want to tell others to lightly remind you if you slip back to old ways. “Jack, I don’t want to bug you, but you asked me to remind you if you started to get behind on those reports.”

You are ready to receive feedback when you:

  1. Want to know yourself as others see you and you are clear that this is their perception, not necessarily what is true about you inside.

  2. Trust your co-workers to care enough about your development to risk giving their opinion.

  3. Have a place outside work you can talk it through.

  4. Have opportunities for additional feedback so you get validation of the changes you have made.

Things you can do now to get more feedback at work:

  1. Find out if your employer has a 360 degree review program or is willing to allow you to work with your human resources department to develop a feedback program tailored to you.

  2. Look back at old performance reviews and see if there are common comments you can use.

  3. Consider hiring a personal development coach to give you alternative methods of getting feedback, such as personality testing.

  4. Decide to use the feedback to get a promotion or change career direction so that you have a reason to get involved in the process.

As you get to know yourself better, feedback will become less painful. You learn how to put it into a larger perspective and how to allow it to help you achieve your dreams.

Taking online surveys has proven to be an exciting, legitimate way of making money online. Market research companies have questions they want answered, they pay you to answer them, and consequently are able to make better marketing decisions regarding their products and services. It’s a win-win situation.

Unfortunately however, there are few people who are able to generate large amounts of income from online survey taking. Most panelists participate in one or two surveys monthly, and not on a weekly, nevermind daily basis. Why is this?

1)Panelists limit registration to one or two market research companies – there are no rules that state that one cannot register with more than one online survey company. Then why limit yourself? Statistically the more market research companies you register with, the better your chances are of being invited to participate in an online survey.

2)Panelists never confirm their registration – some people assume that just because they’ve filled out an online registration form with a survey company, that they are part of their database of panellists. This is untrue. Many market research companies require applicants to verify their e-mail addresses by clicking a special hyperlink contained within an e-mail sent from the market research company to the potential panelists e-mail address. Clicking on this hyperlink and verifying one’s e-mail account is an important final step in the registration process.

3)Panelists never check their e-mail – this is so obvious yet is overlooked many times. Online survey invitations are sent via e-mail. If an e-mail account is never checked, how can one expect to participate in survey and make money? E-mail accounts should be checked at least twice a week, but preferably, daily. This ensures that survey invitations are received and that they haen’t expired by the time they are read.

By following these simple suggestions, one can get a head start with online survey taking. Getting paid for your opinion is fun and can act as a great way to supplement one’s income. Good luck and have fun!
