Probably everyone at one time or another has collected coins. Some people save old wheat pennies they find in change and throw them in a jar. Other people collect state quarters, and some others collect certain coins like nickles or dimes, and try to build a complete collection over time. A lot of folks think coin collecting is the hobby of king’s and truthfully, it’s often called that. A king may be able to build a giant collection of coins, but I promise you, that the small collection a young boy has that may only be worth a couple of dollars, is worth just as much to that boy as a King’s coins are worth to him.

I can tell you right now, anyone can collect coins and you don’t have to be rich. In fact I have quite a large coin collection, and I have had a very low paying job all my life. There are a lot of ways someone can build a great coin collection over time, while still paying the bills.

Coins are so neat looking, I remember when I was a young boy, my grandad would go upstairs and open a safe we had, inside was a metal drawer containing some old Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars. My grandad would let me sit and play with the coins often. I would hold one by the edge on the table top and flip it on the side with my finger and the coin would spin wildly around on the table like a toy top. The coins were frosty silver or whitish colored and were beautiful to look at, they were large and heavy, not like the little coins we have today. I often wondered how many folks actually carried these things around in their pockets everyday, it only took a few of them to weigh quite a lot.

After my grandad passed away back in 1969, my dad sold the old silver dollars, I don’t think he really wanted to, but my grandad had left the family farm pretty deep indebt, so dad had an auction and sold about everything except our house and the barn, to pay off the huge bills. It wasn’t too long after that when dad got bitten by the coin collecting bug. At first it wasn’t coins but paper money that got dad started. I remember dad saw an ad in the back of some magazine, where a guy was offering to pay $2 for every dollar bill you sent him that had a certain treasurer’s name on it, that name was: ” Joesph W. Barr “. My dad looked in his wallet at some dollar bills he had, and sure enough he had one that had the signature ” Joesph W. Barr ” on it. Dad took the dollar from his wallet and kept it in an envelope in his old roll top desk, and after checking his money for several days afterwards, dad found some more of them. Sometime later dad mailed the dollar bills to the address in the magazine ad, and sure enough he soon got a check for the dollars plus an extra dollar each. Dad continued searching and sending in them ” Joesph W. Barr ” dollar bills for awhile, then after a period of time, the guy no longer was accepting them.

Dad then started buying a few Indian head cents and some buffalo nickels. Then as he got older and money seemed to get a lot more tighter, dad quit buying coins and turned to a new hobby, doing sweepstakes. But by this time, I was hooked, I just loved the look of the old coins, the silver ones and the old copper large cents, they just seemed so neat compared to the boring coins of everyday use. Now as I am writing this article, I stumbled across an interesting article about the ” Joesph W. Barr ” dollar bills from the ‘American Numismatic Association’ it said, the following: “At one time, it was speculated that the notes signed by Treasurer Joseph W. Barr would eventually hold a high numismatic value since he was in office for only 23 days in 1968-69. However, during that period, a total of 484 million notes were produced with his signature. The high quantity produced dictates that the notes will never be considered rare in our lifetime. Interestingly, in 1995, numismatic author Alan Herbert stated, “A $1 Barr note deposited in an interest-bearing account in 1969 would have been worth over $4.00, figuring 6% interest compounded annually. A circulated Barr note kept in a safe-deposit box for 26 years is worth $1 today.”

So that explains why that guy probably quit buying the ” Joesph W. Barr ” dollar bills, it seemed they might of been collectible for a little while, but they just never caught on. Today you can still buy them on eBay and other places, sometimes for slightly more than $1.00. Oh well, it is something that has stuck in my mind every since I was a little boy, I will always remember dad checking his wallet for ” Joesph W. Barr ” dollar bills. Now as I wipe the tears from my eyes, yes I am sad to say dad has been gone a few years now, and I still miss him very much, especially when I sit here alone and think about the times we spent together in the years gone by, oh well, at least it’s always great memories when it comes to you, dad.

Now as I regain my mental composure, if I ever had one, I want to say that I never lost the desire to collect coins. And as I got old enough to work full time, and live on my own I started and built a fairly large coin collection. I didn’t have much money as I never went to college or trade school, and I have always had a job working as a laborer, so I had to fine ways that I could build up my coin collection cheaply.

One day, I was looking in the back of a Coin collecting magazine that I had purchased at a local news stand, and I found an ad where you could join a coin collecting approval service. They would send you certain coins once a month, and you could select the ones you wanted to buy and keep, and if you didn’t want them all, just mail the others back to them, and the next month they would send some other coins for you to examine. What made this program better than the other approval services I had often seen was, you could tell them what type of coins you were interested in, and what price you were willing to spend monthly. I selected miscellaneous U.S. coins, everything from old large cents from the 1800’s to silver mercury dimes and buffalo nickels etc. And I chose to only spend $20 a month, for me this was perfect and for about a year or more I stayed in the program and over time I got a nice bunch of coins from them, then something happened and the company folded or went out of business, as I never received any more coins from them and I no longer saw their ad in the magazines.

Overtime I discovered other cheap methods to aquire some nice coins, one of the methods I still use, is something that anyone can do to start building a nice coin collection. Just start searching and examining your pocket change, I still find wheat pennies and silver war nickels, and many pre 1960 nickels, and sometimes a silver coin in pocket change. One time about two years back, I was at a local store and got some change back, I noticed two of the quarters I received looked kinda white in color, examining them closely after I got back home, I discovered they were both pre 1964 silver Washington quarters. I figured somebody must of needed money to buy some cigarettes or milk or something, and must of used some of their old coins, I was just lucky enough to had been there at the right time and place to get them in my change.

One place to find a lot of nice coins is to go to different banks and buy rolls, search through them carefully, and you will be surprised of the neat finds you may come across, plus just add a few out of your pocket change to replace the ones you want to keep from the rolls, and you can turn them back into a different bank for some different rolls of coins to search through.

Another place that is fairly good for finding some rare coins is at local flea markets, be careful though as many of the folks at these places are very aware of a coins value, and they often ask for much more then what the coins are worth. Read up on the coins you are interested in buying, or better yet, take along a pocket coin price guide with you when you go to buy coins, it’s better to be thrifty then foolish.

Anyway, now after collecting coins for fun over the years, I have almost every Lincoln cent that was made from 1909 up to present, and I have every Jefferson nickel from the first one that was made in 1938 to present, and I have a nice sized wooden chest full of miscellaneous U.S. coins, including silver dollars, mercury dimes, buffalo nickels, Large Cents and many more unique and rare coins. I figure the coins will make a nice gift someday, something to leave to my daughter and her children, and maybe I can spark that fire in them, that my dad started in me, the joy of coin collecting. So start checking your pocket change today, you just never know what rare finds you may come across.

There are several different types of computer software that are made for coin collecting. One program that stand’s out is ‘ Coin Collector Professional ‘, it is made for any coin collector, from novices to professionals, and it cost under $20. ‘ Coin Collector Professional ‘ may be downloaded and tried for free at this website address:

Stop Getting Lost

One of the greatest uses for a pocket pc is for gps navigation. Now all those people who continually get lost can find their way anywhere with the various types of gps navigation software available. No longer will they have the excuse of not wanting to ask for directions. The directions are easily accessible from their palm pilot.

The best pocket pc gps software has a gps receiver with it. This allows you to receive constant updates. Many of the best software products for your ipaq have some other great features, too. Some of these features include detailed maps for roads and streets in the U.S., Canada and Europe. These maps can be downloaded to and from your computer and often allow you to enter personalized information.

Other gps navigation software offers topographical maps, aviation maps and marine maps. For whatever kind of travel you do, there is a gps system for your pocket pc that will work splendidly. You no longer have to worry about being lost hiking in the mountains, flying a small personal aircraft or piloting your own boat.

The best gps software packages have extremely detailed voice guidance to keep your eyes on the road instead of on your pda. This safety feature should impress even the most careful driver.

Having gps navigation software on your pocket pc makes the world a much smaller, safer place to be and a heck of a lot easier to navigate. So, find the best pc pocket gps for you and never get lost again.

How many times per week do you run your antivirus protection or
anti-spyware or adware programs to ensure that your paranoia
about having an infected machine is just that, paranoia? With so
many problems in the computer infection world, one cannot really
blame themselves for checking up on their system on a routine
basis. However, do you ever really think about where all these
programs come from because someone out there must be sending
them out, they don’t just appear through spontaneous generation.
This makes one ponder the question as to who is sending these
things?

There are thousands of spyware, adware, and Trojan horse
programs that are running rampant throughout cyber space as you
read this article. But if you really think about it, just as war
might be considered good for the economy, these computer
infestation programs are good for the economy. If you are not
sure what I mean, just think about Spybot, Spyware Nuker,
Adaware, and countless other detection and removal programs.
This is a new sector of the economy that has only sprung up as a
result of those programs that can take control of your computer.

Just as with the medical industry making billions of dollars per
year on not finding cures for AIDS and cancer, because
financially these cures would allow them to make less profits
each. It seems like information technology companies do not want
to rid the world of all the infectious programs that can
endanger your PC. The reason for this is that they find profit
in the misfortunes of others. The continual emergence of new
Trojan or adware makes it necessary for people to spend money
for protection. If this sounds familiar that is because it is
the same philosophy employed by organized crime. You pay them
for protection but they are not going to do anything to
ultimately cure each case but just get more money from you after
something happens and tell you that it is not going to happen.

In short, Spyware is good for the economy because it allows for
more money to be reinvested into the market through purchasing
new and updated protection programs to keep you computer clean.
It makes you put more money back into the economy and allow the
software creators of these protection programs to prosper. Who
knows, it could be these companies that created some of these
programs that you need their software to cure. Just think about
it, spyware IS good.

Now that you have read that, please read this. If you believe
any of that, I have an oceanfront house in Oklahoma that I can
sell you at a great price. Spyware, Trojan programs, and adware
are nothing but a group of programs put on this planet to annoy
us at all times. Most spyware and adware programs offer you free
versions of their software that is sufficient enough to monitor
your system on a regular basis. Although, there are those that
offer a more detailed version at a higher price, most free
versions are sufficient. Spyware is not good and these programs
help keep it that way. Don’t believe the hype!

If you run any type of Internet business, Adware and Spyware can be a very serious issue. These programs hide themselves on your computer and do all sorts of annoying and potentially dangerous things.

Viruses spread on your PC. The good news is that Spyware applications usually stay put, much like a parasite. Spyware collects information about your messaging and browsing behavior and your online preferences with the intent to sell it to online advertisers.

Adware is an application which shows advertisements on your PC, including banners and pop-ups. Some Adware programs also track the usage behavior of the application user without the knowledge of that user.

If you find ads constantly appearing on your computer, your home page being changed repeatedly, mysterious toolbars appearing on your browser, a noticeably slower PC, or any other weird thing happening then chances are you have some form of Spyware or Adware on your PC.

It’s scary to know that you’re being “watched”, and that your private information that you assume is safe may actually be used against you. Adware/Spyware programs can enter your PC through email, instant messaging, or downloading files. It’s especially scary for the Internet marketer, because we are constantly purchasing and downloading new products and services online.

If you let Adware pile up on your computer, things can get pretty ugly. It was getting to the point where every time I opened my browser a search toolbar would appear on top (even though I kept uninstalling it) along with about 5 popup windows. I couldn’t get any work done without some kind of interruption every 2 minutes. Talk about annoying! And running virus software such as Norton didn’t help.

If you are finding yourself in the same situation, don’t despair. There are programs available (both free and paid) to help you get Spyware and Adware off your PC. It is not the intent of this article to try to sell you on any one piece of software. In fact, I recommend starting with free software, then evaluating your situation.

For Spyware, the best free program I’ve used is Spybot Search & Destroy, which can be downloaded at:

http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html

For Adware, the best free program I’ve used is Ad-Aware, which can be downloaded at:

http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html

These 2 programs got rid of most of the Spyware/Adware on my machine, but I was still experiencing some problems so I went ahead and purchased some software. There are a lot of good programs out there that will get rid of both Spyware and Adware with the push of one button. Most run between $25-$40.

If you are still experiencing popups or other symptoms of Spyware after running the free programs, do a little bit of research and upgrade to a paid version. Most offer some sort of guarantee, and the money you spend will be well worth the headaches and annoyances of Spyware on your PC.

For many years, novels and films have given us apocalyptic views of how easily mankind could disintegrate into ruthless barbarity once removed from the constraints of law and order, and the comfortable smooth machinery of “civilization”. But all that was just fiction, right? Not really. The reality is in the news.

While the people of New York City responded predominantly with goodwill and a heroic attitude to the World Trade Center attacks, it is important to keep in mind that the basic structure of the city – the services, facilities, and general day-to-day functions – were still intact. The disaster that has befallen the gulf states is an entirely different kind of animal. The entire city of New Orleans has been utterly devastated. Many peripheral communities and cities have been essentially washed away. There is no source of free-flowing fresh water, food sources have been severely depleted, virtually no energy infrastructure remains, although line crews from neighboring states are working feverishly to get power restored to critical facilities like the water supply system. Tens of thousands of people have lost their possessions, their homes, their jobs, and their entire way of life. As some of the survivors have put it, they are literally “adrift”.

While many people do have a positive, strong mental and psychological orientation, allowing them to forge ahead and find a way to carry on within the boundaries of law and moral principles, many others do not.

Poverty-stricken communities already have a tendency to have higher crime rates under normal conditions, due to obvious environmental factors. Many people in this environment often become dependant on the “welfare-state”, deriving some of their income, access to services, and food allowances from government-sponsored systems. In a “civilization-destroyed” scenario, these systems cease to function. In times like this, people who ordinarily would not resort to outright theft or robbery do so, and the more violently criminal-minded become even more ruthless and barbaric.

A disaster on the scale as that of the gulf states, where the ability of the government (local, state, or federal) to control affairs is seriously diminished, creates a ripe opportunity for the desperate and the criminal to exploit the misfortunes of others. And they’re doing it. Armed gangs roaming the demolished landscape, reports of rape inside the overwhelmed astrodome, boundless pillaging of every storefront or home left standing; these are the stark images that tell us just how fragile our domestic peace really is.

America is truly a great nation, populated by many great people. But there is bad among us, too, waiting for the opportunity to seize upon the misfortunes of others, whether for profit or just for plain pathological gratification.

Most mothers wont admit to this, but they are often quite a bit disappointed with the mothers day gifts they receive.
Don’t get me wrong, all mothers will be very happy to receive their gifts, and they will be very grateful for them, but they can see how little thought goes into them.

Most mothers receive gifts like chocolates, candies, or flowers. If they are lucky they may receive a card, a basket, or some jewelry. I have this theory that the older we get, the more we spend on our mothers day gifts, but the less time and effort goes into the present!

But your mother doesn’t want you to spend money on her gift! Sure, she’ll be much happier receiving a gift, than receiving nothing at all, but your mum will be much more excited by a gift that takes some of your time, rather than your money.

Try asking your mother what the favourite mothers day gift she has ever received was. I’ll bet it’s something you made when you were a child. It could be a ridiculous looking card, or a painting, but it will be some type of craft that you made. Don’t be surprised if she cherished it, and still has it in her wardrobe somewhere!

Well, why not make something for a mothers day present this year? You don’t have to be a child to make mothers day crafts- and you don’t really need to be that creative or crafty either. There are many things you can make that will look great, but won’t be hard to make.

There are lots of different mothers day crafts, but perhaps one of the easiest things to make would be your own mothers day card. If you’re good at drawing, or handy with graphical software on the computer, why not make your own card? Your mother will love you for it!

Are you good at scrapbooking? If so, then how about doing some scrapbooking, and making your mother her own personalised scrap book for this mothers day? There are lots of things you could scrapbook on, from events in the previous year, a summary of your mothers life up to this point, or a scrapbook of the entire family. I guarantee this will go down a treat!

Another thing you could do is make bouquets. For this mothers day, I am making some really cute looking candy bouquets. They cost almost nothing to make, look fantastic, and didn’t really take that long either. And I know what candies my mother likes, so I know she’ll enjoy pulling off bits to eat!

The important thing is to just think of some craft that you’re handy at and give it a go. Trust me when I say that your mother will appreciate mothers day crafts you have made, MUCH more than another insipid mothers day gift!

So this mothers day, please don’t buy another boring present. Why not try your hand at some mothers day crafts instead?

Organizing for success is all about planning and monitoring the
projects that you’re working on, right?

Well, not necessarily. If your life’s not quite the way you want
it, there might be a surprising hidden factor that’s inhibiting
your efforts. The problem may not be what you’re doing, but the
things you leave alone.

You see, your inner mind knows all you do — and DON’T do. The
picture that it gives you of who you are and what you can
achieve — your self-image — is made up of lots of influences,
but two of the most important are the things it sees you doing,
and the things you know you SHOULD do… but you don’t.

These things are sometimes known as incompletes. They can
include all sorts of things, from projects you’ve begun and
never finished and bills you’ve not yet paid to cluttered desks
or bedrooms and all the things you look for good excuses not to
start.

Some of them are big, important things and some of them are
trivial. Even if they’re all very minor, they can snowball into
a whole lot of inner criticism.

You can suppress it so your conscious mind won’t think about it,
but that won’t impress your inner mind one bit.

In fact, because your inner mind is so determined that it’s
going to help you get the things you want, and knows that this
is something that you need to do before that’s going to happen,
blocking the subject from your conscious mind can make your
inner mind try all the harder to bring it back to your
attention.

What kind of incompletes might cause you difficulties? The list
is just as individual as you are. Basically, it comprises
anything at all that makes you feel, at any level whatsoever,
uncomfortable that you haven’t done it yet.

>From filing your taxes to washing the car, from changing your
career to finding just the right gift for your mother’s
birthday, every single task you don’t control’s controlling
you.

The good news is, to put this right is easy. Incompletes
stop being incomplete as soon as you start taking action on
them. The moment you take charge of them you turn them into
projects that you’re working on.

For example, that neglected patch of ground outside your window
is now a garden you’re re-shaping, and a debt becomes a managed
loan as soon as you start paying by instalments.

As long as you keep taking action that’s appropriate, your inner
mind will send you signals of approval that transform your
self-esteem. The feeling of relief and fresh creative energy
this brings you has to be experienced to be believed.

To control all your new projects it’s a good idea to use an
organizer. It can be paper-based or electronic — even an A4
file with some dividers will do fine. The important thing’s to
keep the information in one place where you can review it every
week to check your progress. If you don’t, your new projects
will just drift back to being incompletes again.

For each one, plan the steps you need to take to finish it. You
can find lots of no-cost brainstorming and mindmap software
through an online search that makes this easy (and a lot of
fun!).

Give each step a deadline that you can achieve. For many people,
choosing deadlines is the hardest part - you can’t always tell
how long a step is going to take until you take it.

It helps to break each step down into the very smallest action
you can take on it, like making a phone call, getting some more
organizer stationery, etc. If you can put a realistic time-scale
on your smallest actions, you’ll find your target dates have
largely set themselves.

You can always change a deadline if you need to, just as long as
you’re making a real effort to complete the task. If not, it
doesn’t matter what excuses that you give your conscious mind –
your inner mind’s not fooled.

Once a week, review your progress. If you need more steps, or
see new ways, to get a project finished, or you become aware of
new things turning into incompletes, you can adjust your
planning to make room for them.

When you’ve finished your review, congratulate yourself. No
matter how much still remains to be completed, you’ve
established your control of something that has previously held
the upper hand with you.

That’s the first, and often biggest, step you have to take to
reach your dreams.
