I feel that it is necessary for women to praise, support, encourage, train and empower other women to be their very best. A noticeable difference between men and women is “men strive to be the best, while women strive to be their best”. Throughout my book “Empowering Women to Power Network ~ How to Save Time, Earn More Money & Live a Life of Success By Building Quality Relationships Everywhere You Go”, I honor women’s selfless duty to succeed while empowering them to freely work at their best so we can be the best in whatever we do.

It’s our turn to have a club or network of our own. We need a support system to empower one another to achieve our goal…a “chic chick’s club”, if you will. Chic embodies the smooth, the suave, and the sexy. Chic portrays an essence of powerful professionalism, demands high-standards, the finest quality, a web of wisdom, and true leadership! To be a chick means to have the ability to remain cool, hip, happening, up-to-date, righteous, and in-the-times. Being a chick brings out the emotions and beauty of our young-loving-heart, staying fresh in our ideas, spunky, and remaining excitable and enthusiastic at all times.

Being a “chick” shouldn’t be taken offensively and is not politically incorrect in my terms, for it resembles life at its purest moment—the innocence of birth. Think of the gentle, soft, silky fur of a newborn chick before it grows all its feathers. It’s to honor our lives at birth, and that of our children. After all, men can not take our childbearing and birthing ability away from us. So, embrace it as I do.

This is a network I want to be apart of, how about you?

DVD’s quickly exploded onto the market and people everywhere were scurrying to replaced their VHS tapes with DVDs. They do not come without their problems, though. The following lists some tips for keeping your DVDs in good working order and describes some common problems that you may find in your DVD collection.

These tips are designed to help you keep you DVDs in top condition. Following these tips will not guarantee your DVDs will last forever, but will prevent them from becoming damaged unnecessarily.
- Keep DVDs in their case when not in use.
- Keep DVDs out of the sun and away from heat.
- Always hold the DVD by the edge and in the middle hole. Never touch the surface with your fingers.
- Use a special cleaning cloth to wipe them clean. Avoid using anything that could scratch the surface. Compressed air can also be used to blow dust off.
- Wipe the DVD from the inside to the edge in one smooth stroke.
- Avoid bending the DVD when at any time.
- When removing a DVD from its case push the center button so it pops up and remove it gently. Do not pull on it.
- Do not stack DVDs out of their case.

Common problems you may experience with your DVDs are related both to use and manufacturing. The protective film on the underside of the DVD can bubble up or start to peel away. This problem can be due to manufacturing issues or from heat, stacking the DVD or rubbing against the surface. When this occurs the DVD becomes useless as the player can not read it. Any scratches will immediately make the DVD useless. Another big problem comes form bending the DVD. DVDs are made in layers and bending them can cause these layers to separate.

Most people invest much time and money into their collection and by following these simple tips you can avoid common problems that would make your DVD collection useless.

You’ve probably seen countless numbers of them, as you’ve grown up; family photo albums, collections of photos from vacations and special events, photo albums that provide a pictorial documentation of a child’s walk through life. Whether you’ve spent hours pouring over them or groaned every time that they’re pulled out, chances are that someone in your family has an addiction to photo albums. Providing a visual reference to relatives and happy times, photo albums have long been a tradition in many homes.

With modern technology available, it’s often easy to forget about the photo albums we once kept. Now, pictures are taken with digital cameras and posted directly online, many of them never seeing print. This leads many to wonder, “Are photo albums an endangered part of our rich history?” Many of us hope that this is not the case, but ask yourself when the last time was that you entered a picture in your album. The answer may surprise you.

While some may argue that photo albums are cumbersome and take up space, there is nothing compared to the look of wonder in a child’s eyes, as she slowly turns page after page in a photo album. The simple fact that someone took the time to stick the picture in an album and make a little notation, seems to have a wondrous effect on children. Nothing can compare to that magical feeling, when someone sits on that big sofa and points out faces, telling you the history of every picture; suddenly, the family photo album becomes more exciting than a story about pirates and the search for buried treasure.

Think that photo albums are drab and boring? Try sprucing yours up, it’s easy! Add funny quotations or newspaper clippings from days that pictures were taken. Pictures of a child’s birthday become even more special when decorated with a bit of the very wrapping paper she tore from her presents. Jot down your memories and add them to the book as it grows; you’ll enjoy reading your thoughts and dreams, somewhere down the road.

Photo albums are a world of their own, providing entertainment, historical lessons, and a walk down memory lane. While keeping photos online can be fun, it’s important to keep this tradition alive; if not for yourself, then for generations to come. One day, you too, can pull out the bare-bottom pictures and embarrass your grandchildren!

James Hunt has spent 15 years as a professional writer and researcher covering stories that cover a whole spectrum of interest.

Different browsers, different CSS interpretations! There will
be a time when you’ll need to hide some CSS rules from a
particular browser, or even all the CSS file! In this articles
I’ll try to compile all possible types of Browser detection
technics and provide examples. So let’s start with the easier
one!

Browser detection for Netscape

Netscape 4 is probably the dumbest browser when it comes to CSS
support, extremely limited and many times erroneous! As the
browser’s market share of Netscape is below 0.5% it became
natural to hide the CSS file from it! The method used for this
is the import directive that will make the browser to display a
version of the site completely without CSS.

Here’s the directive you have to call: (style
type=”text/css”)@import url(wise-designscom.css);(/style)

Browser Detection for IE Mac computers

This browser “died” when Microsoft announced there would be no
more updated versions of it. Now this browser fell in desuse and
there are a wide range of CSS technics that IE/Mac doesn’t
interpret well! Therefore many webmasters started to code their
CSS sites so that they would work correctly on this browsers.
Contrary to Netscape users, these weren’t neglected.

The hide technic:

/* Hide from IE-Mac */ #header {padding-bottom:3em} #footer
{padding-top:1.5em} /* End hide */

IE/Mac won’t see these commands but will display the content
even without those rules! Now… if you have a specific area of
your site that isn’t vital to your visitors you can just hide it
completely from this browser without having the trouble to even
try and make it look better within the possible! Here’s how:

#noiemac {display: none}

/* Hide from IE-Mac */ #noiemac {display: block} /* End hide */

The first rule hides it all from IE/Mac (e.g id="noiemac">content to hide here!

)

The second CSS ruledisplays the section cause Ie/Mac can’t see
it!

Browser Detection for Internet Explorer

For this one we’ll have to use the “child selector”. This rule
consists of two elements, the parent and his child! Let it be
html>body, body being the child of html the parent! As IE don’t
understand it, it will come a time when this knowledge will come
to be handy!

The typical example of the header margin:

#header {margin-bottom:4em} html>body #header {margin-bottom:1em}

IE will use the 1st rule cause it’s blind to the 2nd and all
other browsers will use the 2nd one!

Browser Detection for Internet Explorer 5

At first this one was strange to me! How the hell we have to set
different rules for different VERSIONS of the same browser?
Well, the truth is that IE5 doesn’t get right the box model!
When we specify the width of an element in CSS, that doesn’t
include the values of padding and borders. IE5 include these
values in the width, which leads to widths become smaller in it!

Let’s see the following example:

#header {padding: 2em; border: 1em; width: 12em}

For all browsers this width would be 12em! For IEe the width
would be 6em!! God! How is that possible? Simple: 12em (Width) -
4 (padding left + padding right) - 2 (border left + border
right)!

Is there any solution for this problem? Sure! A clever guy,
named Tantek Çelik (you’ll hear of him a lot if you read many
tutorials of CSS! This is kind of the most important discovery
since the wheel on CSS community!) invented the box model hack

He said that to make browser detection work , and send a
different CSS rule to IE5 you would use the following:

#header {padding: 3em; border: 1em; width: 18em; voice-family:
“”}”"; voice-family:inherit; width: 12em}

IE5 will use the first width value of 18em! 6em of which will be
taken up by the padding-left + padding-right + border-left +
border-right. This would ultimately give the element a width of
12em in IE5.

The 18em value will then be overridden by the second width value
of 12em by all browsers except IE5, which, for some reason,
can’t understand the CSS command that comes immediately after
all those squiggles. It doesn’t look pretty, but it does work!

I hope this articled helped you understand the different
situations related to browser detection in the CSS world! At
first it was confusing to me but with 2/3 hours of reading
anyone would be able to understand this … and understand well!

Quality assurance and quality control are essential components of every company that produces software applications. Quality assurance (QA) or quality control (QC) engineers are the resources that maintain the quality level of a company and its products. The industry term for this is QA/QC engineer. Quality control and quality engineering are involved in developing systems to ensure products or services are designed and produced to meet or exceed customer requirements and expectations. These systems are often developed in conjunction with other business and engineering disciplines using what is called a cross-functional approach. QA/QC engineers also test software to ensure total functionality meets ranging requirements of possible user demands placed on it.

Quality Assurance covers all of these activities; design, development, production, installation, servicing and documentation. The motto is: “fit for purpose” and “do it right the first time”. One of the most widely used paradigms for QA management is the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach. The main goal of QA is to ensure that the product fulfills or exceeds customer expectations. This is a precise science. You need to make sure that your product not only works but that the functionality meets the needs of your clients. A Professional QA/QC engineer will help you effectively create and test your applications ensuring they accomplish what is expected.

QA/QC engineers distinguish software faults from software failures. In case of a failure meaning the software does not do what is expected the engineer will take decisive action. A fault is a programming error that may or may not actually manifest as a failure. A fault can also be described as an error in the correctness of the “semantic” of a computer program. A fault will become a failure if the exact computation conditions are met, one of them being that the faulty portion of computer software executes on the CPU. A fault can also turn into a failure when the software is ported to a different hardware platform, or if the software gets extended. Software testing may be viewed as a sub-field of software quality assurance but typically exists independently. They examine and change the software engineering process itself to reduce the amount of faults that end up in the code or deliver faster.

A problem with software testing is that the number of defects in a software product can be very numerous. Bugs that occur infrequently are difficult to find in testing. A rule of thumb is that a system that is expected to function without faults for a certain length of time must have obviously already been tested for at least that same length of time. This has severe consequences for projects to write long-lived reliable software. A common practice of software testing is that it is performed by an independent group of testers after finishing the software product and before it is shipped to the customer. This practice often results in the testing phase being used as project buffer to compensate for project delays. Another practice is to start software testing at the same moment the project starts and it is a continuous process until the project finishes.

Now that we understand better the need for QA/QC engineers, it is important that you evaluate the longevity of the needed position. Does your organization already have an IT group? How busy are they? What are their expertises? Answers to these questions will help you know if you need only to consult with an engineer or if you should contract out the work. QA/QC engineer sometimes will fill a permanent position in an organization.

Imagine you have two empty glass vases.

One has a rock inside it.
The other has a tennis ball inside it.

We slowly start pouring water into the vases.

The Rock

Initially the rock is singing away quite merrily, thinking “Aah… this is lovely. The water is pouring in nice and slowly. This is great. I wish I had some more water, but with time more water will come”… and so the water continues pouring in.

At some point the water level rises to just under the rock’s nose. And it is starting to worry a bit. Perhaps there is now too much water for it to cope with? It starts scrambling around a bit.

Before it knows what has happened, its head is completely under water.
“Help. Help me. I’m drowning… I can’t cope anymore. This has now all become too much… Help. Someone help me… what have I let myself into???”

The Tennis Ball

As soon as the water gets to the tennis ball’s middle, it starts to rise with the water. And the more water that flows in, the higher the tennis ball rises. The result is that it is always on top and can never drown.

The average business person is like the rock. From day one trying to do it all by themselves. Taking on way too much of the detailed work… and not spending enough time actually building their business.

Statistics…

68% of businesses fail within their first 3 years of business.
The natural process for a rock in a vase is ultimately to drown…

What can you do to become more like the tennis ball?
What simple tasks can you outsource right now?
Even if you only start someone on a half day a week basis to help you out with something?

Growing a very successful business is easy.

Take it one step at a time - start small.

Start delegating your non-core activities, it will stop you from drowning sooner or later.

Should you consider a home security system?

Maybe there’s been a string of robberies in your area. Maybe you’ve recently come into the possession of a few priceless valuables. Or maybe you just decided that a double lock on your door wasn’t secure enough. You need a little more than that. Whatever your motivation, you’re ready to install a security system. Security systems—there are so many of them. What is a person hungry for a secure home to do?

Contact the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) or your state burglar and fire alarm association and request a list of companies in your area which are a member. Call several of these companies, and confirm that their employees are trained and certified by the NBFAA. Do the companies have appropriate licensing?

Do they screen their prospective employees before hiring? After you’ve narrowed it to a few companies, request the name of the person who will call on you, and make sure he arrives when all members of your household are there. When he gets there, ask for company I.D. Ask for an inspection, recommendation, and a quote—all in writing. Compare different price quotes and packages.

A security system’s price depends on how sophisticated it is. One of the good ones is the full-perimeter system, which has a series of sensors that detect when a door or window is opened, broken, or messed with. When a detector is tripped, an alarm sounds, and if the security system is comes with off-site monitoring, it will also notify local police. A number of other security systems protect you if someone makes it through your perimeter system and enters your home.

There are motion detectors, which sense significant movements within a certain range with infrared beams (these should be placed in central hallway, such as the main hallway or stairway), and floor sensors which, by the weight of her footsteps, can detect an intruder. Window or door screen wires activate if the screen is removed or cut away from the frame. Panic buttons can be placed within reach and can be activated if you suspect your home is being broken into—panic buttons also come as necklaces. Neat, eh?

But your security system is only as good as the monitoring service. Basically all companies monitor 24 hours a day, but there are other factors you should consider.

Security systems are monitored via the phone line, but that could be disabled by the intruder, and even by bad weather, so it’s a good idea to find a monitoring company that offers cellular or radio back-up should the traditional phone system go down. Find a company that offers annual maintenance, and also make sure your company signals your system to test it around once a day, and that the company responds when the system fails to.

But there are steps for your safety which you can take that go beyond your security system, and even without purchasing one. If you don’t want a security system, pretend you do. Get stickers that claim you are protected by such-and-such security and place them on your doors and windows. Acquire a Beware of Dog sign, whether you have a dog or not. Install dead bolt locks, and replace old doors with doors made of metal or hard wood.

Don’t surround your house and windows with trees and bushes. Make sure any sliding glass doors you possess have proper locks and can’t be lifted out of their frames from outside. Get rid of the chain on your door and replace it with a peephole. And, finally, know your area!

The best indication of how far you should go in regards to installing a security system is whether you are in a low or high crime area, whether your home is more accessible to burglary (for example, lower level apartments are more likely to be hit than those on higher floors), and so on. Know your situation, know your options, and protect yourself, your family, and your possessions

Palm and Research In Motion have announced a joint venture that will see the integration of BlackBerry Connect on Palms Treo 650 device and future models by spring 2006. BlackBerry Connect for the Treo 650 will allow BlackBerry Enterprise Servers running on both Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino email servers to push email and PIM data to Treo smartphones.

“The BlackBerry architecture and infrastructure are recognized around the world as secure, manageable, reliable and scalable, and we are extremely pleased to broaden the choice of BlackBerry-enabled handsets with the Treo 650,” said Jim Balsillie, chairman and co-CEO at RIM.

This week has already seen the announcement of BlackBerry Connect on three new Nokia models branded the E-Series due out early next year, so it’s no surprise to see RIM spreading their wings to other key handset manufacturers, especially those who, like Palm, are primarily focused on business users and mobile workers.

Few people think too long and hard about their computer speakers, instead preferring to just use the ones that came with their computers. These speakers are often built-in and poor quality, especially on laptop systems, and do not do justice to the very good sound quality that most computers are capable of producing.

The price range in computer speakers is even greater than that in other electronic products – you can pay anywhere from the price of a pair of headphones to as much as the computer itself cost you. It is natural, therefore, to be unsure of exactly what your money is getting you, which is where this article can hopefully be of some help.

Perhaps the most important thing you should look for when choosing your speakers is their maximum output power, which is measured in watts. This number tells you how good the speakers will sound at different volumes – while almost all speakers can sound good at low volumes, only ones with very high maximum output power will sound good at higher volumes. The higher the volume you plan to use, the more power you need.

Another important consideration is whether the speakers can produce either 5-speaker or 7-speaker surround sound, which makes a big difference over traditional 2-speaker systems. You should also check whether the speakers come with a subwoofer, which is a special loudspeaker for bass, allowing you to better hear the beat of your music. However, many people actually consider subwoofers undesirable, as they are so large and don’t always fit in well with a computer setup.

It is only really worth splashing out on speakers if you often use your computer for gaming or for playing music. If you do, then you might consider that there’s nothing to say so-called ‘computer’ speakers are only for computers – with a little imaginative wiring, you can also hook them up to televisions, games consoles, mp3 players, and all sorts of other things besides. This works in reverse, too, so if you already have a good pair of speakers, it should be relatively simple to connect them up to your computer and get some very good sound that way.

John Gibb is the owner of computer speakers sources, For more information on computer-speakers please check out http://www.computer-speakers-sources.info

Imagine this: after forcing the kids to stop countless times to pose for the perfect picture, you come home to find that the priceless memories you thought you had conserved are gone. Without a trace it seems you have lost your digital photos for good. Maybe you accidentally deleted or formatted the card; maybe the card was pulled out when the camera was still on? Or the camera was turned off during a write process?

But all may not be lost quite yet. Is it true that recovery is still possible when we think that the photos files are gone for eternity?

Experts suggest that there are different ways to recover digital images that we believe we have lost. A lot depends on how you lost the image, of course. For instance, if you just put it in your recycle bin, click on the ‘restore’ or ‘undelete’ button there, and your image is retrieved (easy enough!). This is the most common mistakes that individuals make and many can save a trip to the file recovery technician simply by checking the recycle bin.

All image recoveries are not as simple as this, of course. There are instances when data corruption occurs, and therefore your files are inaccessible. For the more complex recoveries, you can seek out good software that is created specifically for this purpose. Alternately, you can take the help of a good service that will assist you in the process of recovery and restoration.

A good software or service should be able to recover lost files such as photos, audio, video, PDF’s, and Office Files. It should be able to assist you with data that was stored within hard drives as well as removable media used in digital cameras, PDA’s and other storage devices. Images (JPEG, EXIF, TIFF, PNG, GIF, and BMP), RAW Image files (Canon CRW, Nikon NEF, and Kodak DCR), audio/video clips, Office Files, and PDFs are some of the files that can be recovered with the use of relevant software.

Different services and software packages use differing methods to recover lost files, but if you’re not technically minded, the details aren’t important. What is important is that the solution you choose has a good reputation and is competitively priced. The bottom line is, if you have lost digital photo files, there is no need to despair – look into ordering the proper software or service, and you can usually recover your lost images and files, so you can enjoy them for years to come!

Susan Kinley recommends Media Recover for digital photo recovery software and services.
