Passion Pushes You Forward - So Do What You Know and Love!

The process of starting a business or choosing a career is very
enjoyable and stressful at the same time. It’s a good type of
stress, but stress nonetheless. One way to keep your sanity in
the midst of growth is to do what you know!

Let’s say that your vision is to teach business, personal
development and internet classes. Narrow the list down to 4 or 5
classes that can teach in your sleep! Well, don’t take me
literally…please!! Teach classes on subjects you’ve taught
before or topics with which you’re very familiar.

Or maybe your vision is to operate a full-service, 5-employee
virtual assistant business — the premier place clients stop for
all their services. Here comes potential client “X” wanting you
to re-design a database for use on their web site. You take on
the job knowing that you don’t have any knowledge about
databases or web sites. My question for you is why?

If you are just starting a business or growing your career, here
are some questions to ask yourself…

~~What are you passionate about? ~~What is that “something”
thatyou do as a volunteer or would do without being paid? ~~What
do you do in your business now, that is very familiar. ~~What
would taking that skill to the next level look like? ~~What
skills do you have now, that others can benefit from, and that
will generate an income for you? ~~What are you doing to build a
strong business or career foundation?

Build your confidence slowly and surely as you build a strong
foundation. Start with what you know! I bet you know plenty!

The short answer is: “Whichever type fits your laptop.”

Laptop batteries vary according to the model and type of laptop computer for which they’ve been designed. All laptop batteries do, however, share some common characteristics that differentiate them from regular household batteries:

• Laptop batteries are rechargeable
• They are composed of multiple internal cells
• Within each laptop battery is a small printed circuit board
• Shape and location of terminals differ from model to model.

As is the case with all batteries, laptop batteries create an electrochemical reaction, forcing a stream of electrons from one position to another. Also like other batteries, laptop batteries have positive and negative terminals that receive and send electrons.

Rechargeable batteries are more complex, however, than standard batteries. This is because the electrochemical reaction that provides power must be reversible. Care has to be taken when recharging them to ensure they perform at their best.

Frank McLarnon, Lawrence Berkley lab’s staff scientist explains it this way to Scientific American.com:

“When a battery is discharged, an electrochemical oxidation reaction proceeds at the negative electrode, and an electrochemical reduction reaction occurs at the positive electrode. When one attempts to recharge a battery by reversing the direction of electric current flow, the opposite takes place: a reduction reaction proceeds at the negative electrode, and an oxidation reaction takes place at the positive electrode.

In the case of the rechargeable battery, the electrochemical oxidation-reduction reactions are reversible at both electrodes. In the case of the non-rechargeable battery, when one attempts to recharge the battery by reversing the direction of electron current flow, at least one of the electrochemical oxidation-reduction reactions is not reversible. When the battery is charged, the overall reduction reaction that proceeds at the negative electrode may not be the true reverse of the oxidation reaction that proceeded when the battery was discharged.

If the laptop battery process isn’t exact, then unwanted build up can take place on either terminal over time, which can cause a dangerous short-circuit.”

It is so important to ensure that your laptop battery or notebook battery is the one designed for your particular model and type. Only buy Dell laptop batteries for a Dell laptop computer, Gateway aren’t compatible with Compaq laptop batteries and Toshiba laptop batteries won’t sit well in a Sony.

It is also wise to remember that old adage: “You get what you pay for.”
Some companies offer used “cheap laptop batteries” for sale, saying that they have refurbished each battery and restored most of its useful life. The fallacy of this is that, although possible to refurbish a second-hand laptop battery, the cost to do so would be more than the price of a new battery. So, “Buyer beware,” and if you must buy discount laptop batteries, buy new discounted batteries.

Laptop computers are a boon to business, large and small. As a wise person is just about to say: “Look after your laptop and it will look after you.”

Today the internet is a mine field of malicious code looking to harm your computer. Hackers want to have access to your PC for both fun and profit. You must be diligent in your ability to detect and then protect your important computer data.

Understanding what hackers are looking for, what doors they use to gain entry into your computer and which programs are available to help you protect your PC against any illegal entry will give you greater peace of mind and protect your valuable data.

There are three types of threats to your computer that you need to be concerned about. The first are viruses. The definition of a computer virus is a piece of code or a program that is that is loaded onto and run on your computer without your knowledge. They can attach themselves to other programs on your computer. Some Virus’ can reproduce at a great rate and in turn use up a lot of your computer memory. This eventually can cause your computer to crash. You get Viruses most commonly via email or downloading programs and files. One way is in form of .exe files. If you receive an .exe file you should never open it unless it has been checked and approved as safe by your virus protection program.

Viruses can come into your computer in many other forms. You have to be careful with flash files, movies, mp3 and even .jpeg files. This is a good reason to have virus protection software installed on your computer. Companies like Norton, McAfee (McAfee.com), Trend Micro who makes PC-cilliin (trendmicro.com) and Grisoft (grisoft.com) among others make excellent virus protection products. Grisoft makes AVG Pro which is competent virus protection software. They have a personal edition which is free to use and is very good.

The next piece of software that is needed to protect your PC computer is a firewall. A firewall is used to block illegal access to your computer or network. It will block suspicious data from flowing into your PC and block unapproved programs outside your computer from taking data from your PC.

Think of a firewall as a doorman whose job it is to open a large locked door. When the doorman knows who is knocking at the door either by an announcement or because he recognizes the person he will let them in. With your firewall the firewall is unlocked only on your authorization allowing data to be passed on or received. It learns after awhile who is trusted and who is not.

A firewall comes standard with Microsoft Windows XP (Microsoft.com). But in order for it to protect, you must turn it on. Other solutions are Symantec’s Norton Personal Firewall which you can buy by itself or bundled in the Norton Security Suite (symantec.com). McAfee (McAfee.com) also has a good firewall as well as the free version of Zone Labs firewall called Zone Alarm (zonelabs.com).

And, finally you should have good spyware software to protect against hackers or companies from snooping to find information about you through your internet connection. It is commonly used by companies for marketing purposes. Free spyware software that is widely used is Spybot’s Search & Destroy (safer-networking.org) or Lavasoft’s (lavasoft.com) free version of their Ad-aware spyware application. Spy Sweeper from Webroot (webroot.com) is an excellent choice and does not cost very much. Spy Sweeper has received many top reviews from the computer magazines.

If you install a virus protection software, Firewall and spyware software your computer will be well protected and you will have peace of mind. And, you needn’t spend a lot. In each category you can find a free version that is very good and will help keep your computer problem free.

Email loss causes majority of business loss, to overcome the common problem the backup of Outlook Express mails can be taken regularly and this article is aimed at explaining you how you can backup your Outlook Express mails (Since, Outlook Express lacks a backup option). Outlook Express the widely used email program is usually installed with the Windows operating system. Outlook Express is fairly easy to use, but finding and backing up the emails can be a little more complicated. Since there are a large number of files and folders on a computer running Windows, the first problem is to find the files containing the emails. Outlook Express stores emails in .dbx files and it stores and maintains different dbx files depending upon the email folders created in Outlook Express.

In Windows 98, you can probably locate your emails somewhere in the Windows directory. In Windows 2000 and XP, emails are usually stored somewhere in the user data or application data folder. The common reasons for email loss are virus attack, software malfunction, power failures, human error and hard drive failure.

One can easily save and backup the emails, attachments, address book and other important data from within the email client to a CDRW or DVD; otherwise in case of a computer problem the user will find himself in the impossibility to get them back, and this can be a really unwanted situation especially for web community or people who rely on their emails. Unfortunately the common practice among us is that we actually start to do backup copies only after we lose data.

The simple way to find out and locate the actual path where your emails are stored is as follows
1. Start Outlook Express
2. Go to the Tools menu,

3. Open the Options dialog box.
4. In the Options dialog box, Select the Maintenance page
5. Click the Store Folder button.

Here you can find the path to the folder containing your emails. To open the folder, copy the path and paste in the address field of the Windows File Manager. You should see a number of .dbx files (depending upon the number of folders created) and possibly some other files, too. After locating the email folder, you can simply select all the files, copy them and paste it to a new location or you can take the backup on another hard disk, a CDRW, a DVD or a network drive.

How to backup Address Book
1. Select Tools >> Address Book… from the menu in Outlook Express.
2. Choose File >> Export >> Other Address Book… from the address book’s menu.
3. Select Text File (Comma Separated Values) as the export format.
4. Click Export.
5. Select the location you want to export your address book to using the browse… button.
6. Give your backup copy a meaningful name.
7. Click Next.
8. Select the fields you want to include in your backup.
9. Select Finish.
10. Click OK to finish.

If you have not backed up you emails so, take a backup now. If you face any email loss and you have no backup then don’t panic the Nucleus Kernel for Outlook Express – Mail Recovery Software will help you retrieve your deleted and lost mails back. The software uses QFSCI technology to quickly retrieve lost emails. So in case of email disasters try the demo of Kernel for Outlook Express – Mail Recovery Software. One of the biggest threats that computer users are facing today is the probability of a virus invasion. It is possible that your own PC might have been infected with a virus that you have downloaded unknowingly from the internet, or copied from other removable storage Medias like floppies or compact discs. While some viruses are capable of doing extensive damage to your system, some may be completely harmless but simply annoying. Whatever the problem is, it’s always best to try and remove these malicious applications (manually or using anti-virus software) before they can cause any harm, and without deleting sensitive and important files on your computer.

There is no one set of instructions you can follow to deal with a computer virus because all viruses are different. There may be variants but each variant may behave differently and independently. The steps mentioned here are general remedies that may be used if ever your system is infected with a virus.

Active and inactive viruses:

A virus is usually located in a file, and it can be in one of these two states: active and inactive. When the infected file has not been executed, the virus is in an inactive state, and is not necessarily harmful. In such cases it is enough to delete the file. When the infected file begins execution (when started by user, by operating system, or by another program), the virus changes its state from inactive to active, and begins to perform harmful activities on the system.

Identify the virus:

There is a webpage for every virus that has ever been identified by anti-virus companies, that explains how the virus executes itself, and usually how to remove it and disinfect the system. Here’s one useful resource available for identifying viruses on your computer:

The Symantec Antivirus Research Center Online Encyclopedia or the McAfee Virus Information Search Center (http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/vinfodb.html): Try using these virus search engines to locate information about the virus on your computer. The Symantec search is capable of identifying viruses according to the symptom experienced by the system (such as the subject line of the email message that contained the virus or the error message the virus causes on the computer), but it’s best if you know the name of the virus beforehand. Also remember that different computer viruses produce different “symptoms”.

Using Anti-virus Software:

Once the virus has been identified, the best thing to do next is to run an anti-virus software, scan and clean the system. If you have anti-virus software on your computer (most users do), make sure the software is up-to-date.

Most anti-virus software run periodical, scheduled or manual scans on your computer according to preference, and if fully updated, will promptly identify any malicious activity or files on your system. You then have the options of deleting, quarantining or analyzing the virus depending on the type of antivirus you employ. If you’re not too acquainted with the software, the only recommendation is to immediately delete the file, thereby eliminating any threat posed to your system’s security.

Protect yourself from future threats:

Once you have removed the virus(es), it would be a good time to make sure your computer is protected from future threats by following these simple steps:

1. Make sure the anti-virus software on your computer is always up-to-date

2. Run real-time protection if your anti-virus has the feature (most anti-virus software do)

3. Do not download or run any suspicious or unrecognized email attachments or file from the internet

4. Always run your anti-virus and scan any removable storage Medias before using them

Contact technical support:

If you can’t solve the problem yourself, you should contact technical support immediately by phone or email. Every anti-virus company has one. They will be able to help and guide you. Do not take any drastic steps, like formatting any of your drives, if you don’t have prior experience.

It is obvious that lighting plays a critical role in making your home safer. Yet, many homeowners don’t plan it well from the viewpoint of security. Here are several critical home security tips on lighting.

* All sides of your home should have security lighting in place, placed high out of reach. Make sure it is reasonably vandal resistant.

* Lighting near doors is especially important, because burglars tend to focus on doors the most.

* To reduce risk of burglary, any lighting is better than no lighting. If you see that any portion of the house or yard is not adequately lit, take care of it.

* Your garage is another critical area of your home. Make use of an automatic garage opener. Most garage openers turn on one or more lights when activated.

* To protect your carport, leave a light on. If you are going away, have a light set on a timer. Also have lights activated by motion detectors to deter intruders.

* In general, lights attached to motion detectors are the best choice for exteriors, particularly for the backyard. Connect an alarm as well and you will immediately get to know if someone moves around in your yard.

* Some people hesitate to use motion sensor type lighting because of the false alarms caused by small animals like cats and dogs. Proper placement of the motion sensors as well as correct settings for sensitivity will take care of this problem to a large extent.

* Using motion sensors in the front of the house requires careful planning, because they can be triggered by people walking on the sidewalk or by children playing. Nevertheless, it is a good idea to hook lights to motion sensors.

* Many people leave just a small light on when going out. This is done to avoid walking into a dark home when returning. Examples include hallway lights or a light in one corner of the kitchen / living room.

Unfortunately, this kind of lighting signals to would-be burglars that no one is home.

The solution is to leave several lights on. Leave a radio on as well. When going on a vacation, put interior lights and a radio on timers.

As you can see, your objective is twofold. One, to ensure that lighting can reach all nooks and corners of your home and yard on demand. Two, your home should look occupied even when it is not.

Follow these simple home security tips on lighting and you will have gone a long way towards creating a safer home for you and your family.

James Strobes is a home and office security consultant. For information on home security in general, wireless home security systems and more, see the foregoing links.

Electronic Distribution

How Electronic Distribution Works

The Problems of Distributing Prepaid Services with Hard
(Scratch) Cards

Introduction

One of the most significant developments in the prepaid telecom
industry in the last few years has been the emergence of
electronic distribution technologies, such as Prepaid Wireless
Direct point-of-sale activaton (POSA) will completely
reconstruct the way in which prepaid services are sold.

How Electronic Distribution Works

Prepaid Wireless Direct electronic distribution systems enable
any prepaid sevice to electronically transmit their services to
virtually any retail location. Prepaid Wireless Direct provides
an integrated POSA solution comprised of flexible and compact
point-of-sale terminal equipment, proprietary software,
transactional communications, protocols, and professional
services to assist retailers with implementation.

Once in the retail environment, consumers simply select a
product from point-of sale signage or displays and make the
approprate payment to the clerk who then inserts a wallet-sized
thermal card into the POSA terminal. After pushing a few key
corresponding to the desired product, terminal prints a prepaid
PIN along with usage instruction on the card. Prepaid Wireless
Direct also supports PIN-less delivery whereby the terminal
makes a real-time connection service provider. A credit is
instantly issued to the customer’s account. Within moments of
purchase, customers can use services.

The types of retail environments that are beginning to switch to
electronic delivery include wireless shops, supermarkets,
conveience stores, check cashers, food marts, university shops,
electronics stores, hotels and many more.

The Problems of Distributing Prepaid Services with Hard
(Scratch) Cards

Prepaid Wireless Direct has developed electronic distribution
services to address the many problems of distributing prepaid
mobile and other prepaid services through hard cards. Hard cards
are also known as scratch cards because the customer scratches a
panel on the back of the card to reveal a PIN or other secret
code.

The current and traditional distribution methodology of most
prepaid services involves the prepaid services involves the
provider printing scratch cards, warehousing them and fulfilling
orders to distributors. The distributors purchase large
quantities for providers, warehouse them and fulfill retail
orders. And retailers purchase the cards from distributors,
manage the inventory and sell the cards to consumers.

Each participant in the distribution chain encounters problems
with scratch cards.

Retailer Problems. Under today’s traditional hard card
distribution format, most retailers struggle on several fronts
to offer prepaid products

Retailer have a difficult time carrying the inventory costs of
prepaid services. The recent growth and popularity of prepaid
wireless intensifies the problem. With prepiad mobile, airtime
denominations are much more expensive the phone cards that most
retailers are familiar with. It’s common for one prepaid
wireless provider to offer 5 or more different airtime
denominations that range in price form $20 to $150 each. To make
things worse, prepaid wireless airtime is carrier specific,
meaning that Verizon prepaid wireless customers cannot top up
(recharge or replenish) their accounts with AT&T, Cingular or
any other providers’s airtime, and vice versa. This makes it
critical for retailers to carry airtime for all of the popular
national and regional prepaid wireless carriers or operators in
their area, something that retailers didn’t have to worry about
with phone cards. Today there is an average of six major
carriers or operators offering prepaid wireless in each of the
top 20 U.S. markets. Trying to inventory product for all six
could mean that prepaid wireless alone could account for as much
as 25 percent of a conveience stores total in-store inventory
costs. Many retailers simple cannot afford the cash outlay
required to successfully sell prepaid wireless services.

Retailer trying to minimize inventory costs often create
out-of-stock problems. In general, stock outages cost the
average retailer 6% of its sales, resulting in loss of billions
of dollars every year and high customer dissatisfaction.

To make thing worse, today’s airtime hard cards, also know as
vouchers, scratch cards, replenishment cards, recharge cards,
and hanging cards, increase the likelihood of fraud. The biggest
problem seems to be at the point of sale where easily concealed,
high-value airtime cards can be the target of both retail
customers and employees alike. To prevent comsumer theft,
retailers often put cards under lock and key but still suffer
losses due to employee pilferage. In the conveience store
industry, it is believed that as much as 80 percent of the
store’s shrinkage is attributable to employees. Retail employess
often feel underpaid and rationalize theft as a way to make up
for what they’re owed. As prepaid wireless airtime cards often
range in denominations from $10 to $150, employees can easily
conceal thousands of dollars of product in their pockets or
purses. Cards are also attractive because they can be easily
converted to cash on the street by offering them for sale at a
discount of their face value. Because they’re close cash
equivalents, prepaid wireless cards have become tantamount to an
underground currency in some places including Europe. Because of
the proliferation of theft reduction is the number one
investment priority among convenience store executives.

Additionally, each of the supply chain participants lacks
efficient inventory controls and reporting while battling fraud.
Because of the difficulties they face, and retailers that sell
traditional hard cards are in dire need of cost-effective
distribution solutions.

Electronic Distribution Solutions

Prepaid Wireless Direct products and services solve the
distrbution problems of retailers that sell prepaid wireless
(mobile) and other prepaid services.

Retailer. Retailers are increasingly demanding electronic
delivery for the significant benefits they derive.

By delivering prepaid products electronically, on demand, with
point-of-sale activation(POSA) techniques, Prepaid Wireless
Direct essentially allows any retailer to sell prepaid wireless
or other prepaid service without carrying any inventory. This
eliminates prepaid inventory costs that acted as enormous cash
barriers, prohibiting many retailers from selling prepaid
wireless or other prepaid services. What once tied up thousands
of dollars in inventory, now requires no up front cash from
retailers. Now virtually any retailer not only can afford to
participate in selling prepaid services, but also can expand
their product portfolios to include phone cards, wireless, dail
tone, credit cards, internet and more. In addition, they can
also afford to represent all of the popular prepaid wireless
service providers in their areas.

Also, because products are automatically replenished at POSA
terminals electronically in PIN or real-time formats, retailer
never run out of inventory. With Prepaid Wireless Direct POSA
solution, retailers avoid the heavy costs of out of stocks and
resultant customer dissatisfaction.

Once installed in a retail location, the POSA terminal virtually
eliminates theft by retail customers and employess. Because only
inactive products are on display, retail customers can no longer
steal valuable airtime. And because all retail employees are
assigned unique passwords required to accesss the POSA terminal,
the system creates an audit trail that details all sales
activity by date, time, shift and employee. This audit trail
provides a monitoring system that virtually eliminates employee
theft. With the POSA system, retailer no longer need to count
and reconcile scratch card inventory amounts at the beginning of
every shift.

POSA also reduces shelf space requirements and simplifies a
retailers job by consolidating all prepaid products into one
convenient POSA platform. POSA delivers operating flexibility to
the retail marketplace that traditional point of sale products
fail to provide.

Retailers also have 24/7 online access to reports that show
real-time sales activity by each of their locations. Retailers
can also print real-time sales report directly for their POSA
terminals. Reports can drill down to sales activity at
individual retail outlets by product, clerk, day, and time.
Reports come standard but may be customized to match the
retailers unique information needs. Retailers use sales activity
reports can also highlight sudden changes in sales at a
particular location. Subsequent investigation often reveals a
simple solution to boosting sales such as replacement of signage
that has been taken down by a window washer. Timely awareness of
problems and simple remedies often make a significant difference
to the amount of sales at retail.

Prepaid Wireless Direct is proud to be leading the way in the
electronic distribution of prepaid services through retail
environment. By delivering unique, industry-first features and
benefits, while supporting a growing list of platforms, methods,
suppliers, and products. Prepaid Wireless Direct is poised to
lead the electronic distribution movement into the future. In
addition to its current suite of products. Prepaid Wireless
Direct intends to introduce many more electronic product
delivery solutions as it continues to leverage the leading
technologies to create cutting-edge, customized products for
emerging customer segments.

The pull of popular culture is what is driving the current worldwide popularity of mobile phones. Owning a cool phone is considered the “in thing” and makes people feel that they “belong”. Popular culture is also the reason for the current popularity of certain fringe cultural outlets like world cinema or world music. It is not surprising that these two worlds – phones and world cinema – would meet and come up with a surprisingly new and fresh fad. Bollywood ringtones on your mobile phone.

For those who are as yet unfamiliar with the term, Bollywood is a term that has been given to the Hindi-language film industry in India. The term “Bollywood” is a mix of the names “Bombay” (which is the old name of Mumbai) and “Hollywood” the acknowledged center of the American film industry. The Indian film industry is one of the most robust in the world. It is considered as one of the most prolific in terms of the number of films released each year. It is also the number one when it comes to the total number of ticket sales.

The most unique (or most peculiar, depending on your personal taste) feature of Bollywood movies are the musical numbers incorporated into almost all movie offerings. This does not necessarily mean that Bollywood movies are all musicals. It is just that by tradition, a movie is not considered complete without a song and dance number. And unlike the typical musical, these numbers contain plot points and action that are not found in US-style musical. For most Indian moviegoers a movie that does not contain at least one song and dance number is considered incomplete and not worth the price of the ticket. Traditional Indian dance and music forms heavily influence these song and dance numbers. Even pop or modern songs and dances are injected with distinctively Indian elements that make them quite unique.

It is these unique Bollywood songs (also known as filmi music) that are gaining a renewed popularity as ringtones for mobile phones. There may be two major reasons for the growing popularity of Bollywood ringtones. First, Indian cinema is gaining a new level of international popularity in other countries. Film lovers are discovering that Bollywood films have merits that makes them so compelling to watch. Lovers of kitsch, on the other hand, find Bollywood movies fantastical enough that it captures their attention.

The second reason for the popularity may also be attributable to it being such a peculiar yet cheeky way of having a ringtone. A bollywood ringtone on a person’s phone may paint a picture of that person as a lover of film and / or a person who has a sense of humor and loves to bring something unusual to his phone.

Customizing your mobile phone’s ringtone with a Bollywood ringtone shows that you are a person that is both a lover of culture but not afraid to poke a little fun at yourself. These qualities may be the reason that Bollywood ringtones are becoming such a popular choice among people.

Philip Nicosia is the webmaster of Ringtones.lt, a site specialising in the different genres of ringtones, including Bollywood ringtones and Bollywood true tones.
