I believe that we have all heard of the standard romantic gifts. Chocolate, flowers, and jewelry, but there is something to be said for the man who thinks out side the box when gift giving holidays roll around.

I had the absolute best birthday this past year. You see, my husband has a difficult time picking out gifts for me and he has been known to give me things like a vacuum cleaner for Christmas. However, he really did a great job this year. You see, my children and my husband kept asking me what I wanted. I told them all that I’ve been saying things that I want for the last year and if they can’t remember at least one of them then there was something wrong. Ok, I didn’t say that to my children but, I did say it to my husband.

Off to the store they went. They came back with a potted indoor tree, a potted flower, and an office chair. To some women that may not seem too romantic. But to me it was just perfect. My oldest daughter picked out the tree. She remembered that I had just said a few weeks before that we needed more green inside our home and that I wanted to get a tree when we had the money. My youngest daughter picked out the potted flower. She is always bringing me hand picked “flowers” only to be dismayed a couple of days later when they are dead. I have explained to her why this happens. The fact that she remembered this explanation and decided that I should always have a beautiful flower to look at spoke volumes.

Now, my husband and the office chair. I’m sure many of you are trying to figure out how in the world I could consider that a romantic gift. It was actually quite a surprise. I was expecting something like the new release of the Charmed DVD, after all, that is what I had been desperately wanting (I even asked for it for our anniversary). I don’t recall saying that I wanted an office chair. However; I do recall complaining quite frequently about the little task chair that I had. I sit at my computer all day long and that little task chair was quite uncomfortable and left me with many aches and pains. My darling husband remembered my complaints and decided to solve my problem. Now that is romantic!

When it comes to gift giving it’s almost always better to think outside the box. Try to get your partner something that they have been wanting. Try to refrain from giving appliances for the gift giving holidays, even if it’s something your partner has said they would like to have.

To date, there has been a number of Apple iPod models. Well, with the release of the new iPod Video, there are now officially three iPod models for the 5th generation of iPods. The earlier 4th generation models, including the popular iPod Mini, iPod Photo, U2 and 20GB iPod are now officially history.

The three official 5G iPod models include the iPod Shuffle, iPod Nano and iPod Video. What’s the difference between this new range of iPods and the previous 4G models? Broadly speaking, the differences are:

Hard Disk

Two of the new iPod models, iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano, are based on flash hard disk technology. This new hard disk is ultra slim and is able to withstand shock and vigorous movement. Unlike 4G models, this make the iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano ultra slim and allow them to be used for vigorous activities, including sporting activity, dance, accidental drops, etc. Previous 4G models were less robust and vigorous activity tend to cause possible malfunction.

Battery life

Battery life on the 5G iPod has improved tremendously. One of the major complaints about 4G iPod was the short battery life(8hrs) and battery life draining away quickly after heavy use. The new iPod lasts up to 14 hrs and has a better battery lifespan.

Color is standard

Unlike 4G model, where the iPod Photo model was the only model with color, the new iPod Nano and iPod Video comes standard with color screen and playback.

Choice of video

With the new iPod Video, there is now a range of activities, including data, music, photo and video that can be supported on one iPod. Previously, video was not available as an option.

Standardized casing

The 4G iPod included the multi-color iPod mini, with a choice of pink, blue, green and silver. The only option for black was the U2 model.

Today, the colors has been standardized to black or white (except iPod Shuffle - White only). In addition, all iPod casing has been standardized to hard acrylic instead of the anionized aluminium for iPod Mini and hard acrylic for the other models.

However, the hard acrylic casing used for the 5G iPod models seems to have a tendency to scratch as reported by many iPod user websites. It is advised that a iPod casing or protector film be purchased for the new 5G iPod immediately. A good selection can be found here.

Compact Clickwheel

The iPod Clickwheel was previously a scroll wheel that was designed and supplied by a 3rd party. The new iPod clickwheels are now designed and produced by Apple itself. The functionalities are similar but users reported better response feedback.

Headphone jack

Headphone jacks for all iPod models, including the very first 1G iPod up till the 4G models, has always been on top of the iPod. The iPod Nano breaks ground by having the headphone jack at the bottom.

Which iPod model to choose?

As of this writing, the iPod Video has only been out for less than 2 weeks. The current 5G range of iPod seems to be the most complete and versatile thus far, and we can see that the 3 different models are essentially targeted at different segments of the iPod user market. A basic guide to choosing the right iPod model can be broadly classified as:

iPod Shuffle

The iPod Shuffle is obviously targeted at users who have a lower budget or those who only have an occasional need for a music player. The Shuffle comes without a screen and user can only choose to listen to music in a sequence or have it shuffled randomly. Because of it’s lower price, this model has become a choice for those who desire for an iPod but may not have the neccessary budget.

iPod Nano

The iPod Nano is now the mainstream iPod model with the exit of 4G iPod models. With a size and thickness slightly larger than a credit card, this is now a runaway favorite iPod model. Users have a choice of data, music and photo with this colored screen iPod.

iPod Video

The newest kid on the block, the iPod Video, is desired by those with a higher budget or who wish to watch video on their iPod. It has a slightly larger screen than the iPod Nano and play a crisp 30 fps video display. With not many iPod videos available for download as yet, we’ll need to see if this model can overtake the iPod Nano as the mainstream iPod model.

Katherine Xie has 4 iPods starting from the 2G model. She runs a popular website, http://www.smart-ipod-ideas.com, that gives tips on iPods as well as showcase quality iPod accessories from Japan. Please feel free to distribute this article as long as credit and reference is made to her website.

Creating backup for the data on an electronic device like a computer or a digital camera is very important. Most electronic equipments are bound to suffer crashes, leading to the erasing of all the data within. Creating backup for the data enables not only storage but also effective retrieval of the data whenever required.

There are many backup devices, including floppy disks, hard disks, other computers on the network, compact disks, and DVDs. Each of these has its own conveniences, risks and capacities. Use of these devices depends on several factors: the amount of data to be stored, the frequency at which the data is altered, presence of other backup devices, and the kind of files that need to be stored.

CD ROMs are one kind of a removable backup device. CDs are being increasingly used for storing files as they are inexpensive, easy to store, easy to transport, and have varying storage capacities. Some CD ROMs can take as much as 700 MB of data. They are also relatively safer than floppy disks or hard disk on the system. The data stored on a CD ROM however, cannot be altered. This makes them more ideal for storing permanent data. There are also other advantages from using CD ROMs for storing backup data: they have a high shelf life, they are not affected by magnetic fields, and they can be taken through airport security without any problem. They are nevertheless fragile and require careful handling.

CD-ROM recorders or writers have now become very inexpensive. A basic model is available for a price below $1,000 while those with optical drivers are more expensive. These days, most backup software programs are compatible with CD-drives and CD-recorders. There are many kinds and brands of backup software programs available. These are compatible with basic Windows NT/2000 configurations. Prices range from $30 to $3,700 or more, depending on the options and the features available. Veritas, Symantec, Acronis, Dantz, and Stomp are some of the popular brands in CD ROM backup software.

Backup Software provides detailed information on Backup Software, CD ROM Backup Software, Free Backup Software, Computer Backup Software and more. Backup Software is affiliated with Network Status Monitoring Software.

Our thoughts do not take leave of absence.

They are actually objects, beings, ever present in our minds at all times; every single one of them.

The database exists, and it is online; constantly, we have access to all the information that has been stored inside our minds through all of our experience of life so far.

Whenever a word, idea, or piece of information is mentioned in the present, our brains connect to our database, opening up chapters for reference in our gathering encyclopedia, sighting every word or sentence linked to the piece of information supplied from the outside world.

So in essence, with every word you hear, everything you see or sense, every thing you feel; an unconscious link in your mind refers to the stored information inside you … it’s like files opened and placed before you on your desk- like windows opening on your digital screen … and your mind instantly scans through them at lightning speed.

For our human brains are indeed the fastest computers in existence, this processing taking place in the blink of an eyelid, flash of a second.

But get this; your next thought and or action becomes a synthesis, re-absorption, and reproduction of the data flashed in your mind, so that you respond not only to outside actions but their reactions with the stuff within.

Note, note, for this is the point of our study; which is to determine the reason behind every action and thought for interpretation and prediction.

The stuff inside you is a part of the essential information that determines your actions and consequent thought. It is an on-going process, one bead after the other, creating the revolution and rotation of existence, a CHAIN that grows, one bead a consequence of the previous line of beads, to infinity.

[Which may be the reason the Chinese and Red Indians believed in karma, cycles of life and nature, and the often indigestible re-incarnation].

This amounts to an essential reason why it is important to try to control the information imputed into our systems at present … for they become our futures, just as our pasts become our presents, within the interplay of elements and circumstances.

For once again, there is no such thing as ‘change’ to my reasoning, only evolution.

Everyone is what they were and they will be what they are now. The illusion of change is projected from progressive or regressive evolution. People become better or worse at beings what they are, but the innate thing and substance of what they are does not change.

Our minds are encyclopedias. These biological and chemical machines simply work with the data they receive.

The things we read, the voices and messages we listen to … the objects we look at … the things that surround us [or we consciously surround ourselves with when we become knowledgeable], the in-streams of foreign thought and data that we do not possess originally [though the question becomes a tricky one, for what thought do we originally possess? Humans being created to be stimulated, senses useless instruments until they receive impulses. We seem to be restricted to think what we feel and nothing else save the primal instincts of hunger to keep ourselves alive and lust to experiment with our bodily endowments].

The ability to control the information we input must be preceded with the trained ability to identify the situations we place ourselves/or are placed –in, and to be conscious of the things that are hereby made to influence; directly or indirectly, knowing that each piece of information is being supplied to our systems at rapid, unimaginable rates, and that they do not fade into oblivion but remain for reference every single time a link is created in the present.

[Now I believe that there are such individuals that have acquired such a consciousness of the unconscious realm deliberately or intuitively, that they keep a substantial amount of their perceptive powers focused on their screens as security checks; scanning through the data conscientiously, creating their own willful synthesized reactions where they seek to suppress a reference deliberately, manipulating the motions of the thoughts in their minds and the actions of their bodies as far as they can help it. Unable to erase unwanted data supplied or already in existence, probably, but flooding them with torrents of information or feeling to shield, neutralize or obliterate them as far as they can be obliterated … pushing them to the furthest realms of the space within. And I intend to become a master in this art.]

The portion of our unconscious/conscious mind’s database [for it is shared by both spheres so that there is a union of knowledge, from sources within and without, inside our minds, that influence our bodies as wholes] is like a display screen we have our backs turned to [most of us], digital streams of a matrix passing just out of the sight of our conscious mind’s eye.

Our consciousness is totally aware of course. The sleeping giant.

The question then becomes; are you prepared to be on speaking terms with him? For most of us aren’t.

It’s amazing. We are the sum of our experiences; primarily the things people have put into us. We are the products of our mentors, even the ones we had no clue made existing significant contributions that continue to influence the decisions we make.

Every action or thought we make or possess in the present is a product of the experiences we have had in the past. We are living reflections or people, and we are a composition of people’s living reflections of people.

So strangely enough, people are the most influential factors in the determination of one’s actions and thoughts, and the path of one’s journey in life.

Every individual is a product of the individuals that have surrounded him physically and mentally [family members, friends, religious leaders and icons i.e. pictures and stories of Jesus Christ or Buddha, figures of authority, authors of books, movie characters on TV., artists and musicians on the radio, a man on the street, a teacher in a class, an object of one’s infatuation …] and filled his mind with thoughts through the course of these uncountable, almost infinite, number of distinct relationships with each and every one of them.

We all know the next step. Physically and mentally follow the paths to the places you want to be. Surround yourself with the thoughts you want imputed into your system.

Man was not created to be isolated. Man is not an Island. Hence we are never alone, constantly surrounded by people sometimes in body but always in thought. Man has never been utterly alone. Not even Robinson Crusoe.

Competition can be friendly and fun as opposed to back-stabbing and cruel. You do not have to deceive others for your light to shine. We all have different talents and abilities, in which makes us unique as women. So why are you trying to be like the women that you are competing against? Because you envy them and you are an insecure woman.

Insecure women have very low self-esteem, no self-confidence, and can’t even begin to think self-awareness, resulting in cruel remarks and judgement of other women that they don’t even know. You see, if you were so secure with yourself, you probably would have given a compliment instead of “She thinks she is all of that.” You really thought she was all of that, or you wouldn’t have made the comment in the first place. Insecure women have no identity and want so desperately to find one so they seek out the confident woman and mimic her every move, her mannerisms, and her style and in the same turn, always making negative remarks about her. Instead of wasting all of your insecure energies on trying to cause discomfort in the confident woman’s life, why don’t you invest positive energies into improving your own.

Confident women are confident because they believe in themselves and their abilities. They know what they are worth and no one can tell them different. They didn’t get this way by sleeping with the boss or deceiving others. They earned this confidence because of the struggles in their past, the perseverance in their present, and the contentment in their futures.

If you are an insecure woman and you are reading this article…..Get It Together! Stop trying to strip women of their confidence by digging your self-esteem further and deeper into the ground. Work on yourself, build your confidence and become self-aware. This way, there’ll be no need to envy what another woman has because you’ll be satisfied with what you already have.

Sincerely,
Monica M. Burns

The internet is laden with free things and ringtones are not excluded from this list. You only need a browser to get tons of free ringtones for any make of phone you have.

Typically, you only need to visit one of the hundreds of sites offering ringtones and help yourself to dozens of download available. Though some sites may charge a token fee, many of them offer their services for free because most of the tunes they use are no longer under copyright. Even when tunes have been under copyright, rintgone crazy webmasters have managed to seek licenses to produce tones out of them free for fans.

If you locate a site, the next step is to get the ringtone into your phone memory so you can select it as a ringer. There are several ways to get the tones into your phone: You can use a data cable to transfer the files into your phone, transfer through the net by SMS or manually type the keys on your phone to get the sound.
A more sophicated technology is to use infra red technology like bluetooth to load the sound onto your phone.

Though SMS is supposed to carry text messages primarily, enhanced versions can carry ringtones or sound files to your phone.
Another method that involves a third party is to select a ringtone and the have it texted to you after offering your phone number.
A cell phone with melody composer will allow you to compose tones yourself by manually pressing the keys in sequence to the notes of the tone. In this case, the site will show you the notes equivalent on your keypad and you only have to keep pressing the sequence to generate the tone you want. After typing, you save onto your phone and make it available for use.

Of growing popularity in ringtones are mp3 rintgones which are actual music converted to ringtones. With this system, the voice recorder of the phone can be used to record any sound such as voice or actual music and then stored as a ringtone. Infact this method has enabled many exotic and sometimes latest pop music to be used as ringtones due to its ease of application.
Now some sites offering free ringtones.

http://www.ringtonesgalore.co.uk has a well-laid out site with tones in several formats including key press sequence. It Features pop music and classical tines.

http://www.ringtones4all.com has an overwhelming volume of free ringtones in WAP, midi and key press sequence formats. It has an easy to use interface which suits beginners.

Ringtones help individuals to express their personalities and uniqueness. With midi and mp3 formats available, any sound at all – including one;s own voice, can be easily converted to a ringtone in a matter of seconds.

When you are going to upgrade your software for your PC or Mac –consider downloadable software in the first turn. Downloadable software is distributed electronically, through the Internet. This allows you to purchase the same content, quality and benefits as with boxed software. Instead of receiving a CD you download software from a server, and then you can make your own backup copy. Here are some advantages of downloadable software over the retail software programs that come in boxes.

  • No need to wait your order to be shipped or delivered to you (sometimes it may take you 2 or more days) – you placed your order, downloaded software and started working;

  • Receive software updates by pressing just one key – no need to enter a software store to pay extra money for a CD with an update;
  • You can purchase any software you want 24 hours a day, 7 days a week;
  • Lower Prices. Downloadable software versions cost less. This is because costs related to packaging, distribution, storage, shipping & handling are avoided.
  • No need to keep in your apartments different boxes, promo-discs, manuals and other useless stuff that comes with a retail software – download software itself and start using it at once;
  • No need to keep in your apartments different boxes, promo-discs, manuals and other useless stuff that comes with a retail software – download software itself and start using it at once;

But there is an issue you should definitely pay attention to:
The site that sells downloadable software is to be secure, all the transactions should be SSL encrypted. If you can’t find the boards with “Security statement: All transactions secured with SSL” on the main page you are risking to transmit your credit card information to the 3rd party which is not wise.

The companies that sell cheap downloadable software online have to provide fast reliable downloads. The time of download depends on several things:

  • Size of the download file
  • Type and speed of your connection to the internet
  • Overall speed of the internet

As a resume, what is the main advantage of downloadable software?

The main advantages of purchasing downloadable software are that it is convenient and saves time and money.

For one, you will reap many rewards. For another, it will relieve much work from your shoulders. But, do you need a banking software? This guide shows how to convert flash to mpeg and burn on dics. I used FlashonTV. If there is anything wrong, please let me know. I’d like to communicate with you.

First, launch FlashOnTV, you should select TV standard and background color. If you don’t know which standard your country uses, you can just select your country and the program will help you choose the standard automatically. Choose the background color you like. In the interface of Folding Setting and Output format, you can choose the FlashonTV working folder, the folder where video files as mepg format will be saved and VCD, DVD or SVCD which format you want to change.

Second, import the flashes you want to burn on the discs. The interface will display flash files’ names and you can Rename, Remove and Rearrange them. You can edit the flash files and disc space usage line will display how much space your disc leaves.

Third, choose Menu Designer, select your menu template, you can choose the present template or create by yourself. Also, you can download from website. If you want to change audio, you can select it from your hard driver as the back ground music. If you want to change template, you can add image and text to your menu template. The characters you imput in the text will display on the image. You can custom the menu image and drag the buttons and lie them anywhere you like. It feels good.

The outside temperatures have dropped. It’s time to check your fireplace.

Thanksgiving has come and gone, and Christmas is just around the corner. Have you checked your fireplace?

Homeowners are starting to order cords of wood, and getting their fireplaces ready for a fire. Some owners are even checking chimneys for bird nests.

A beautifully lit fire in the fireplace can add so much to your living area. But in order to have a safe fire, chimney maintenance is important.

At least once a year, you should have your chimney checked and cleaned if necessary, by a chimney professional. If you heat with wood, or if special circumstances of your chimney system warrant it, it may be wise to have the chimney checked more frequently.

“The best time to have your chimney checked is every year before the burning season,” says Chris Sparks, sales manager of The Mad Hatter, a chimney cleaning company.

Although we are well into the burning season, if you haven’t maintained your chimney, it’s a good idea not to wait. A chimney fire can easily destroy a house.

Chimney fires are serious. A hot, destructive chimney fire sounds like a freight train running through the house, and it’s not uncommon to see 30-foot flames shooting from the chimney top. If there is a chimney fire, get everyone out of the house and call the fire department.

You can avoid a chimney fire by learning to operate your fireplace correctly, and routinely cleaning your chimney. Many times what causes the fire is creosote. Creosote deposits are created from unburned, flammable tar vapors from wood smoke. They are often sticky or hard, and difficult to remove from chimneys. Long, slow burns, or the use of green or wet wood can create these dangerous creosote deposits.

Fire building seems simple, but it’s not like lighting a campfire or firing up the barbecue. Even the most skilled pyrotechnic wizard runs the risk of a major flop by trying to light a fire in a fireplace without knowing about the appliances and the correct way to use them.

A good fire requires not only a functional appliance, but also a good fuel. For the best results, use seasoned firewood – wood that has been stored covered for the better part of a year. Season your wood under cover, but with good airflow.

Unseasoned or green wood has too high a moisture content, and doesn’t burn well. Hardwoods, like oak, tend to be better than softwoods, like pine, since hardwoods have a BTU content, and will give a longer burn time and better performance. (A BTU is a “British Thermal Unit,” the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of water one degree Fahrenheit).

Believe it or not, super-dry wood – like that pile that’s been out in the shed for decades – isn’t good firewood. This type of wood will burn fast and furious, and it might throw a lot of sparks.

Do not burn anything other than seasoned firewood. Burning treated lumber, painted wood, trash, and such, releases toxic chemicals into the atmosphere (including your home). So recycle your pizza boxes and plastic wrap, and do yourself and our environment a favor.

Newspaper is great for starting a fire, but it’s not a replacement for firewood. Use just enough to start the fire, and recycle the rest. Don’t use sections with color print, as it contains chemicals that are unsafe to burn. Use the plain, black-and-white parts.

Now put down a layer of crumpled newspapers, snug, but not crammed tightly together. You want space for air to get in, or you’ll have a smoldering pile of papers. Put the papers under the grate.

Next, put down a couple of handfuls of small, dry kindling: twigs and small branches are fine, or small splits of wood. Crisscross them in a few layers, to allow air circulation. Don’t be stingy with the kindling. It’s the key to a one-start fire. Then add a few larger splits, and top it off with a couple of small logs. That’s it. Your fire is ready. Before striking the match make sure your damper is open. You may also need to preheat the flue.

The purpose of a fireplace is to provide warmth, comfort and atmosphere. Knowing how to take care of your fireplace can bring you these desired effects, instead of those undesirables, such smoke, foul odors and house fires. It’s all part of taking care of your home.
