Years have passed since the age of innocence in the computing
world. Nowadays, there exists an increasing variety of malicious
software programs as well as e-mail messages carrying them. Most
of these programs can either be classified as viruses, worms,
spyware and trojans. Amazingly, one of the victims of such
programs was Ed Gibson, Head of Security for Microsoft UK, whose
PC was infected by a dialer and started transmitting such
programs to other unsuspecting victims.

Before we start, however, here are some quick definitions:

Worms, Viruses: Malicious executable code that can copy itself
from one PC to another. Most of them don’t perform any other
operations apart from simply copying themselves. They can,
however, multiply like that very quickly and clog a system. The
famous Internet Worm actually brought the whole Internet on it’s
knees, back in 1988.

Trojans: Seemingly harmless programs but not really. They can be
disguised as utilities, or as a system process but actually
contain executable code intended for other tasks. A trojan may
contain a virus, or a backdoor through which an intruder can
have complete access to your PC.

Spyware, adware: Programs that spy on your PC and record and
transmit data such as the sites you usually go to, the fields in
on-line forms you use (such as your e-mail accounts, your credit
card numbers and generally everything you enter in a web form).
They are usually VERY poorly written programs and as such, will
often slow down your PC or corrupt your software. (Yes, if they
were really good written, they would actually go by unnoticed.
Lucky for us, most talented programmers have jobs writing real
software rather than parasites…)

Dialers: Programs that use your modem to dial numbers without
you being aware of them. With the use of broadband connections,
they tend to become a thing of the past. And we’ll not deal with
them in this article.

It is worth mentioning that in recent years, a significant
increase in the number of adware and spyware programs has been
noticed, with a subsequent reduction in the number of new
viruses being created. This can be explained as follows: While
viruses can be a serious threat and can greatly and irreversibly
harm your system, adware and spyware programs can actually
gather very important personal information such as your credit
card number and deliver that information to whoever was
responsible for the attack, which most of the times is the
creator of the program. An effective system security tool should
not just locate these malicious files on your PC but should also
be able to permanently erase them.

Most anti-virus programs can successfuly locate, identify and
remove viruses but things are not as easy when it comes to
spyware and adware. There is no product in the market that can
eliminate 100% of spyware. It is therefore recommended that you
install and periodically run at least two anti-spyware programs.
It would be better if at least one of your chosen anti-spyware
programs offers some kind of real-time protection. This means
that a component of the anti-spyware programs stays resident on
your computer memory and monitors traffic between your PC and
the Internet. If a web page tries to send malicious code to you,
or if an executable file tries to install that code, the
anti-spyware resident component will detect it and block it. You
can then, periodically run another anti-spyware program to scan
your disk, in case something was missed by the first program (as
we’ve said, no program currently detects and removes 100% of
spyware).

Finally, it is crucial to frequently update your anti-spyware
program or programs. New spyware programs are created all the
time and it might be often that you find your PC infected with
the latest spyware that your anti-spyware program failed to
detect before you updated it. So don’t forget to update your
anti-spyware about once a month to be as safe as possible!

While the information in this guide deals with a New Zealand example, many of the points are relevant in other countries.

When you come to setting up a radio station, you have two very different options. The first choice is to apply for a full power commercial FM license. This type of license allows you to broadcast over a large area. The drawbacks with a full power FM license are that it is often a complicated process, that no frequency may be available in the area you wish to broadcast, and that ongoing fees apply.

Another option is to set up a low power FM radio station. In New Zealand, there are no ongoing fees to operate this type of station - however you do need to pay nominal annual fees to APRA and RIANZ for music royalties. You do need to ensure however that your transmission equipment is compliant with Radio Spectrum Management regulations. Additionally, as is the case with any radio station, all your broadcasts need to comply with the Broadcasting Act. Fundamentally this means your broadcasts must be in good taste. The advantages that a low power FM radio station have over a commercial station is that is is much less expensive to set up at the outset, your likelihood of finding a suitable frequency are much higher, and there are far fewer ongoing costs.

When operating a low power FM station, you need to determine who your audience is. If you are broadcasting in an area where there are already a number of resident commercial stations, you may enjoy more success by broadcasting niche programming that appeals to an audience not currently served by the full power FM stations. Alternatively for those who are located in a more rural area or town, you then have the opportunity to set your station up as the local alternative to what is already available. Generally a local station competing against a station being beamed in by satellite from one of the main centres will attract a great deal of local community support.

When it comes to setting up a low power FM radio station, you need to bear in mind these points. The studio space should ideally be away from external sources of noise (i.e. not located next to a construction site), and should be a small room. Larger rooms tend to generate echo that can get down the microphone and on air. When it comes to the equipment, there are a few specialist items you will require. These include the transmitter and antenna system, a limiter / compressor, a unit to balance the audio, as well as a device to enable you to take phone calls on air. In addition, ideally your station will also have a mixing desk, microphones, headphones, CD player, audio cables, a computer system and radio automation software. You will also need licenses from APRA and RIANZ that cover your music royalty responsibilities. For the most basic setup however, it is possible to make do with simply the transmitter and antenna system and your music licenses.

In New Zealand, people broadcasting on a low power FM basis must use transmission equipment that meets spurious emission limits, and which has a maximum power output of 500mW. While this is a fraction of the power that a full power commercial radio station would broadcast at, provided you have a good site and the antenna is mounted correctly, you can enjoy coverage of up to 10 square kilometres. The frequencies you may broadcast on are 88.1 - 88.7 FM and 106.7 - 107.7 FM. The factor that has the greatest influence on how far your broadcast will go is the height of your antenna - the higher, the better.

It is also necessary to consider the following points:

- determine that the likely broadcast area of your station will not interfere, or receive interference, from other people broadcasting on low power FM freqencies in your area.

- you must ensure that your broadcast signal is adequately compressed and that is not too wide

- ensure that the radio automation software you use is reliable and is fully tested to operate trouble-free operation

- your station needs to be logically programmed in order to sound professional

- ensure that all your broadcasts comply with broadcast standards and other regulations

Developing a successful station involves much more than simply obtaining a low power FM transmitter, plugging it in and playing music on air. By carefully setting up your station and ensuring that your broadcasts bear in mind the target audience, you can be assured of much enjoyment, an insight into the fascinating radio industry, and perhaps even a new career.

Tony Katavich has set up several low power FM radio stations in New Zealand and has managed a commercial radio station.

It’s unbelievable how many guys have this problem!

I mean, you finally got the courage to walk up to that beautiful girl and tell her a pickup line that you thought sounded amazing and instead of her falling all over you, she acts cool and distant.

And basically tells you to get lost. Sound familiar?

If it does then you are one of the many men who haven’t a clue what women want to hear when they first meet a new guy. And you obviously need some coaching with your pickup lines.

Being a reasonably attractive woman myself I’ve had experience
with guys who have horrible pickup lines.

I’ve had guys try to start a conversation with me in the supermarket by (of all things) asking me about what I’m buying. Talk about a rotten pickup line!

Now, I don’t know about you, but I get more than just a
little uncomfortable when a stranger is analyzing my purchases.

This is just one example of the many different ways guys blunder trying out a pickup line or when trying to get a pretty girl to like them and find them interesting.

In this fast paced, high tech world women don’t have as much time to just chat leisurely as they used to in simpler days.

Some people may not want it any other way, but in all this hustle and bustle women don’t realize how many friendships, and
relationships they’ve trash canned because they didn’t “have the time”.

So. Sadly, if you don’t get a woman’s interest in the first 30 seconds by one heck of a pickup line you’ve pretty much lost her for good.

She will dismiss you from her mind as she thinks about her
schedule or plans for the day and won’t even remember you a few days later.

There are exceptions to the rule of course, but generally you’ll find this to be the case.

Just imagine how many guys approach a girl who is beautiful, smart, and talented every day with killer pickup lines. And imagine how many of those men she snubs and ignores their best pickup line.

Eventually this girl going to settle down with only one man. So if you want to have a chance at being that man you’ve got to stand apart from the crowd, from all the other guys who beg for her phone number and throw average pickup lines at her.

One way to do this (no matter how nervous you feel) is to ACTconfident. You do this by not fidgeting, looking her in the eye gently, casually keeping your arms at your sides (whatever you do don’t cross them in front of you as this projects hostility).

If the situation calls for it be helpful, and always be kind. Women still love a chivalrous man who will open doors for them or call them a lady.

I beam whenever a man treats me this way, and he has my full
attention whenever he speaks. Whatever you do don’t use a pickup line that is coarse or rude in humor though, as this will instantly turn a woman off.

It’s not a question of equality or women’s lib, it’s about making the woman feel special and beautiful, but at the same time treating her with respect and courtesy.

Until you get to know the girl better there are also lines you
shouldn’t cross. An excess of touching should be saved until you’ve known her for awhile, since the last thing you want is to make her uncomfortable around you.

In fact if she feels the same way about you that you do about her, she may either initiate more touching on her own (like hugs, and holding hands) or not be able to stop thinking about you. Wondering whether you like her or not.

Your next step? Put these tips on pickup lines to use and start making more women say yes to you.

If you want the low down on pickup lines, and how to get a girl’s attention and keep it visit:

McLean, VA - “The Healing Conscious” tells the story of an Ethiopian immigrant boy on his fascinating journey to America and adulthood. Author Kifle Bantayehu, a 23 year-old second-generation Ethiopian immigrant, recounts this poignant tale in poetic format. His inspirational collection of poems reflects the final words and thoughts of a dying man who traveled across the world, raised a family and became successful-finally fulfilling the American dream.

These poems, written in a uniquely modern style, reflect a journey of sacrifice, courage and strength. “The ideals of cultural preservation, respect and love intertwine with each person encountered along the narrator’s journey and serve as inspiration to all people, regardless of race religion or sex,” states the introduction of the book.

Bantayehu says there have been very few work works of poetry written and published by Ethiopian authors. And he feels as though he’s breaking new ground for this genre of literature by combining the English language with Ethiopian culture.

“The Healing Conscious” is available for pre-order at Borders and Barnes & Noble. It’s also available online at Amazon.com and books.lulu.com at discounted pricing.

Part of the proceeds from book sales will be donated to Ethiopian Children’s and Orphans’ Association, Inc. (ECOA), 46664, Africare, the African AIDS Initiative and other organizations working to promote HIV awareness and helping those affected in Sub-Saharan and East Africa.

Bantayehu says he wrote the book-which is based on the lives of his parents- to tell the compelling story of an immigrant, who through much pain and sacrifice, was able to leave his homeland of Ethiopia with an equally-strong and motivated woman, and raise four children in the best possible environment for education, opportunity and happiness.

“Although, there are many wonderfully unique stories and novels depicting the lives of immigrants in America of backgrounds ranging from Italian, Irish, Chinese, and English, there has been little said of the sacrifices and contributions of the Ethiopian immigrant community residing in the United States,” Bantayehu said, explaining his motivation. “Not only do we, as Ethiopians, possess over 2,000 years of a rich, cultural heritage, but we are a loving, caring and hard working people from whom the values of family, sacrifice, respect and camaraderie can be learned.”

“The Healing Conscious” is meant to inspire immigrants and others to have faith in their dreams because anything is possible. It also seeks to stir cultural consciousness and sensitivity. Many people and the world community at large, don’t take the time to understand a culture or society other than their own, Bantayheu says. And stereotypes, misconceptions, and hatred arise from our lack of knowledge.

“Whether Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim or any other ethnic or religious background, we all breathe the same air, feel fear, feel joy, shed tears, laugh, and love,” he says. “Those innate qualities make us human.”

Given the fears and prejudices that have arisen from the September 11 tragedy, “The Healing Conscious” promotes important principles for the entire global community to embrace and practice.

At first glance, it would seem that positive thinking and
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) have nothing to do with one
another. But many of us with ADD develop negative thinking
patterns because we become frustrated by our challenges and
frequent feelings of being overwhelmed. This negative outlook
then makes it even harder for us to manage those challenges and
move forward.

Practicing positive thinking allows people with ADD to focus on
our strengths and accomplishments, which increases happiness and
motivation. This, in turn, allows us to spend more time making
progress, and less time feeling down and stuck. The following
tips provide practical suggestions that you can use to help you
shift into more positive thinking patterns:

1. Take Good Care of Yourself It’s much easier to be positive
when you are eating well, exercising, and getting enough rest.

2. Remind Yourself of the Things You Are Grateful For Stresses
and challenges don’t seem quite as bad when you are constantly
reminding yourself of the things that are right in life. Taking
just 60 seconds a day to stop and appreciate the good things
will make a huge difference.

3. Look for the Proof Instead of Making Assumptions A fear of
not being liked or accepted sometimes leads us to assume that we
know what others are thinking, but our fears are usually not
reality. If you have a fear that a friend or family member’s bad
mood is due to something you did, or that your co-workers are
secretly gossiping about you when you turn your back, speak up
and ask them. Don’t waste time worrying that you did something
wrong unless you have proof that there is something to worry
about.

4. Refrain from Using Absolutes Have you ever told a partner
“You’re ALWAYS late!” or complained to a friend “You NEVER call
me!”? Thinking and speaking in absolutes like ‘always’ and
‘never’ makes the situation seem worse than it is, and programs
your brain into believing that certain people are incapable of
delivering.

5. Detach From Negative Thoughts Your thoughts can’t hold any
power over you if you don’t judge them. If you notice yourself
having a negative thought, detach from it, witness it, and don’t
follow it.

6. Squash the “ANTs” In his book “Change Your Brain, Change Your
Life,” Dr. Daniel Amen talks about “ANTs” - Automatic Negative
Thoughts. These are the bad thoughts that are usually
reactionary, like “Those people are laughing, they must be
talking about me,” or “The boss wants to see me? It must be
bad!” When you notice these thoughts, realize that they are
nothing more than ANTs and squash them!

7. Practice Lovin’, Touchin’ & Squeezin’ (Your Friends and
Family) You don’t have to be an expert to know the benefits of a
good hug. Positive physical contact with friends, loved ones,
and even pets, is an instant pick-me-up. One research study on
this subject had a waitress touch some of her customers on the
arm as she handed them their checks. She received higher tips
from these customers than from the ones she didn’t touch!

8. Increase Your Social Activity By increasing social activity,
you decrease loneliness. Surround yourself with healthy, happy
people, and their positive energy will affect you in a positive
way!

9. Volunteer for an Organization, or Help another Person
Everyone feels good after helping. You can volunteer your time,
your money, or your resources. The more positive energy you put
out into the world, the more you will receive in return.

10. Use Pattern Interrupts to Combat Rumination If you find
yourself ruminating, a great way to stop it is to interrupt the
pattern and force yourself to do something completely different.
Rumination is like hyper-focus on something negative. It’s never
productive, because it’s not rational or solution-oriented, it’s
just excessive worry. Try changing your physical environment -
go for a walk or sit outside. You could also call a friend, pick
up a book, or turn on some music.

When it comes to the corporate world, protocol is pretty much
the religion. To know the things needed to do are the basics of
productivity, but interaction and having a steady mind makes up
the entire thing to true productivity. There are those who seem
to work well even under pressure, but they’re uncommon ones and
we are human and imperfect. To get these little things like
stress under our skins won’t solve our problems. Sometimes it
takes a bit of courage to admit that we’re turning to be
workaholics than tell ourselves that we’re not doing our best.

Think of DHTML as not a singular technology but a combination of
three existing technologies glued together by the Document
Object Model (DOM):

1. HTML - For creating text and image links and other page
elements.

2. CSS - Style Sheets for further formatting of text and html
plus other added features such as positioning and layering
content.

3. JavaScript - The programming language that allows you to
accesses and dynamically control the individual properties of
both HTML and Style Sheets.

The way JavaScript accesses the properties of an HTML document
is through the Document Object Model (DOM). The job of the DOM
is to expose all the attributes of HTML and Style sheets to
JavaScript control. All you need to know about the DOM is what
JavaScript commands it accepts. Not that easy, as different
browsers have their slightly different versions of the DOM, so
they access HTML properties differently as well as display them
differently.

So how do you locate an HTML element on a page and change its
property? This is the job of JavaScript. Obviously, I cant into
all the details of JavaScript or the DOM, but here is an example
of how JavaScript can change a visibility of a style sheet layer
in both browsers.

Note: That every piece of HTML has a location much like a
directory in a phone book. When finding that piece of HTML you
have to go through the same hierarchy process of searching for a
name in the phone book such as

(state) Washington -> (City) Seattle -> (Listings) j -> (Name)
Jessica

In JavaScript, a reference to this would be equivalent to

washington.seattle.j.jessica

Now Jessica may have additional information such as her address
and phone number, so the JavaScript reference would be written
this way.

washington.seattle.j.jessica.address

or

washington.seattle.j.jessica.phone

Lets transcribe the above metaphor to a DHTML document that
contains a

layer [myLayer] with style attributes
[top,left,width,height,z-index,visibility,etc] and the layer
contains a bit of text “myText” (Note that the visibility
attribute is set to hidden)

myText

In Netscape the address to the DIV layer “myLayer” is

document.myLayer

in Explorer it is

document.all.myLayer.style

The W3C way of identifying the address is

document.GetElementById(‘myLayer’).style

To access the properties such as visibility under “myLayer” you
would use these addresses.

Netscape

document.myLayer.visibility

Explorer

document.all.myLayer.style.visibility

W3C

document.getElementById(‘myLayer’).style.visibility

To change the visibility of this layer you would assign a value
to your JavaScript address.

Netscape

document.myLayer.visibility = “visible”;

Explorer

document.all.myLayer.style.visibility = “visible”;

W3C

document.getElementById(‘myLayer’).style.visibility=”visible”;

Now the previously hidden layer is now visible. This is
essentially how DHTML works, but understand there are hundreds
and hundreds of attribute properties for text, images, documents
and windows. Not all these properties are supported in both
browser and sometime accessing a property requires a few more
hurdles, but if you stick to the common denominator properties
both browser use then life it a bit easier. I recommend the
excellent DHTML reference book Dynamic HTML - The Definitive
Guide by Danny Goodman (O’Riley Books) It lists all of the DHMTL
properties and their cross browser compatibilities.

Polyphonic ringtones, as the name implies, employ various tones and sounds rather than just the simple one-tone typical ringtone. For instance, if you have polyphonic ringtones that are musical, you can have a drum or a bass line accompanying a melody or someone speaking while there is music playing. Polyphonic ringtones are more sophisticated and many believe that they are much more interesting than standard, monophonic ringtones. Contrary to popular belief, polyphonic ringtones are not necessarily more expensive; in fact, it is quite possible to find a good selection of free polyphonic ringtones.

One of the most popular choices for polyphonic ringtones is music. On free ringtone website, you can find a staggering variety of polyphonic ringtones in the music category. If you can imagine a musical style, it is available, from reggae to polka to Hindi music. Free ringtone downloads are so easy to obtain, that many people change their ringtones often because they enjoy so many different sounds. Whether you would like your own signature tune or to switch songs frequently, you can find great musical polyphonic ringtones on free sites.

Some enjoy more sophisticated ringtones, and polyphonic ringtones can accommodate a speaker’s voice and music in the background. There are comic ringtones featuring, for instance, Austin Powers speaking with the comic theme song in the background or aliens saying “Earth to (your name) with the sound of a space ship zooming along.” Many of these polyphonic ringtones are free, but it is not unusual to find some that cost a certain amount of money. However, the cost is usually very moderate, and with ringtones, you often get what you pay for.

It is possible to compose your own polyphonic ringtones; this is a particularly good idea if you are musically inclined and you can’t find your favorite tune among ringtone selections. When you compose polyphonic ringtones, you will need more than just the keypad on your phone to plunk out a simple melody. You will want bass or other accompaniment, or perhaps a melody line. It is possible to design such a ringtone if you have the right equipment, or to record it and download it onto your phone.

If you are downloading a polyphonic ringtone from a site, you will need to fill out some simple information, such as you country (perhaps your address) and your cell phone number. The company will send the ringtone to your phone and you can use it immediately. If you are paying for a ringtone, you will need to fill in your credit card information. Always check to make sure that the company is a reputable one and not a shifty organization that is simply trying to get access to your phone or to your credit card information. Work along with friends as a team and take their recommendations if they have been successful. A company with a proven track record is unlikely to be a fraud.

Enjoy your polyphonic ringtones; searching for new and interesting ringtones can quickly become an enjoyable hobby, and you may want to download a new ringtone every week. You can be the life of the office or the party if people see you coming and wonder what new unusual sound will be emanating from your cell phone. You can make someone else’s commute or wait in the post office more enjoyable with your polyphonic ringtone, and in your own way, you can improve the aesthetics of your environment by installing an elegant baroque melody or the sound of an exotic bird in its natural habitat. Whether your preferences are for humorous or beautiful ringtones, your polyphonic ringtone reflects your personality and style and enables you to leave your special mark wherever you go.

Author of “The Art of Computer Programming”; creator of TEX and METAFONT; and inventor of the strangest software versioning systems ever. Well known for many reasons, famous for a few; Donald Ervin Knuth is most certainly a legend in his own lifetime.

His series of books, The Art of Computer Programming [‘TAOCP’], was first introduced to the public in 1968. It is still in production. Volumes 1 to 3 are available at all good bookshops, with volume 5 currently scheduled for release in 2010. Advance order your copies now. Once he completes volume five, Donald thinks that the time will be about right for a revision of volumes 1-3. Don’t expect this any time soon.

Knuth offers $2.56 to each person that alerts him to an error in one of his published works. Why $2.56? Well, because that’s the number of pennies in a hexadecimal dollar, of course.

In between writing what is arguably the most famous and respected computer science text ever produced, performing the duties of a retired professor, being an accomplished organist, and winning a plethora of awards, Knuth produced the TEX software and METAFONT language.

The versioning systems used for his creations are unique and somewhat quirky. New versions of TEX are numbered with versions approaching pi; METAFONT’s versioning system similarly approaches e. Once Knuth passes from this realm, the development of the software and language will stop, with any remaining bugs remaining as “features”. This appears to be the inspiration behind much of the development of the Windows Operating System which contains an ever increasing array of interesting “features”.

A quote from the man himself: “Beware of bugs in the above code; I have only proved it correct, not tried it”.

One of the biggest challenges beginners face with any type of art, is the ability to really connect with the creativity that is inside of them. It’s difficult in the beginning to just let go and paint from your heart and soul. Your mind is being filled with techniques and systems for approaching painting, which in my opinion, tends to drown out your inner creativity. Learning techniques is essential, but there should be a point where you begin to draw from your own creative imagination.

When painting a subject, whether it is a person or a landscape, it is important to first observe your subject. You have to get close and personal to what you are painting. If you want to learn how to paint great landscapes, then you should spend time near the area that inspires you to paint in the first place. Only then can you really understand how to transfer what it is you see to canvas.

Take a ride out to the area you wish to paint. Bring along some pencils and paper. The best way to become really intimate with the scene is to just spend time there doing some sketches. This will really force you to observe what you see and burn the image and the environment into your senses.

Painting with watercolor on location is quite challenging, especially if you are a beginner. The scene is constantly changing. There are certain techniques in watercolor that require the paper to be at certain angles, or the paper needs to be saturated to a certain degree, etc. To get everything right within such a short time span is quite difficult, which is why you should bring a camera in the event you are not able to capture the scene. Once you find a composition that you like, take a bunch of shots at different distances and angles. When you get back to your studio, you will now have a few reference sketches as well as a bunch of great photos to work with. In the beginning, while painting on location, try to choose compositions that are not overly detailed or complex.

One of the best ways to immerse your self in watercolor landscape painting is to find people with the same passion. Search online for any groups or websites for landscape painters in your area. Start chatting and get to know everyone. Many of the artists in these groups love to connect with other artists and plan painting trips. This is a really great way to gain experience.

You do not need to bring your entire studio with you when painting on location. Many beginners will bring far too many supplies, which becomes more of a nuisance than help. Only bring the colors and supplies that you really need to work on a particular scene.

Remember, things change very quickly outdoors. Lighting conditions and weather can change in a matter of minutes. You must be able to paint quickly without being too sloppy. Block in all of your large areas first then go back and start adding your details.

Many landscape artists usually block in the sky area first. The sky is generally paler than the rest of the painting, which enables you to work from light to dark. The sky area also influences the way you paint the rest of the objects in your painting.

When painting objects in the foreground that require great detail, do not try and paint every single leaf or blade of grass that you see. This will usually create too much detail that will draw focus away from the center of interest in your painting. It is also far too time consuming if you plan on painting on location. Besides, a painting is not meant to be an exact replica of what you see, rather your unique impression of the scene. If you want exact details, you are better off taking a photograph.

Don’t be afraid to use your imagination. If you are painting a scene and feel that you should add a few trees here, or a bush there, or a bird on a branch, then by all means go for it.

If you find one particular location appealing, and have already painted there once before, don’t hesitate to go back and paint it again, only this time go out on a cloudy day instead. You will be surprised how different a scene can look when the weather changes.

I hope these watercolor painting tips have helped. If you ever find yourself getting discouraged or frustrated by your progress, don’t give up. Instead, welcome and learn from your mistakes. It will make you a much better painter.

Two types of style sheets: Internal and External

Internal - You insert your style code right into your html code.
These stylesheets should only be used if you are intending to

External Stylesheets - Instead of putting all the style code

css code and link to it within your webpages code. It would look
something like this

Webpage title< itle> <link rel="stylesheet"<br /> type="text/css" href="http://www.yourdomain.com/css"> </head> </p> <p>If you decide to use an internal stylesheet, you have to put<br /> your css style wihin the following tags: </p> <style type="text/css"> </style> <p>All css or links to the external stylesheets have to go in<br /> between the <head> tags </p> <p>Now about Css Classes vs. ID’s </p> <p>The one major difference between a class and an id is that<br /> classes can be used multiple times within the same page while an<br /> Id can only be used once per page. </p> <p>Example: </p> <p>ID - The global navigation of your site, or a navigation bar. A<br /> footer, header, etc. Only items that appear in only one place<br /> per page. </p> <p>Class - Anything that you would use multiple times in your page,<br /> such as titles, subtitles, headlines, and the like. </p> <p>Creating ID ’s</p> <p>To create an Id in your css, you would start with the number<br /> sign (#) and then your label of the id. Here’s an example </p> <p>#navigation { float:left; } </p> <p>To insert the id in your html, you would do something like this </p> <div id="navigation"> </div> <p>You can also insert an id within another one like this </p> <div id="navigation"> <div id="left"> </div></div> <p>Remember to close the id’s in order. </p> <p>Now, onto css classes. </p> <p>Creating Classes</p> <p>To create a class in your css, use this </p> <p>.subtitle { color: #000000; } </p> <p>To insert the class into your html, do this </p> <p class="subtitle" </p </p> <p>Now, you can use the same class repeatedly in the same page<br /> unlike Id's. </p> <p>I also want to tell you something about link attributes. You<br /> should always keep them in this order: </p> <p>a { color: #006699; text-decoration: none; font-size: 100%; } </p> <p>a:link { color: #006699; text-decoration: none; } </p> <p>a:visited { color: #006699; text-decoration: none; } </p> <p>a:hover { color: #0000FF; text-decoration: underline; } </p> <p>a:active { color: #FF0000 } </p> <p>Of course, you can change the colors and text-decorations. This<br /> is just something I cut out of my code! </p> <p>Okay, these are the basics. What I highly recommend is to go and<br /> download Topstyle Lite by going here: </p> <p><a href="http://www.bradsoft.com" rel="nofollow">http://www.bradsoft.com</a> opstyle slite/index.asp </p> <p>It’s free and is a very helpful css editor. It not only color<br /> codes and organizes your code, but it provides you with tons of<br /> attributes that you can add to your class and id elements with<br /> just a click. They also provide a screen at the bottom to view<br /> your css code as you create it. Very useful for a free edition<br /> and I’m looking to buy the pro version soon. </p> <p>Now, this was just a very very brief explanation of the vital<br /> elements needed when structuring your css. I have a good feeling<br /> that when you download top style lite, you will learn how to use<br /> the hundreds of attributes in your classes and id’s </p> <p>Good Luck in Your Web Designing Efforts! </p> <p class="post-info-co"> </p> <!-- <rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:trackback="http://madskills.com/public/xml/rss/module/trackback/"> <rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.refreshorlando.com/archives/2007/05/25/css-the-basics-ids-and-classes/" dc:identifier="http://www.refreshorlando.com/archives/2007/05/25/css-the-basics-ids-and-classes/" dc:title="CSS: The Basics -
