Noise cancelling headphones are fast becoming the must have item of the year. Both music lovers and travelers alike are beginning to realize the benefits of noise cancelling devices. In fact this new product is taking the audio industry by storm and promises to develop into a significant portion of the headphone market in a very short time.

Both audiologists and consumers agree that headphones that cancel ambient noise are very beneficial. From a consumer standpoint, the electronic devices allow for a far more peaceful journey, particularly in noisy environments such as planes and cars. In fact, noise cancelling headphones can reduce or eliminate the persistent hissing of an aircraft or the drone of an engine and even the muffled conversations that so often disturb our listening experience.

But perhaps more importantly, from an audiologist’s point of view, noise cancelling headphones allow people to listen to their favorite music, without competing with noise pollution. This is quite a significant issue, because people have a tendency to compete with other noise by just increasing the volume level of the music that they are trying to hear. Clearly this ploy has a major flaw in the sense that it ultimately results in negative impacts upon a persons hearing.

According to http://www.cancelingnoise.com the human ear is capable of shifting its threshold of hearing to suit the noisier conditions and thus noisier headphones will appear to be blocking out the sounds. Ultimately the noise will damage the function of the ear, most likely leaving the person with permanent hearing loss and possible tinnitus.

On the other hand, by using noise cancelling headphones, not only can the wearer enjoy a quieter journey, he or she can also listen to music at lower levels without losing clarity. In this case, the human ear will shift its hearing threshold to a lower level and a person can therefore listen to music at lower volume levels, without sacrificing their listening experience.

The technology is quite exciting for consumers, particularly those who have previously relied upon smaller headphones in the past. One drawback that has been observed is that it does require an over the ear style of headphone to work most effectively. This will mean that people who like to jog or exercise while listening to music will most probably need to buy a separate set of regular headphones and also a set of noise cancelling headphones for travel. But let me assure you that anyone who finds them self on a long distance flight will be glad that they made the investment in a set of quality noise cancelling headphones.

Title: Moods in Motion

Entertaining Read …….. Recommended 5 stars

The Review

The stanzas open with a lyrical work: You in You: I see you in everything But what I love the most Is to see you in you. The reader experiences the bitter sorrow of Poisoned Pen, the binary love of Saviors Arms as well as the embracing warmth of the sun in Beach Thoughts. We feel the poignant longing of the Blind Poet : He imagines rainbows within his shadows And senses gods presence upon his shoulders. the End of the Line leads the reader to the portal at the end of the rainbow. We Ponder the wonder of life as we read Born for a Reason. Sometimes it is better just to start Entirely over, Entirely Over and other times We are searching for a shadow Inside a galaxy of stars. Finally we close our reading sitting for hours in the Ghost Garden.

On the pages of Moods in Motion Lyrist Forese has created a tantalizing publication of 50 of some of his finest elegies. Verses extending across seventy pages entice the reader with a diversity of deeply felt sonnets penned about a far-reaching melange of the authors favorite subjects. Lyrist Forese’s passion for life flows from the page to the reader as these poems are enjoyed. Stanzas filled with warmth, perspicacity and contemplation are included in this picturesque arrangement. Readers, regardless of whether they are admirers of poetry or not, are sure to take pleasure from Moods in Motion. Lovers of poetry will unquestionably be exhilarated as they find themselves stopping often to relish a statement or a passage before going on to the next appealing tidbit.

Poet Forese has an extraordinary aptitude for taking the everyday issues of life and turning them into an irresistible work. There is something for everyone in Moods in Motion. Accomplished, piercing, words to enrapture, and thrill are offered as Poet Forese draws upon the adventures of life to give rise to an opus of lovely work. Romance, life lessons, enlightenment all are communicated to the heart of the reader in most good-natured and calculable manner. Readers will be sure to be transformed in a very tangible way while reading the words offered by this perceptive, straightforward poet.

Moods in Motion is meant to be read and then taken out often for a re reading as craving and fancy strikes. Bard Forese demonstrates his idyllic genius in this exquisite little work. Each refrain only gets better.

It is the belief of this reviewer that Moods in Motion should do well in specialty/gift type shops as an offering when a unique gift for a particular person is essential. The work will lend itself well to the homeschool library for middle grade to high school age readers as they begin to explore the world of poetry for themselves. With the writer’s permission I plan to lift a poem or two for use in my fourth grade classroom as we begin to write some poetry for ourselves.

Lovely book for a long winter afternoon or a quick poem or two while waiting for the light to change during a busy day.

Enjoyed the read, happy to recommend.

When you first start out in swinging, then you may find that you
become jealous of your partner during or after the experience.
Is this normal to feel like this? Or to not feel jealous at all?

If you’ve taken your time to discuss your swinging desires, then
you may never have to deal with this. But it’s best you know a
little either way.

Talking it out

The easiest rule to jealousy in swinging is to talk about it. As
soon as you begin to feel the jealousy, you want to sit down
with your partner and talk about what concerns you. Many times,
one person in the relationship feels jealous because the other
‘did more’ than they did. And it’s not a competition, but you
might feel that your partner and whomever they were swinging
with suddenly have a deeper connection.

A lot of times, jealousy also happens because the relationship
was shaky to begin with. If you and your partner are having a
lot of fights, or just aren’t communicating well, then you have
to be careful. If you have a moment of feeling jealous, sit down
with your partner and discuss EXACTLY what made you
uncomfortable. Maybe it will just take changing your personal
rules for each other to help with the feelings of jealousy.

Some couple save kissing for just each other and won’t allow it
between their partner and someone else. This is just one of many
ideas to show commitment to each other. But when you stop to
think about it, you and your partner are always leaving to go
home with each other, even after a wild and exciting sexual
experience with someone else. Some couples find that they become
even more confident in their relationship.

Of course, it should go without saying that agreeing completely
into trying swinging is a prerequisite to swinging. If one
partner wasn’t too keen in the first place, then you may find
that accusations and jealousy pop up a lot more.

Talk the possibility of this out before you even start swinging.

Why you might not feel jealous

Swinging is just so amazing that you may not even feel jealous.
And that’s okay too. Some experienced swingers feel that their
relationship is enhanced by the swinging extras. Knowing that
they can share something sexual with another person or another
couple can lead to greater intimacy and communication in other
areas as well.

So a lot of couples just don’t feel jealous. It’s actually quite
erotic to watch your partner be pleased by someone else or
pleasure someone other than yourself. Trust me.

You may also have such a strong relationship already that
swinging is just another adventure that you’re going on. And
there’s not a smidge of jealousy because you both wanted to try
swinging out anyways.

Swinging is an eye-opening (amongst other things) experience
that can show you the strengths as well as the flaws in your
current relationship. In most cases, however, swinging is a
positive experience that will enrich a relationship as well as
your sexual experience.

Do you remember looking through your parent’s old photo albums, or maybe the pictures of loved ones on the wall at your grandparents, and ever wonder who that person really was?

The act of scrapbooking encompasses more than just putting photos into an album; it is the recording of those moments, events and seemingly mundane times in our lives. I believe that in this era of fast paced, want it now, lifestyle we tend to forget to really stop and get to know someone, including ourselves and our family. Although I am not suggesting that we go back in time, I think it is important that we remember to share on a personal level with those that we love.

Scrapbooking is one great tool to do just that. We can record our personal likes/dislikes, beliefs and dreams with those that know us best and even those who we have yet to meet or may come into our family long after we are gone. I know there have been times when a single moment has made me smile or capture my awe and I have believed I would never forget it, but now could not share it with you because it is gone. What if that had been recorded in even a single sentence and could be shared?

Now I am not saying that every moment in our lives has to be recorded, but if you have a tool already in place, when those important “I don’t ever want to forget this” moment’s happen, it does not take much to make sure it is not forgotten. Scrapbooking is an easy option with so many ways to make it personally yours.

My children are in those wonderful pre-teen years and are off doing so many great and wonderful things as they discover their abilities and dreams. I love to record our conversations when they discover something new about themselves or the world around them. It is really no different then when your toddler first discovers a butterfly and can follow it around the yard. You will always hold those moments in your heart. My children ask me on a regular basis to tell them something special I remember about them when they were little. I find myself telling the same few stories over again. This year I have made it my goal to add those moments into my scrapbook, so that they will always have those memories to ponder and share with their children and grandchildren. They were moments that defined them and put smiles on their faces every time they are told.

I challenge you to make this the year you record some of those memories locked inside your heart for all of those in your world to share. Scrapbooking those memories may make them smile, maybe even cry, but it will touch them forever.

World War II - Germany decided to attack Poland.
Poland had many great warriors. They all prepared to fight the Germans.
They were all ready with the best armor, the best and well trained
horses, and ofcourse the best weapons , swords , spears …. And
the Pols were brave and were ready to give their lives for their
country. Sadly they did just that… give their lives. The Germans
had tanks… It is very important to have the right weapons when one
goes for a war.

In the same way it is very important for system administrators to have
the right tools to to work smart. Linux is a great desktop OS for
developers as well as system
administrators. Let us take a look at some of the utilities which makes
this a great environment for system administrators and developers. Most
of the content below is taken from the home pages of these apps and the
I make no claims on the originality. My aim is to introduce the reader
to the
wonderful tools that are available in a Linux/BSD desktop environment.

Konsole

Let’s start from what most people think Linux is all about - a text
based shell. Konsole is what
is known as an X terminal emulator, often referred to as a terminal or
a shell. It gives you the equivalent of an old-fashioned text screen on
your desktop, but one which can easily share the screen with your
graphical applications. What makes Konsole special?
Konsole’s advanced features include simple configuration and the
ability to use multiple terminal shells in a single window, making for
a less cluttered desktop. Konsole is also available as kpart and
can thus be easily embedded in other applications, like practiced by
Kate and Konqueror.

As most system administrators need log into servers on a regular basis
the konsole gives them a benefit over the Windoze command prompt. In
windows one needs to use a program like putty to log in using SSH. Also
as linux is the desktop OS the techs can use the man pages on the local
system.

One can also try out the various commands locally. Consider a simple
example.

Is it

$ ln sourcefile destinationfile

or is it

$ ln destinationfile sourcefile

Such things can be easily found out locally without carrying out
experiments on the server. Many techs believe that servers are places
where they can experiment. However, such experiments can lead to major
losses to the customers due to one small error. A system administrator
must understand that people have immense faith in them when they give
their entire data to them and they cannot risk carrying out simple
experiments on servers.

Some screenshots of the konsole can be seen at the konsole site

Personal Information Manager / Groupware

There are two popular choices here. Evolution
from Novel
and the Kontact
from KDE. Both these an email client, calendaring, meeting
scheduling, a task list, contact management and syncing functionality.
Kontact is essentially the regular KDE PIM components which have been
put in together i.e. kmail, korganizer, knotes etc.. It is very a very
neat package and is stable and light. Both these are very
functional and can connect to many groupware servers.

Klipper

Klipper is the KDE clipboard utility. It stores clipboard history, and
allows you to link clipboard contents to application actions. Klipper
can perform actions on the contents of the clipboard, based on whether
they match a particular regular expression. For example, any clipboard
contents starting with “http://” can be passed to the web-browser as
URLs to open.

Copying text is as simple as highlighting the text. And to paste the
text all one needs to do is click on the center mouse button. This can
be particularly useful for sys-admins as they use a sequence
of commands from time to time. Having these in the clipboard and using
them often can make the work a lot easier.

Gaim / Kopete

Communicating via an instant messenger is an essential these days.
Linux has a very clean solution for this. Both Kopete
(http://kopete.kde.org) and Gaim (http://gaim.sourceforge.net/) are
capable of
handling multiple IM protocols such as supporting AIM, ICQ, MSN,
Yahoo, Jabber, IRC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, Lotus SameTime. Gaim is
a multi-protocol instant messaging (IM) client for Linux, BSD, MacOS X,
and Windows. It is compatible with AIM and ICQ (Oscar protocol), MSN
Messenger, Yahoo!, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, SILC, GroupWise Messenger,
and Zephyr networks.

Kjots

KJots is a small program that helps you to write down some
short notes
and organizes them for you. It has two basic items used to organize
your notes - “Books” and “Pages”. This is a good light tool to
write in all the templated responses and other important notes for
quick references.

Kwallet

A lovely password manager which can store passwords for all the logins
including those of kopete and websites.

Tea Cooker

KTeaTime is a handy timer for steeping tea. No longer will you have to
guess at how long it takes for your tea to be ready. Simply select the
type of tea you have, and it will alert you when the tea is ready to
drink. Now how can a tea cooker be useful for techs. Often techs get
involved in solving a problem and forget to update the client about the
progress. Without communicating with the client, on many occasions the
entire effort goes down the drain as the client get very agitated
thinking that nobody is looking at his problem. What the tech can do is
use the tea cooker and get a reminder so that he can respond the client
with the progress.

Koffice/ Open Office

M$ Office is one of the most used software and a major reason why
customers do not shift to other operating systems. They need Word and
Excel for just about everything. K-Office and Open Office are two great
solutions. Open Office can open M$ Office files and can even safe the
files in M$ Office format which makes it easy to communicate with those
who still use M$ products.

Lyx

Besides office suites which replicate the windows world products in
features, Linux also has some great alternatives. LyX
(http://www.lyx.org) is an example of a great document processor.

What is LyX?

LyX is the first WYSIWYM (What you
see is what you mean) document processor.

LyX is what?!

LyX is an advanced open source document processor that encourages an
approach to writing based on the
structure of your documents, not their appearance. LyX lets you
concentrate on writing, leaving details of visual layout to the
software. LyX produces high quality, professional output — using
LaTeX, an industrial strength typesetting engine, in the background;
LyX is far more than a
front-end to LaTeX, however. No knowledge of LaTeX is necessary to use
LyX,
although it will give a user more power. LyX is stable and fully
featured. It has been used for documents as large as a thesis, or as
small as a business letter. Despite its simple GUI interface (available
in many languages), it supports tables, figures, and hyperlinked
cross-references, and has a best-of-breed math editor.

Dia

Dia is a great tool for creating diagrams. It has a huge in-built
library of objects which are specially useful for software engineers.
So making a diagram of a computer network is as easy as dragging a few
computers and switches from the list of objects available. It currently
has special objects to help draw entity relationship diagrams, UML
diagrams, flowcharts, network diagrams, and simple circuits. It is also
possible to add support for new shapes by writing simple XML files,
using a subset of SVG to draw the shape.

Gnucash

An average tech earns a good salary and spends it is well too. To keep
track of all these personal expenses the best is to have a great
software. Gnucash is an ideal way to manage personal finances. Designed
to be easy to use, yet powerful
and flexible, GnuCash allows you to track bank accounts, stocks, income
and expenses. As quick and intuitive to use as a checkbook register, it
is based on professional accounting principles to ensure balanced books
and accurate reports.

KTuberling

And finally a product for all those techs who maintain their servers
well and have no work or pending issues and yet have to sit through the
nights waiting for some issue to popup.

KTuberling (http://opensource.bureau-cornavin.com/ktuberling/) was
originally game intended for small children. Of course, it may be
suitable for adults who have remained
young at heart. Most techs in general love this software. It is a
“potato editor”. That means that you can drag and drop eyes, mouths,
mustache, and other parts of face and goodies onto a potato-like guy.
Similarly, you have a penguin and an aquarium on which you can drop
other stuff.

There is no winner for the game. The only purpose is to make the
funniest faces you can. There is a museum, like a “Madame Tusseau”
gallery, where you can find many funny examples of decorated potatoes,
penguins and aquariums.

Bug Huntress QA Lab announces of extending its BugHuntress Test
Suit functionality for Palm OS 3.0-5.4 Kharkiv, Ukraine -
October 4, 2005 - Bug Huntress QA Lab, the leading software
testing company for testing applications for PDA’s and smart
phones being the originator and of the pioneering BugHuntress
Test Suite which is an automated testing system for PDA
applications, announces its BugHuntress Test Suite functionality
extension for application testing on Palm OS compatible
handhelds and emulators, working on Palm OS 3.0-5.4.

Bug Huntress Team feels proud to remind of its BugHuntress Test
Suite automated testing system which is a client-server system
with Windows server that enables testing both on Palm OS devices
and their emulators by comparing the result with reference
values at control points. PC and Palm parts of BugHuntress Test
Suite interact through COM-port, by using USB-bus and via TCP/IP
protocol. Automated testing is performed using special
scenarios, scripts and control points (e.g. screen CRC, controls
states, databases states, etc.) which basically represent
software test plan written in Java-script with BHTS commands.
The system’s flexibility allows to script any test plan and
easily carry out functional, output and stress testing. Test
Suite is especially convenient for regressive testing, when
changes to program code are continually made throughout software
lifecycle. Some useful application’s features are: capability to
control reference sums comparison, capability to take
screenshots during test execution and compare them with the
reference ones, handy results logging.

The overwhelming advantage of the enhanced BugHuntress Test
Suite if compared to proximate products for embedded systems
with sophisticated human interfaces is its ability to build in
between the Palm OS and the application being tested and
intercept the wider variety of events on the system level. It
needs not to emulate system pressing on buttons but intercepts
events within the system.

Now the enhanced version of BugHuntress Test Suite supports the
all the above OSes. It also now supports WinCE and Symbian
platforms.

About Bug Huntress QA Lab The company was founded in 1998 as an
independent software development and software testing company.
Wide experience in QA gained by the team and high demand on
testing services transformed the QA department into a new
brand-Bug Huntress QA Lab (www.bughuntress.com). Bug Huntress QA
Lab in cooperation with its QArea owner-company has developed a
variety of cross-platform software solutions for business,
security, healthcare and gaming industry.

VPN is an abbreviation for Virtual Private Network. Private network is a network for select users that has a firewall enabled to prevent intrusion from the Internet. Even though such networks tend to be safe from intrusion, it causes a problem for users. It becomes difficult to get past the firewall, if someone wants to access email or their own files. Therefore, a specific kind of software or electronic hardware is used. This is called a VPN or virtual private network that can help users access their email or files from private networks, without difficulty. VPN is a private communications network. It is usually used within a company, or by many different companies or organizations, communicating over a public network. VPN message traffic is carried on a public networking infrastructure (Internet) using standard protocols.

VPN clients are used in three scenarios. It is used to support remote access to an intranet. It is used to support connections between multiple intranets within the same organization. It is also used to join the networks between two organizations, forming an extranet. Experts in VPN technology warn against connecting the client computer to the Internet directly. Connecting the computer directly when there is only one Internet connection bypasses the firewall. This destroys the security and access-sharing capabilities that the firewall provides. Spreading the firewall to accommodate the VPN traffic will help retain the fire walling security provided by it. It will also permit the other systems on the local network to access the Internet. The Internet can be accessed even if the VPN networks connection is not active.

If a firewall is used in an environment of many thousand users, it is considered safer to make the VPN client users to go through that firewall. This is done for security reasons. This approach is better than providing the clients with modems. Clients having modems can dial out on their own when they need to use the VPN and this will totally defeat the purpose of a firewall.

There is a calculated trend in all business corporations and firms: when the enterprise is getting bigger, its support of data increases its complexity, volume and value. The larger your enterprise is, the more significant your data files become. The traditional tape backup can no longer produce in-depth data information about all the important features of your business. That’s why many people get acknowledged to a more adequate file protection. A secure offsite backup system can be the possible solution. Business owners and offices managers have got it straight: if the business is to flourish, precise data information storage should be used.

Offsite backup systems offer something, which no other data store can do: they protect to the greatest extent all your files. But why should they do that, you may ask. Imagine you are a business owner. You have your own office computer, which is crammed up with all the valuable info. Well, what if the computer gets stolen, or a short-cut puts it out of practice? What will happen to your enterprise? If you are still not convinced enough to the rational extent, let’s consider the following statistic data. 1 in every 4 computer users suffers a critical data loss every year. Last years over 500,000 were stolen. Disk and other hardware failures are so numerous that major disk and computer manufacturers/resellers are reducing their warranties to 12 months. Over 25% of data loss is a result of computer program errors, software viruses and natural disasters (factors completely out of your control). 50% of businesses that lose their data never open their doors again. Of those businesses that do manage to stay open, 90% end up failing within two years. Data loss will cost business an estimated £12 Billion this year.

Still not believing? Consider the following fact: computer experts say that once data is lost, it can no longer be recovered to the full. Some data that contains pieces of valuable information will be forever lost in the digital space, with no hope of getting it back. Disaster recovery planning (DV) often fails to extract the lost files in the similar way as they were before the disaster struck. This happens because of the various regulations and compliance, which occur during the recovery process.

Data loss can happen to anyone, no matter how good the tape protection system is. There is no tape backup that can comprise all the valuable information without omitting some precious stuff. Text documents, financial records, contact records, address books, email messages and databases that you have created on your computer or servers may disappear forever unless you take a serious action to prevent it. The lost files are hard to recover, and it takes a lot of precious time and nerve-racking to recover even to the approximate extent the ruined system as it was before the disaster. The value of data highly exceed the mere cost of your computer or server, as you have to pay a great amount of money for reproducing the whole information as it was before the crack down. So, the most reasonable thing to do, if you don’t want to spend a lot of money afterwards, is to re-ensure your system using secure online backups.

Even though that is the sacred truth, most people avoid taking backup precautions. They leave their data files unprotected, and thus expose their business on the danger of bankrupt. Why do people do it? Because of laziness, because they don’t want to spend additional money, or just because they think that would never happen to them. Is it so hard to take some pre-consideration and backup your data? Sooner or later, everyone gets a strike in their unprotected file systems. Then it is too late to split hairs over the lost information. You should better take the action in advance and construct a data backup system, so that your files are fully protected and your business is ensured.

DETROIT — George W. Bush doesn’t like to play hurt but he has no choice. Every week now, he’s getting clobbered. His Nixonian administration can only struggle to stop the bleeding, bandage the wounds and pray that the twin enemies of truth and time will stop. The Busheviks are in full retreat. Events, largely of their own creation, are overwhelming them. The self-inflicted assault is endless.

The president’s “brain,” his political “genius,” good ole “Turd Blossom” himself, Karl Rove, is a desperate man, crawling and begging as he tries to escape indictment on federal felony charges. Bush, the cowboy president, is all hat, no horse; Rove, his ramrod, is now all turd, no blossom.

Initially, Rove lied to FBI agents about his role in identifying and outing CIA officer Valerie Plame. This week, he’ll make his fourth visit to the grand jury, trying to explain why he lied when he was first questioned about his role in exposing Plame.

Publicly, Rove denied he had “any knowledge” about the leak and White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan scoffed that “it is a ridiculous suggestion” to say Rove was in any way involved in the scandal. Lies. All lies.

Rove, along with Vice President Cheney’s chief of staff, Lewis “Scooter” Libby, undertook that vindictive mission to please their bosses. Bush and Cheney cannot be indicted, only impeached. Treason seems like a pretty good article of impeachment. They had motive and opportunity and unleashed their minions to commit the treachery.

Plame’s husband, former ambassador Joseph Wilson, exposed a vital lie Bush and Cheney successfully used — that Saddam Hussein was shopping for enriched uranium in Niger. That false claim was essential in buttressing the lie that Saddam had a nuclear weapons program, and gave Condoleezza Rice her memorable lie-line, “We don’t want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud.”

The Niger myth was no footnote in the Bush-Cheney book of pre-war fabrications. It was central to the whole campaign to dupe the American people into believing Iraq was an imminent threat and war was the only way George W. Bush could protect us.

It’s hard to imagine such supreme cynicism in an ostensibly free nation. But it is a measure of the vile people who sell such lies, and when exposed they will stop at nothing to punish those who dare speak the truth.

Larry Johnson, a former CIA intelligence analyst and State Department counterterrorism expert, was a colleague of Valerie Plame’s. He says she was courageous and dedicated and willing to assume all the risks of an officer under non-official cover. Her specialty was the priority issue of weapons of mass destruction.

Johnson says that the real objective was not so much retaliation, “but rather to issue a stark warning to others privy to administration lies on the war not to speak out. Administration officials felt they needed to provide an object lesson of what truth tellers can expect in the way of swift retaliation.”

But those loyal to the lies are forever protected. Just ask former CIA director George Tenet. Congress requested that the agency’s inspector general review the pre-9/11 intelligence failures. That report concluded that Tenet and several others should undergo an accountability review of their job performance.

Last week, CIA Director Porter Goss said no way.

“After great consideration of this report and its conclusions, I will not convene an accountability board to judge the performance of any individual CIA officers,” Goss proclaimed.

Tenet, who also claimed finding evidence of Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction would be a “slam-dunk,” is again protected, escaping any accountably for the serial intelligence failures on his watch at the CIA.

Goss is a former Republican congressman from Florida who did a brief stint with the CIA decades ago. He is thoroughly political and yet another shining example of Bush’s fear of professionalism and reliance on hackocracy.

Goss also said little if any of the inspector general’s report would be made public, saying this is not the time to reveal how intelligence is collected and analyzed. In fact, now is the perfect time to do that, so we know the mistakes and don’t repeat them.

Plame’s top priority — weapons intelligence work — made no difference to the Busheviks when it came time to use her to send the message that speaking the truth and exposing lies will be dealt with severely.

Larry Johnson understands why Rove and Libby exposed Plame.

“Thus, it was made abundantly clear to all, including potential intelligence sources abroad, that even when priority-one intelligence targets are involved, Bush administration officials will not shrink from exposing such sources for petty political purpose. The harm to the CIA and its efforts to recruit spies willing to take risks to provide intelligence is immense,” Johnson says.

The uranium-buying hoax was developed around documents provided by a shady Italian spy to U.S. and British intelligence. The documents were forgeries, and not very good ones at that. But they were good enough for Dick Cheney, who wildly claimed he now had the smoking gun proving Saddam’s evil intentions.

Cheney was so passionate about the Niger-uranium hoax Johnson believes he may have been involved in fostering the forged documents. Johnson smells a Cheney operation and says he does not “rule out the possibility that he and his chief of staff Lewis Libby may have had a hand in commissioning the forgery, as a way to come up with an ‘intelligence report’ with ‘mushroom cloud’ written all over it, in order to deceive Congress into approving an unnecessary war.”

Mohamed ElBaradei, director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, investigated the Niger claim at the time and saw right through the hoax.

“The IAEA has concluded, with the concurrence of outside experts, that these documents which formed the basis for the reports of recent uranium transactions between Iraq and Niger are not in fact authentic,” ElBaradei said.

Cheney and the other Busheviks despised ElBaradei for not buying the lie. They had his phone tapped, looking for dirt, and tried repeatedly to get him fired from his post. They failed. Last week the IAEA and ElBaradei won the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Nobel committee praised ElBaradei for his work on nuclear non-proliferation, noting, “At a time when disarmament efforts appear deadlocked, where there is a danger that nuclear arms will spread both to state and terrorist groups, and when nuclear power again appears to be playing an increasingly significant role, IAEA’s work is of incalculable importance.” How delicious.

Bush made a speech last Thursday, which the White House billed as a major statement about Iraq and the war on terror. Bush, who has actually made good speeches — at his first inaugural and at the National Cathedral following the 9/11 attacks — delivered a thoroughly awful one before the National Endowment for Democracy.

He repeated the same old refrains about “evil” and the “global campaign of freedom” locked in deadly embrace with the “global campaign of fear.” He assured that, in Iraq, “progress isn’t easy, but it is steady.” He forgot to mention the daily death toll and how his experiment in nation-building is “hard work.”

He wrapped every terrorist act of the last 20 years into a neat package, pinning the dirty deeds on “evil Islamic radicalism,” “militant Jihadism,” or “Islamo-fascism.” Take your pick. Then he tried to make a ridiculous parallel between the “murderous ideology of the Islamic radicals” and communism. Like the commies, Bush argued, “our new enemies” are pursuing totalitarian aims and “have endless ambitions of imperial domination” seeking to “make everyone powerless except themselves.”

Bush wants us to imagine bin Laden is Stalin and al-Qaeda is the Soviet army. Such pure crap. The Soviets had the biggest army on earth and a huge arsenal of nukes to go with it.

Our courageous “war president” promises to lead the Christian armies to triumph, declaring, “We will never back down, never give in, and never accept anything less than complete victory.” What does “victory” mean? Getting the lights on in Baghdad? The garbage picked up? An end to the daily violence that our army of occupation will never be able to stop?

Bush made several references to Osama bin Laden, an interesting shift since mentioning his name was verboten on the campaign trail a year ago. The president got personal in an unrealized, self-reflective way. He didn’t have a clue how ironic his words were, since he was simply mouthing what a speechwriter prepared for him.

Bush said Islamic radicalism is “elitist” and led by a “self-appointed vanguard” that presumes to speak for the masses. He chided bin Laden for telling Muslims “what is good for them.” Then courageous George said, “And what this man who grew up in wealth and privilege considers good for poor Muslims is that they become killers and suicide bombers. He assures them that his is the road to paradise though he never offers to go along for the ride.” Bush paused, got the scripted applause, and then did his silly smirk, so pleased with himself.

Bin Laden is a murderous bastard, but a coward he is not. He gained his following with the courage and perseverance he displayed when he organized resistance against the Soviet forces, which invaded and occupied Afghanistan in the 1980s. Wealth and privilege was his, but he lived among the suffering and sacrificed his own comfort for the cause.

At the time, Ronald Reagan’s CIA supported bin Laden, along with Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, then waging war with Iran. When it suited our global purposes, the United States formed a coalition with “evil Islamic radicalism.”

As least we know God is on our side these days. George W. Bush assured Palestinian leaders he got the OK from the deity to invade Iraq. In a major three-part series the BBC will air his week, Nabil Shaath, the Palestinian foreign minister, describes the first meeting he had with Bush.

He quotes President Bush as saying, “I’m driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, ‘George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan.’ And I did, and then God would tell me, ‘George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq.’ And I did. And now, again, I feel God’s words coming to me, ‘Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East.’ And by God, I’m gonna do it.”

White House spokesman Scott McClellan denied that Bush ever said that, which means he did. In fact, if God is talking to Bush, let’s hope he’s listening.

The single most important move we could make to defuse al-Qaeda terrorism is to pressure Israel to cooperate in the creation of a viable Palestinian state. Not an isolated Gaza and a little chunk of the West Bank, but a real nation in accord with UN resolutions. Instead of spending $5 billion a month in a futile attempt to pacify Iraq, use that money to build an economy for the long-suffering people of Palestine.

George W. Bush claims he still has political capital. As his empire crumbles, perhaps he should use that capital for something noble, practical and a tribute to freedom.

The creation of the state of Palestine, with real hope, could be one shining moment in George W. Bush’s otherwise failed presidency.
